Dell PowerEdge R340 - In this video, we will discuss the compatible RAM and CPU for the R340 server as well as physically install the modules. We will go over some general tips and tricks to help make your install successful. Sit back and enjoy. For starters, the R340 is part of Dell's 14th Generation of servers. It has 1 CPU socket, which is an LGA1151 socket. There are a number of different processor options. What we see as the most prevalent are the Intel Xeon E-2100 and E-2200 series CPUs. You can also utilze Intel Pentium, Celeron or i3 series. Regarding the memory, the R340 has 4 DIMM slots running on DDR4 architecture. Speeds include 2133 MT/s, 2400 MT/s or 2666 MT/s. Sizes include 4GB 8GB 16GB. Meaning the max configuration for the Dell PowerEdge R340 is 64GB via (4 x 16GB) 2666 MT/s ECC Unbuffered Server Memory. Which brings us to the next important point. You can only use 1 type of memory for the R340: ECC Unbuffered, also known as a Server UDIMM. No you cannot use ECC Registered (RDIMM). No you cannot use Load Reduced (LRDIMM). Only ECC Unbuffered. As discussed, there are 4 DIMM slots. There are 2 memory channels and each memory channel has 2 DIMMs. Dell has labeled and color coded the channels to make it easy to identify. The start of each change is white. The second DIMM in the channel is black. If you are using 2 DIMMs total, then you should insert them in the 2 white DIMM slots. PowerEdge T40 продолжает серию недорогих, компактных серверов начального уровня компании Dell. Dell PowerEdge R910 Server Memory "How To Guide" for proper RAM configuration and installation. In this video, we will provide a general overview on the R910 server and some best practices for correctly installing your memory modules. We will show a helpful review on all the different RAM options including speeds, sizes and type of memory supported. For starters, the Dell PowerEdge R910 has 64 DIMM slots. Yes you heard that right. 64 DIMMs slots in this beast. This is the next gen server following the R900 and the R910 is the 4U older brother to the R710. There are several options regarding size or capacity of the module including 2GB 4GB 8GB 16GB or 32GB DDR3 server memory. We get asked a lot if there are 64GB DIMMs for the R910... unfortunately there are no 64GB DDR3 memory supported by the R910. Your choices for speed include 1066MHz, 1333MHz or 1600MHz. The 1600MHz will clock down. There is only one option regarding type of memory. ECC Registered (RDIMMs). One question we tend to hear. Will Load Reduced Memory work with my Dell R910 server? Unfortunately, Load Reduced Memory (LRDIMMs) and ECC Unbuffered (Server UDIMMs) are not compatible with the Dell PowerEdge R910, so you can only utilize ECC Registered. There are 8 Memory Risers inside. Each riser has 8 DIMM slots, which gets you to the 64 DIMMs total. There are 4 Memory Channels per riser, which means 2 DIMM slots per memory channel. This is good news for quad rank modules as we can avoid the Rank Rule Issue. Max configuration is 2TB via (64 x 32GB) DDR3 1600MHz ECC Registered Server Memory. Dell just keeps doing it. Yet another high-performing 4U enterprise server. The Dell PowerEdge R910 has four LGA1567 processor sockets running on Intel 7500 or E7-4800 series CPUs. Each Intel processor controls 2 memory risers which equates to 16 DIMM slots. Dell PowerEdge 1950 server memory guide for proper configuration and installation. The 1950 is a 1U server operating on dual Intel 5100, 5200, 5300 or 5400 series processors. Part of Dell’s 9th Generation, this server comes equipped with 8 DIMM slots utilizing DDR2 memory. This is the 1U younger brother to the 2950 which supports the same RAM and CPUs. You can only use one type of memory for the Dell PowerEdge 1950 server. The only option is Fully buffered, FBIMMs. ECC Registered (RDIMM) memory modules simply will NOT work with the Dell PowerEdge 1950 server. Do not purchase DIMMs for 2970 and think you can install in 1950. They just are not compatible and will not work. These are two separate styles of memory altogether. The max memory configuration for your Dell 1950 server depends on the generation of 1950 you have. You can locate your generation on the rackmount ear. There will be roman numerals. I = Gen 1. Dell PowerEdge R810 server memory upgrade tips and how to properly install modules and configure your system. In this video, we will provide a general "How To" guide and solve the mystery of what really is the max config for the PowerEdge R810. Part of the 11th Generation from Dell, the PowerEdge R810 is a 2U server with four processor sockets. This is it's most unique feature. The R810 is powered by Intel Xeon E7-4800 and E7-8800, or 6500 and 7500 series processors, which are LGA1567 sockets. Inside you will find 32 memory slots supporting DDR3 memory modules. You can utilize 1GB 2GB 4GB 8GB 16GB or up to 32GB Memory Modules. Please note. Only R810 Gen 2 (ii) servers will support 32GBs and you must use low voltage DIMMs paired with E7 processors. Speed options are 1066MHz or 1333MHz. This system is known to clock down to 1066MHz. There is only 1 type of RAM supported by Dell's R810: ECC Registered, also known as RDIMM. Load Reduced, also known as LRDIMM, is not supported by the R810. ECC Unbuffered DIMMs are also not supported. Only RDIMMs. The total maximum configuration