In the days of film cameras, UV filters where quite useful because film is very susceptible to ultraviolet light, and these filters would cut down on the atmospheric haze that would result from excessive UV light in settings like sunny days on the beach or at high altitude where the air is thinner. However, modern digital camera sensors are rather insensitive to UV light because they have their own block and filters built in the protect from everything from Infrared to Ultraviolet light. So then getting UV filters for digital cameras doesn't make much sense - at least not for their original purpose. UV filters can protect your lens from getting damaged from dirt or scratches because it provides an extra layer of protection over your front lens glass. But beware of buying cheap filters because they can degrade your image quality making your footage look soft. So, if you do get a UV filter for your lens, be sure to invest in a good one so that you can protect your image sharpness as well as your camera lens!
