TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet 6100 Ink Cartridge Problem: --- If you have installed a refilled or aftermarket HP 932 or 933 ink cartridge into your HP OfficeJet 6100 Printer (#HP6100) and observe the printer error message “ Ink #Cartridges #Depleted " or " Depleted #Ink #Cartridge ", this is typically caused by one, or more, of the ink #cartridges not having enough ink inside. In most cases one of the cartridges is #empty but the cartridge’s electronic smart chip is telling the #HP #OfficeJet 6100 #printer it has a full or partially full ink load. Note: You may also observe the printer alert: “There is a problem with the ink system” or “ #Ink #System #Failure with this same error condition. The respective #ink #system #failure #error or #printer #shutdown #condition is generated due to air being ingested into the printer’s internal PRINTHEAD assembly and the presence of ink is not being #detected via #sensors inside the ink cartridge. Thus as a #safety precaution to protect the printer, the printer is shutdown to avoid burning out hundreds of small electronic #thermal ink #firing #nozzles inside the #HP #PRINTHEAD assembly. Remove all four #HP932 and #HP933 (or #HP932XL, #HP933XL) #ink #cartridges and weigh them with a scale to help determine which cartridge has an inadequate amount of ink inside (i.e. compare like cartridges against each other). TIP: Laser vs HP Instant Ink: --- For #HP6100 printer errors #Depleted, #Missing or #Damaged which are displayed after installing a #HP932 or #HP933 standard ink cartridge (or HP 932XL, 933XL high capacity ink cartridge) then it is possible that the #HP #OfficeJet 6100 printer's internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin (or several pins). When the #HP cartridge is installed these pins make contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal PRINTHEAD contact pins for visible damage. Each pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced. TIP: Laser vs HP Instant Ink: --- For #HP6100 printer #ink error such as #Depleted, #Missing or #Damaged which are displayed after installing a #HP932 or #HP933 standard ink cartridge (or HP 932XL, 933XL high capacity ink cartridge) then it is possible that the #HP #OfficeJet 6100 (#N611a) printer's internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin (or several pins). When the #HP cartridge is installed these pins make contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal PRINTHEAD contact pins for visible damage. Each pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced. Other #printer #error messages which could signify a PRINTHEAD #problem include “Ink Cartridge #Failure”, “Cartridge Damaged”, “Printhead Failure” or “The following cartridges are #not #intended for use in this Printer”. Thus as a #safety precaution to protect the printer, the printer is shutdown to avoid burning out hundreds of small electronic #thermal ink #firing #nozzles inside the PRINTHEAD assembly. Remove all four #HP932 #HP933 (or #HP932XL / #HP933XL) #ink #cartridges and weigh them with a scale to help determine which cartridge has an inadequate amount of ink inside. The lightest ink cartridge, in comparison to other available full cartridges, will usually reveal the likely culprit.