will top out a 1TB of RAM via (32 x 32GB) DDR3 PC3L-10600R 1333MHz ECC Reg Server Memory. Please keep in mind you must have a Dell PowerEdge R810 Gen 2 servers for 32GBs modules to work. This is a common issue. If you do have the R810 Gen 1, then you can max out at 512GB via 32 x 16GB. We hear a lot of important questions regarding the R810 so we thought it would be helpful to share some answers to common questions and concerns. How can I tell if my Dell PowerEdge R810 is Gen 1 or Gen 2? This is a great question. You can find this information on your Service Tag. Pull out the service tag. If you see what looks like two roman numeral... something like this... II .... then you have the Gen 2. If you do not see the " II " then you have the R810 gen 1. Why can't we use LRDIMMs with the Dell R810? Unfortunately the entire Dell 11th Generation of servers does not support load reduced modules, including the R810. Is the Rank Rule an issue with the R810? Luckily, it is not an issue. The R810 has 2 DIMMs per memory channel so quad rank DIMMs are supported and are not effected by the Rank Rule. Can we use 64GB DDR3 ECC Registered memory modules with the PowerEdge R810? Unfortunately, 64GB DDR3 ECC Reg was never invented and only LRDIMMs support 64GB DIMMs in DDR3 world. Dell PowerEdge T410 - In this video we will provide a general overview of the system and dig in deeper on the types of RAM supported as well as the max configuration. We will show some tips and tricks for installing the RAM and how to open and access the various components inside. Sit back, relax and enjoy! The Dell PowerEdge T410 is classed with Intel Xeon® technology and is designed for data centric environments. The T410 is upgradable up to six hard drives for scalable internal storage, which means that it can easily handle a multitude of file storage. The T410 boasts multi-core maximums within its Intel Xeon 5500 and 5600 processor series. The T410’s optimized Intel Turbo Boost technology allows the processor to automatically run each processor core beyond marked frequency. In the way of network connectivity, the T410 has five PCIe slots for PERC controllers, Audio, DDPE, 10G NIC, 1G NIC capabilities, iDRAC for remote management and trusted platform module (TPM) for added configuration data security. For maximum speed and bandwidth, the T410 can handle up to 256GB of memory. Speeds include 1066, 1333, 1600 or 1866 MT/s. Do note that 1600 and 1866 will clock down to 1333. The T410 has 8 DIMM slots in a dual processor configuration and accepts 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB memory modules. There are 2 types of memory for the Dell T410 which include DDR3 ECC Registered (RDIMMs) and ECC Unbuffered (server UDIMMs) memory modules. ECC Reg is what we recommend. You can max out at 256GB of ECC Reg at 256GB via 8 x 32GB 1600MHz ECC Registered Server Memory. However, with ECC Unbuffered, you can only top out at 32GB via 8 x 4GB. Hence, you can see why we recommend ECC Reg over ECC Unbuffered. Not only are they a lower cost per GB, ECC Reg also offers higher scalability. That's what I call a "winner winner chicken dinner." Added security features in the T410 include advanced reliability, availability, serviceability (RAS) management features for increased performance and decreased data loss in the event of crashes caused by system errors. The T410 is compatible with Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Citrix software which makes it the perfect server for any medium to large-scale business environment. We review our favorite server, the Dell PowerEdge R640. The Dual socket motherboard can accommodate Intel Silver, Gold, or Platinum processors with up to 28 cores each (with current firmware). With 24 DIMM slots it can, with a dual-processor configuration, have a maximum of 12TB of RAM. The chassis provides dual power supplies and a range of Quad 3.5" drives, 8 or 10 2.5" drives. The drives can be traditional SATA or SAS mechanical drives or SSDs. The configuration can also accommodate M.2 NVMe drives. A daughtercard provides space for a Quad network interface card (NIC), such as an Intel or Broadcom with 10Gbe copper or fiber connectivity. Additional configurations are available through add-on cards such as the fiber Intel card seen in this video. So my daughter found the new server I bought and got Mom to unbox it. Mom unboxes server on the dining room table and they tell us what they see and what they think about this Dell PowerEdge R330 server. Overall she likes it as I run some of our home automation and security from it. The server is a Dell PowerEdge R330 and was mis-listed on eBay a bit and turns out had 4 X the drives in it and double the RAM. It is a OEM re-badge of the Dell R330 but it takes regular Dell server firmware, lifecycle controller, and uefi mode updates right from . It's running a Intel Xeon E3-1220 V6 CPU. I purchased in 2020 with my own money for $400 off of eBay as an open box that turns out it was "damaged" stock from a truck roll over that the OEM told me it shouldn't even exist and that they can't warranty or support it as it was already written off as a loss. Dell on the other hand still shows I have a warranty until 2024 which I've yet to call and double verify but if that still holds I found the best deal around on a new server for my home lab.
