Improvements to Civil 3D 2021.1 allow users to add additional profile band information for rail CANT or superelevation and design speed.
Users can add this information by updating the Profile View Properties under the Bands tab. Users can add CANT data to the profile band list then view the left & right rail as well as the centerline and equilibrium values. Users can choose the standard settings or create a new setting based on their project needs. Once the cant data is displayed, it can be easily updated with the new settings.
Civil 3D gives users the control over the display settings – here users can revise the vertical exaggeration, the line color, as well as the rail labels and the station limits. The data can be sorted and displayed to meet the project requirements. Labels can also be hardcoded to include names, dimensions, or notes.
Users can also add speed bands based on the station limits. The bands can be sorted and arranged as needed. This is particularly useful when creating track charts and detailed profile sheets.
This new feature helps to provide users with a more complete rail and profile design solution.

New inside of Civil 3D 2021.2 is the ability to bring in Raster Imagery from ArcGIS Online via the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS. In this example, I use an image that covers the entire state, but I only use a small section of the image. You have two new feature types to choose from inside the dialog, Imagery, and Surface.
You have the option of selecting a predefined resolution or you can simply select the source resolution. You can repeat this process if needed and have multiple images at different resolutions.
In addition to being able to bring in raster imagery from ArcGIS Online, you can also utilize terrain data from a raster layer in ArcGIS Online that will create a surface for you in Civil 3D.
You again have the option to select an image resolution or use the source resolution of the raster data. Once applied, a surface is created for you in Civil 3D.
Another new feature in Civil 3D 2021.2 is the ability to refresh existing layers from ArcGIS Online that are already being utilized inside of your Civil 3D Model. Refresh will allow us to quickly retrieve the latest information from ArcGIS Online.
So when a change is made to the data, in this example, a manhole was not in the right location, you can take advantage of the live link to the data to be sure that you have the latest information available to you in your model.
Inside of the Data Source Manager, you can select the data sources that you would like to refresh and the connector will fetch the latest information, and quickly update your model.

Recover missing Civil 3D workspace option in AutoCAD civil 3D
New features in Civil 3D 2021.1 provide users with greater control over feature lines and grading capabilities. When using corridors created with feature lines, users now have the option to grade those lines based on adjacent feature lines. Here, the baseline is draped on the existing surface. Using the Set Corridor Baseline Elevation by Reference, users can grade from a known feature, such as a building pad to the feature baseline. Users can define the grade and offset, and the corridor will automatically regenerate. Users can also add points at critical locations to the feature baseline. Using this simple workflow, users can quickly grade their entire site based on the key information.
Users can save time using the new Set Grade Across Feature Lines tool. When the user selects a feature line, multiple feature lines and points will highlight. Users set the beginning point and elevation and can trace along the path they want to regrade. The nodes will highlight as they trace the path. The existing grade will display and users then specify the new grade for these feature lines. This process can be repeated as needed to create the desired outcome.
When working with crossing feature lines in the same site, users can utilize the Insert Points at Crossing Locations tool. Users can specify PI or elevation point types. Using the Elevation editor, the points can be viewed in the complete list. The new points are identified with the inserted point icon. When the original feature line is selected, users can revise the elevation points, and both feature lines will update.
These new features help to give designers greater control and precision when working with feature lines.

A new extension for Civil 3D 2022 is Grading Optimization for Civil 3D. Grading Optimization uses new Grading objects provided to you in the Civil 3D tool palette.
In this example, we are controlling how the area in the selected zone will be graded, Setting the min slope at 2% and max slope at 5% in this area. We can quickly create zones for the building pad, sidewalks, ADA locations, and drainage. With the design intent in place, you can select optimize to launch Grading Optimization.
In the Grading Optimization Dialog, we have full access to the grading object parameters, and you can update them if you need to before selecting Optimize. Grading Optimization takes the parameters that you have specified and generates, very quickly, a grading solution. This grading solution will also be mindful of earthwork quantities.
The result of the optimization can be sent directly back to Civil 3D. Grading Optimization can also be implemented in the same way for a residential subdivision. With the necessary grading elements assigned, we can take a look at one, or many different grading scenarios more efficiently than with traditional methods, giving the engineer great flexibility in choosing the best, most cost-effective grading design of this residential subdivision.
Grading optimization can also be utilized for grading around bridges. With the placement of just a couple of zones representing key elements of the bridge, you can simply select Optimize and Grading Optimization will give you a grading solution for the bridge abutments. And again, the optimized result can be pulled directly into Civil 3D.
Grading Optimization gives the engineer the power to more efficiently grade their engineering projects.

Dynamo for Civil 3D can help users in a number of ways. Users can save time in plan productions by creating point labels for corridors and feature lines. Users can also create Keys or Legends based on the information contained in their drawings.
Dynamo can help to automate routine and repetitive tasks like creating access ramps for site development or roadway corridors. Users can streamline the creation of cogo point groups and quickly & easily add descriptions. Users can also revise pipe networks or connection details using input parameters that can be utilized on multiple projects.
Dynamo can extremely useful in making design decisions. Users can quickly process complex tasks and evaluate the results. The scripts can be re-processed over and over to create the desired optimized solution. Objects created by Dynamo will be placed with precision-based around drawing elements such as corridors, surfaces, or features lines.
Design coordination can be simplified with Dynamo. Users can utilize external files from other civil disciplines and import the data into a complete model. Users can add property set data to the design objects according to BIM requirements. Users can also extract property set data to create reports or spreadsheets.
Scripts can be set up to read surface data and quickly create subsurface or solid layers such as base and subbase materials. Users can then quickly determine volumes and quantities.
Using these tools, users can create clearance envelopes based on vehicle parameters and identify conflict areas and clearance requirements.

