Transcend JetDrive Lite 330 128 GB Prices & Availability: More info about the Jetdrive Lite 330 Models available at The JetDrive Lite 330 is in my opinion the most elegant storage solution for the macbook pro / Macbook Air line up, at least that i have tried so far. Its great if we need more available space for documents, photos, videos and so on, or if we want a local drive for Time machine backups or even for our Photos Library without sacrificing our internal SSD. Off course it can be used in any other way but these are the things that i see that can be more useful. About with half the size of a regular SD Card, just fits great on the Macbook pro. The way that i see that its more useful is using it as a permanent solution and if we need to use a SD card then just use a USB SD Card reader and there we go! Things i did like the most: - Most Elegant Storage solution for the Macbook Pro / Macbook Air - Great Speeds for the type of storage - Safe to use on the go without worrying to remove the SD card - Price tag is worth for what we get Things i did like the less: - I loved it!!! Macbook Air 13" version - (affiliate link) Macbook Pro Retina 15" version - (affiliate link) Macbook Pro Retina 13" version - (affiliate link) The Transcend Jet Drive Lite is a great product especially for Macbook Air owners who are always tight on space. It's probably the least expensive way to double or almost triple your available space for under $100 provided you don't need to use the SD card slot on your Mac. The card is essentially a cut down SD card that snaps in securely and sits flush with the side of your Macbook Pro or Macbook Air (be sure to pick the version specific to your Mac model). The card stays firmly in place and requires a bit of effort to remove - I found sliding a finger nail underneath the sides is enough to pry it loose. I worry that over time the side of the card might weaken but so far I've removed the card at least a dozen times with no apparent signs of anything snapping off. One thing to note is that the Transcend Jet Drive Lite is far from a SSD replacement. In fact the write speeds are all over the place, with sequential writes as low as 12 megabytes per second and occasionally as high as 50. Generally in my testing with the Blackmagic disk benchmark the writes were under 20 megabytes per second. Reads, however, were much better and more consistent running anywhere from 60 to 87 megabytes per second. Oddly the Transcend Jet Drive Lite doesn't come formatted for the Mac's native file system. It's formatted with the more universal ExFAT system that's compatible with most computing platforms. I strongly suggest converting it to the Mac HFS+ Journaled format through disk utility so that Time Machine will include the Transcend card with its regular backups. I do suggest checking your time machine volume from time to time to ensure that the drive is properly backed up. Overall this is a nice product that will safely add a significant amount of storage to a Macbook Pro Retina or Air. I just wish the write speeds were more consistent. TheMiniDrive is very similar to a similar product from Nifty, although TheMiniDrive creators say their product was shipping prior to the Nifty Kickstarter. Both units sit flush to the side of the Macbook and require a small wire (included) to remove once installed. Tardisk 256GB Prices & Availability: US: WW: And here we are with another elegant storage solution for the macbook pro 13" but with the Tardisk we actually can expand our internal storage and that has been a great experience. In terms of speeds when using the Tardisk in Expanded / Pear mode i don't feel any difference in real world performance compared with using the pure ssd so the read / write buffer on the ssd makes the SD to work similar to a fusion drive. Interesting piece of tech here allowing those that need to expand the internal storage. My advise is if you are looking to purchase a new MacBook Pro than i would suggest that you configure with as much internal storage you need. Transcend StoreJet 500 Thunderbolt SSD Prices & Availability: US: EU: The Transcend StoreJet 500 SSD Thunderbolt / USB 3.0 Drive has a great built quality to say the least. We have the choice to connect to this external SSD via USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt. On Speed Tests i was expecting that the Thunderbolt connection would be faster that the USB 3.0 but unfortunately its not the case. Nothing really Major but non the less wasnt expecting it. Comes with 2 softwares included. 1 to Manage Backups and 1 to recover files which can be very handy. Its capable of Trim support and on my opinion one of the great advantages of this drive is that we can use it as a external boot drive for OSX or as a External Boot Drive for Windows 8 or Windows 10.
