The adapter worked out of the box on macOS, by default file transfer speeds from a 4 bay RAID0 IronWolf setup, was equivalent to the direct Thunderbolt 3 connection. Initially benchmarking applications ran at a slower speed of up to 600MB/s, however after editing the Network settings in System Preferences to support MTU jump frames, it started hitting over 1150MB/s. The device features a small fan which can be too noisy for quieter environments, however this noise can be mitigated by using a 2m thunderbolt 3 connection and pointing the fan outwards. I did test using the shorter provided TB3 cable and a longer 2M TB3 cable and there was no difference in performance. Overall, if you need a longer connection than a TB3 cable can provide, then this adapter can get you equivalent speeds at a much further range. For this kind of file access on your NAS, you need to consider 10Gbe and Thunderbolt NAS Why Consider Thunderbolt NAS and 10Gbe NAS Both Thunderbolt NAS and 10Gbe (10-gigabit ethernet) are the best solutions for those that want to access and edit files on the NAS fluidly, whilst still maintaining a network-wide means of access and distribution. Both can be DIRECTLY connected from a PC or Mac to a NAS and most importantly of all, both 10GBe and Thunderbolt are suitable means to edit dense RAW photos, heavy 4K Media and multiple 1080p files. This is further bolstered by the support of Non-Linear Editing (NLE) with programs like Final Cut Pro and Premier mean that when you are editing a file on the NAS, you are actually using a clone/copied version which means that the original file is not touched/altered in the refinement process of editing your work. Alongside this, many solutions at the desktop level have arrived with PCIe upgradability, allowing users to upgrade the 1GbE ports to something more substantial. However, last year QNAP released a new kind of network interface upgrade for NAS and PC, known as the QNA-UC5G1T USB to 5GbE adapter. Many (myself included) were looking forward to testing this out on a Synology NAS system, in order to allow even modest 2 and 4-Bay Diskstation systems to upgrade from 1Gbe-to-5Gbe just with a USB port. However, the Synology NAS system does not officially support the QNAP QNA-UC5G1T adapter. However, a smart user by the name of ‘bb-qq’ on github last year successfully created an unofficial Synology app/plugin for the Diskstation App Center that will install the necessary Aquantia driver to use this QNAP adapter on your Synology NAS. Today I want to show you how to add this adapter to your NAS and upgrade your Synology to 5Gbe (or more with more adapters and USB ports) without the need of a PCIe upgrade slot. Let’s go! We Discuss the 2019 Release 10Gbe and NVMe Combo Card from QNAP - It desperately needs an update to PCIe Gen3 or Gen4. One nice feature we saw was the ability to use this card in everything from QNAP NAS with QTier to a ASUS Threadripper 3960X workstation to a Supermicro 1U server, to a HPE MicroServer. QNAP did a great job making this a general-purpose architecture. Performance-wise, this solution offers a unique capability of adding network and storage to a single card. Storage performance can be labeled as NVMe, but is far from the performance we see in native PCIe 3.0 x4 slots. As the card is loaded, that performance drops even more. It seems to offer more than simply checking boxes that a NAS can support NVMe and 10Gbase-T but it is not the same as a PCIe Gen3 solution. At under $250 the card is not exactly inexpensive. Purchasing a 10Gbae-T adapter plus a dual M.2 PCIe card (without a switch) can be done for a little over half of that amount. По каким либо причинам горит красный крестик на сетевом подключении, хотя кабель воткнут. Стоит проверить порт. если сетевая отвечает, то скорей всего проблема на стороне провайдера. Аналогичная ситуация с wan портом на роутере. проверяем физическое состояние порта.
