The Dell PowerEdge T430 is an enterprise 5U tower server / workstation and packs a powerful punch. This server can be used as a rackmount or tower. In our video, we will go over the proper techniques for installing memory upgrades as well as how to properly configure the RAM. To start, the T430 is part of Dell’s 13th Generation. This is the next generation from the Dell PowerEdge T420 workstation. Dell T430’s operate on dual Intel E5-2600 V3 or V4 series processors, which is an LGA2011-3 CPU socket. These are the same processors found in T630, R630 and R730 servers. There are 24 DIMM slots powered by DDR4 memory modules. The T430 is part of the first generation of Dell DDR4 based workstations. Dell PowerEdge T430 towers will accept two types of memory: ECC Registered (RDIMM) and Load Reduced (LRDIMM). Both ECC Reg and Load Reduced DDR4 will max out at the same speed and capacity for Dell PowerEdge T430 servers. The max configuration is 384GB via (12 x 32GB) DDR4 PC4-19200T-R 2400MHz ECC Registered Server Memory. The max configuration is also 384GB via (12 x 32GB) DDR4 PC4-19200T-R 2400MHz Load Reduced Server Memory. Please note you can install 2666 speed but they will clock down to 2400. CPU1 controls 8 DIMMs slots and CPU2 controls 4 DIMMs slots. There are 4 Memory Channels on CPU1 and 4 memory channels on CPU2. CPU1 has 2 DIMM slots per Memory Channel and CPU2 has 1 DIMM slot per memory channel. Dell has conveniently labeled and color coded each DIMM slot on the motherboard. Follow Cloud Ninjas helpful guide to ensure you properly install your memory upgrades. We recommend as best practices to always install at the start of each memory channel. The memory channels will start with white in the first slot and black in the second slot. The proper configuration for 2 CPUs would be 4, 8, or 12 DIMMs to maintain a consistent load balance across all your memory channels. In our video, we will dive into the memory in more depth as well as actually install memory modules inside our very own PowerEdge T430 workstation. This server is highly-configurable and can be used as a multipurpose server. The Dell PowerEdge T430 is the next gen to the T420, and offers a wide variety of solutions. The T430 utilizes DDR4 memory, 2 PCI express expansion slots, 12 DIMM slots and powered by dual Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 Processors. There was another video where I picked up a free DELL 9010, 970, and this server that were about to be recycled. Unfortunately, that one got cut short. This is a closer look at the Poweredge T430 which worked and just needed a good cleaning. It was free and I sold it for $100 without the hard drives. I sold the hard drives on ebay for $80.

Specs of this build: Dual Xeon E5-2540 eight core 192GB PC3L-12800R (12x 16GB DDR3) Dell Perc H710 1GB RAID Controller 8x 300GB 10K RPM SAS Drives ( Raid 50) iDrac 7 enterprise Intel i350 quad port NIC EVGA NVIDIA 1070 8GB NEC USB 3.0 card Dual 1100W power supplies I ran into some issues on the way, but I got it going. Esxi is my hypervisor I am running with multiple Windows 10 VMs and Truenas storage. This would make for a fun homelab setup that would allow you to run your PC in the same box as your virtual machines. Check out @WaybackTECH and their video for a similar project with a different approach:
