Ever wanted to do a complete Automatic Transmission Service with a Fluid Flush and Fluid Change! Well now you can do it in 10 Minutes! This DIY is super easy really fast and ridiculously cheap. The reason we didn't change the filter is because the filter on this transmission is internal and you would have to take apart the transmission to get to it. There is a a filter for the shift solenoid that can be cleaned to improve shifting. There is a small black round filter for the transmission, its under the air box near the solenoid that could be changed if you want to be more thorough. If you're installing a new or rebuilt transmission into your vehicle, it's a good idea to flush the transmission cooler. When your old transmission failed, it probably sent a bunch of gunk right into your transmission cooler. Before you run your new transmission it's a very good idea to get all of that gunk out of there. It's a simple procedure that can save that shiny new transmission you just installed. In addition to that, if you have a Honda like I do, it's an even better idea to install a new in line filter into the system. This will ensure that your new transmission lasts a good long time. In this video we flush the transmission cooler and install a new filter into my 2001 Honda Odyssey. After all I've been through with this van lately, it's great piece of mind. It's solely a video on doing a Transmission Fluid Flush. In this video, we show you how to do a full fluid flush of the automatic transmission on your 3rd Gen 4runner without any special machines. But, this process would work for any vehicle with an automatic transmission which has the trans cooler in the radiator. **When you're done with the flush and you want to get the transmission up to operating temperature so you can check your fluid level, instead of taking it for a drive you can use this trick I learned. You can set the parking brake, put the transmission in drive, have your left foot on the service brake and your right foot on the accelerator pedal. Raise the rpms of the engine to around 1000-1500 and hold it there while you're watching your phone app that monitoring your trans fluid temp. When it gets to around 180 degrees, put the trans back in park and immediately check the fluid level. You should see it at the upper hot mark on the dipstick. If it's low, add some more and repeat this process until you get it to the upper hot mark. **PARTS** *Valvoline Max Life Full Synthetic ATF (Since making this video, I now use full synthetic ATF) You need approximately 12 quarts to do this job. *Auto Transmission Drain Plug Crush Washer #35178-30010 **HELPFUL TOOLS** *3/8" Transmission Cooler Hose for the Flush Procedure - You can pick this up a short section of this an any auto parts store. *Here's a couple links to the 18 quart bucket and 1 gallon bucket I bought off Amazon to do this job. The 18 quart bucket with the graduated quart marks really makes it easy to keep track of how much you've drained out and I highly recommend it. The gallon container makes it possible to buy 1 gallon containers of ATF and still be able to accurately measure what you're adding in each time.: *18 Quart Container *4 Quart Container *If you're interested in buying an OBDII reader that works with Android devices, here's what I got: *And, if you go the Bluetooth reader route, buy this as well. It allows you to turn off the power to your reader so you don't have to pull it out every time. In this video I will go over how the sealed transmission works, Also how to drain the fluid and add new toyota transmission fluid. Also I will go over the 3 ways to adjust the toyota sealed transmission fluid level. This applies to all Toyota models without a dipstick. If you own a 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 corolla with a CVT transmission it's the same procedure just make sure you use the correct genuine Toyota CVT FE fluid. This also applies to Toyota's new 8 speed transmission in many models including 2017-2020 highlander 2017-2020 Sienna 2018-2020 Camry 2019-2020 Rav4 and more. Notes on 8 speed transmission: - The drain plug that I showed in the picture in the video is gonna be a 10mm hex and the overflow tube will still be a 6mm hex socket. -The cooler bypass will be located between the transmission and the radiator, you have to remove the front driver's side splash sheild to access it (10mm screws and clips) Also this only applies to some 2017-2020 highlander and 2017-2020 sienna models. If your highlander or sienna doesn't have it then skip the cooler bypass part. Notes on some tundra and sequioa models. -Some of these models will have 2 drains on the transmission pan. one is going to be a drain plug and the other will be the overflow tube. so drain the one then tighten it then use the other plug to adjust the fluid. -The cooler bypass will be available on some of them located by the transmission on the passenger side. -The fill plug will be located on the driver's side of the transmission also a 24mm bolt. Notes on some Tacoma models. - Some Tacoma models will use the A\T OIL TEMP light instead of the D or Drive light. This procedure does NOT work on the following models: 2020-2021 Supra. Any toyota with a dipstick. All scion IA and Yaris IA and the new yaris hatchback. Scion FRS and Toyota 86. All hybrid models. Tools needed: -10mm socket for panel removal. -21mm socket for wheel removal. -6mm HEX socket. -10mm HEX socket (only for 8 speed transmission) -drain pan -a container with quart measurments -a fluid pump( one used in the video linked below) -Small jumper wire. -Temp gun if using this method (linked below) - 4 jack stands and jack if lifting the car off the ground. Parts needed -For CVT transmissions use Genuine CVT FE transmission fluid. It's sold in a 4L container. -For WS transmissions use genuine WS fluid. They are sold in 1 quart bottles. -2 washers (or 3) for the drain and fill plugs. You may have heard the Toyota Transmission is a "sealed unit" and you do not need to touch the transmission. If you are looking to have your transmission last 250k plus miles, changing the fluid is a must. The ATF is still breaking down and metal is still chipping away in the transmission. I prefer to do a drain and flush more often than replacing all the fluid so you do not shock the system with new oil. Will work for 3rd generation "gen" Tacomas. That is my 2 cents.