You can create several paragraphs of text as a single multiline text (mtext) object. With the built-in editor, you can format the text appearance, columns, and boundaries.
After you specify the point for the opposite corner when the ribbon is active, the Text Editor ribbon contextual tab displays. If the ribbon is not active, the in-place text editor is displayed.
If you specify one of the other options, or if you enter -mtext at the Command prompt, MTEXT bypasses the In-Place Text editor and displays additional Command prompts.

As you click with the pointing device to specify one corner followed by the diagonal corner, a rectangle is displayed to show the location and size of the multiline text object. Arrows within the rectangle indicate the direction of the paragraph's text flow.

Specifies the text height to use for multiline text characters.

Paper text height. This prompt is displayed only if the current text style is annotative.
The default height, if nonzero, is the height of the current style; otherwise, it is the height stored in the TEXTSIZE system variable. Character height is calculated in drawing units. Changing the height updates the value stored in TEXTSIZE.
Justify
Determines both text justification and text flow, for new or selected text, in relation to the text boundary. The current justification is applied to new text. The text is justified within the specified rectangle based on the justification setting and one of nine justification points on the rectangle. The justification point is based on the first point used to specify the rectangle. Text is center-, left-, or right-justified with respect to the left and right text boundaries. Spaces entered at the end of a line are included as part of the text and affect the justification of the line. Text flow controls whether text is aligned from the middle, the top, or the bottom of the paragraph with respect to the top and bottom text boundaries.

Autodesk Project Explorer for Civil 3D is an environment that allows a you to analyze Civil Objects in the model. Here we will focus through the lens of working with Pipe Networks with Project Explorer.
When you need to create a new pipe network in your model, you can access to the design features for Pipe Networks directly from inside of the project explorer dialog. This allows you to access what you need from one location. Which makes it convenient and helps to streamline the design process.
Once you have generated the pipe network, You can customize the grid view by selecting the start structure and end structure that you would like to see. Giving you the flexibility to focus on the design of just a portion of the network or the entire network.
You can quickly make edits to the Pipe Network in Project Explorer. One of the tools in the Edit pipe run dialog, allows you to set a constant pipe slope throughout the network, or you can quickly set up design by elevation change if you prefer.
A user also has the ability to quickly modify specific settings for the pipe network. In this example, all of the structures need to have the reference alignment set to the sewer line to reflect the correct stationing. You can select one or all of the affected structures and change this setting all at once. From one location.
One of the more powerful features in Project Explorer is the ability to create an AutoCAD table that represents the design data for pipe networks. This table can be set up to be a static table or dynamic, so when a change is made to the design, the table will update automatically.
In this example, we will create a table for all of the pipes in my pipe network. You have the option to create a table with all of the information available for the pipes, or you can load a template that only has the information that you want to see. This template could be used to help with standardization.
You have the option to create a table in paper space or model space. For this example, we will place it in model space.
We selected the dynamic option when we created this table, so any change to the design, and the table will update. Here, we will quickly swap the part size for all of our pipes to 10” and quickly see the update.
You can also take advantage of the robust reporting tools inside of Project Explorer. Here you can see the object set for the table that was generated. We would like to also have an HTML report of the same data. You can copy this Object Set and simply change the Action set to HTML. Changes to the layout could be made if needed. Once the Action has been updated you can simply Run the Selected action and the HTML report will be generated.
The reports that are generated in Project Explorer can also be made static or dynamic in nature. In this instance, I would like to swap pipe sizes again for the pipes in my pipe network. After the change has been made, simply select and run the reporting action again and the report will update.
At any point of design or after the project is finished, you might be asked to generate a drawing that contains all of the project data, but in a 2D format. This task can quickly be achieved in Project Explorer. After creating a new Object Set, you can add any or all of the model data to that object set. Then simply select the newly populated Object set and Run the Selected Action. This will generate a 2d model of the data in one drawing for you.

Autodesk Project Explorer for Civil 3D is an environment that allows a user to analyze Civil Objects in the model such as Alignments, Corridors, and Gravity Pipe Networks.
The customizable User Interface provides the flexibility to simultaneously view civil objects both graphically and in a data grid. Additional user preferences provide options to change settings like the color of different entities to changing the vertical scale of a profile, all in one dialog.
The layout of how the design data is viewed can also be customized for a pleasing user experience.
Reviewing the design of a complex corridor can take time, but Project Explorer makes this more efficient because the user has the ability to review the entire model in one location. Being able to compare the corridor to different surfaces helps flush out problems with the design. Not only can you review, but the user can also make changes when needed.
Accessing Civil 3D Design tools like pipe network layout can be done directly inside of Project Explorer. Additional tools are available in project explorer such as setting a constant pipe slope throughout a network to help streamline the design process.
Project Explorer gives the user the ability to create custom AutoCAD tables that can be created static or dynamic.
The user can customize the content of the tables and save a template file for use on future projects.
Because this table was set to dynamic, when the user changes the design, here swapping some or all of the pipes to a different size in this instance, the table updates automatically. The table will stay current to the design, thereby reducing costly errors
The user can also take advantage of the robust reporting functionality in Project Explorer. You can quickly create custom reports in several different formats, thereby helping to streamline the construction documentation process.
