Is the Acustica audio magenta the best plugin ever made? If you ask me I haven't found one yet that competes. I have given acustica audio a hard rap over the Jade, gold, pink & purple as they didn't better the sound enough for me alongside other emulations from slate digital, plugin alliance, brainworx, Lindell etc. However this emulation of the manley massive passive is probably the best plugin I have ever tested. It's preamp and compressor options alone give it enough tonal options and the EQ in this is just sublime with tons of analog saturation and character. Don't believe me.. 'REAL' FAIRCHILD (MIX ANALOG) vs PLUGINS | Acustica Audio Ultramarine 4 vs Universal Audio Fairchild This week on mixing wednesdays I have an even bigger analog vs digital plugins shootout to top last weeks real pultec eqp1a vs plugin shootout video as I have managed to get my virtual hands on more analog hardware, this time via analog gear online streaming website MIX ANALOG. This analog streaming platform boasts their very own distopik fairchild 670 vari mu tube compressor which was made with original fairchild parts as well as genuine replacement parts via vintage king. I have created similar fairchild compressor plugin shootouts with klanghelm MJUC, overloud, waves puigchild and stuff but never a real deal fairchild! The acustica ultramarine 4 has the added benefit of the shmod which helps control transients more and also includes look ahead in lower settings which I actually used in the vocals. The UAD fairchild plugin has a sidechain filter to control low end compression (as does acustica audio plugins) as well as tone functions to add more bottom or high end. It would have been great to have a genuine tube fairchild compressor from abbey road but for now .. this is the best i can source for all of you audio geeks and inquisitive audio engineers. ANALOG HARDWARE VS PLUGINS || Acustica Audio Magenta 5 vs MANLEY VARI-MU COMPRESSOR || PART 2 || check out the real deal here 2 weeks ago I released my access analog variable mu vs audio plugin shootout (analog vs digital) and whilst I thought the acustica magenta had nailed it in the plugin demo, a fellow audio engineer who owns the manley hardware decided to do their own test on an overall mix. I noticed that the SHMOD (which changes the attack envelope) wasnt being pushed and the high pass filter wasnt utilised so I have done a comparison showing how important these factors are when using acustica audio plugins to their full potential. Audio comparisons with the music production software will be on bass, vocals and a drum buss. Nothing fancy, audio engineering basics covered so you dont need to attend audio engineering school, music production course or audio engineering 101 or anything like that.. keeping it haha. As these sales don't come along often I thought it would be a good idea to set up an acustica audio amber 3 review / plugin shootout on vocals & acoustic guitar. On vocals I am focusing exclusively on the top end as the Avalon hardware is renowned for its sweet high frequencies. The plugin comparison on vocals will be against the Maag eq4 air band (plugin alliance mega bundle.. also check out the plugin alliance review) and the acustica audio magenta 5 (Manley massive passive) as it has 35k possibilities. On acoustic guitar I will be comparing that to my current staple which is the acustica coffee. The compressor and eq will be utilised for this shootout and setting will be on screen. For beginners, this can hopefully also act as a pro tools mixing tutorial on how to use music production software. I personally didnt feel that there was enough in the audient id14 mk1 vs mk2 audio interface comparison video to make me fork out more cash on an audient upgrade. However the id44 boasts an extra 2 mic/line pres, an extra set of line outs, an extra set of headphone outs, adat in and out, work clock out as well as an insert send and return for printing analog hardware. There are also a ton of added features not included in either id14 audio interfaces. TUBE TECH plugin shootout || SOFTUBE vs ACUSTICA AUDIO TITANIUM 3 This week we are looking into 2 special pieces of hardware from the late 80's that came out from Danish manufacturers Tube Tech ; tube tech cl1b all tube opto compressor and the Tube Tech PE1C pultec clone. Unfortunately I dont own the hardware but there is a great video from Reid Stefan where he has a tube tech cl1b plugin vs hardware shootout. (see below) However, as you will already know, I specialise solely in audio plugins and love me an ole plugin comparison. So in this weeks music studio vlog I have the softube tube tech emulations and acustica audio titanium 3. Also looking at bass so will be shooting out the tube tech plugins vs the acustica audio camel super comp which has been my new favourite compressor for bass recently. You are going to get to hear what tube tech cl1b vocals sound like as well as a pultec eq on vocals. As the softube cl1b is really a clean emulation of an la2a I will also be doing a tube tech cl1b vs la2a comparison. In the same fashion I will also be doing a tube tech PE1C vs Pultec (noiseash rule tec & acustica audio purple 3). I have stated previously that I adore the plugin alliance bettermaker as a pultec (check out that plugin alliance review) so I will be doing a side by side of that vs acustica titanium. As Tim Petherick has been getting asked about more and more after my 'truth about audio plugins' reaction video I decided to use 2 of his sampled convolution plugins (you need acustica nebula 4 commercial version to load these plugin libraries) so more audio engineers can hear more of his compressor emulations. The waves audio fairchild plugin has been oversampled to 192khz via ddmf metaplugin and the timP libraries have also utilised metaplugin to load them in one instance. I have also included ddmf plugin doctor analysis where we look more in depth into music production software and compare linear frequency response, THD and aliasing. From Pulsar: Pulsar Massive is an emulation of the Manley Massive Passive* EQ that is present in almost every mastering studio in the world. This machine was designed as a synthesis of the best passive equalizers of the last 70 years, and several distinct features in the design give it an absolutely unique sound. First of all, the fully parallel topology of the EQ gives completely different kind of response to a digital equalizer with the same settings. BX_CONSOLE AMEK 9099 (Plugin Alliance) vs ACUSTICA AUDIO AMETHYST 4 || AMEK console plugin shootout My name is Paul Third and this week on mixing wednesdays we are are looking at the new plugin release from the plugin alliance mega bundle. Long story short it is the amek 2098 eq plugin built into a channel strip plugin. Both consoles are very transparent which is odd as rupert neve designed the consoles but again proof to how good an analog designer neve was. We are looking deep into the acustica audio plugins and plugin alliance plugins via ddmf plugin doctor. We are matching eq curves and looking at harmonics and compressor saturation. In this mix we are processing drums (kick, snare, overheads), bass guitar, electric guitar, horns, piano, lead vocal and backing vocals. I used the brainworx mono maker and stereo width where applicable and also the soft clipping option in the limiter. hi pass and low pass filters used, TMT and THD (total harmonic distortion) adjusted to suit each source. This is a mixing multitrack session that we are working on right now so was nice to hear the track with eq and compression.
