As You probably can hear neither Bose Companion 2 III nor Bose Companion 20 can be called neutral or natural sounding speaker. Both present the sound that is highly maninpulated to appear big and spacious by boosting the midbass and pushing midrange upfront. I have rather unfavourable opinion on both of them, but if I was asked to choose between them than I would say to go with the cheaper one. Honestly I can not stand listening to Bose Companion 20 more than few minutes without getting angry, while Bose Companion 2 is more tolerable to my ears, especially considering the pirce tag. Edifier R1280T is less than half of the price of Bose, yet it sounds more natural and realistic across the range (even when Edifier is not the most neutral and natural by itself). Edifier also can play MUCH louder while staying composed when Bose falls apart very fast and starts to sound unpleasant at moderate levels. Bose has sound that is nice at brief listen when You listen to them in isolation, but as soon as You start to compare the sound to other offerings on the market it all falls apart. Not recommended. Discover the difference between BOSE Companion 20 and 50 computer speakers. While the Companion 20 is very compact it may lack a little low end in some use scenarios. Overall I got excellent results from this pair of speakers which I bought first in 2012 while studying overseas. After retiring home to Europe, I did move into a bigger room, where my desk is free-standing in the room as opposed to put up against a wall. I think smaller rooms, or putting the Companion 20 near the wall yielded the best results. But even in my new place, the speakers are very nice to use, the sound is very pleasant. Testing the new Companion 50 I found that they have considerably more low end due to the big Acoustimass module. Something bigger rooms may benefit from. Subjectively, I found the sound of the bigger Companion 50 appeared to me as more processed, while the Companion 20 sounded somewhat different, maybe more neutral and centered in the mids. In contrast, the bigger 50 had more emphasis on the highs and the lows. If you have a chance to listen before purchasing at a store, or maybe if a friend or relative owns a pair that would give you the best impression. One thing I did not like about the 50 is the white noise/static, my old 20 are completely quite, so why do the 50 make this wired hissing sound, I am clueless. For some people, it may be no issue at all, but since I am used to the smaller Companion 20 being quiet when I work on the computer, I found that to be irritating. More review : Although Bose don't recommend it I tried connecting these speakers to my TV headphone output to improve the sound from my TV. Wow! What a difference! The sound is clear and crisp with superb bass depth from such compact speakers. They were simple to set up - I just needed to adjust the headphone volume output on my TV, and I had a great sounding system without the complications of multi speaker TV systems. They come at a great price too. I have other Bose items and they never disappoint!

Audioengine on amazon US: Audioengine on amazon DE: Bose on amazon US: Bose on amazon DE: Audioengine A2+ and Bose Companion 20, all though both compact and rather expensive, are polar opposites in therms of sound quality. Bose is artifically bassy and very unnatural sounding while Audioengine is rather light on its feet compared with Bose but it is also so much more clearer and natural sounding everywhere else in the spectrum. You should also be know that in my opinion is R1700BT is not the most neutral or natural sounding speaker. Well, when You put it up against Bose Companion 20, R1700BT sounds like high quality studio monitor, neutral and focused, in comparison to butchered, highly manipulated and EQ-ed sound of Bose. I already stated in previous comparisons that I dislike the sound of Companion 20, and this video is good example why.
