TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 7730 Printing Problem, Printhead Error: --- If you install a standard HP 952 or high yield HP 952XL ink cartridge into your #HP #OfficeJetPro 7730 #Printer & observe the "USE #SETUP #CARTRIDGES " #error message on the display, typically "SETUP" cartridges will be required to #reinitialize the printer and will not allow use of HP OEM regular or extra large tanks, 3rd party aftermarket or refilled HP original ink cartridges to function. The error may also be displayed if the #PRINTHEAD assembly is removed & replaced (i.e. #programming requirement). If the original 'SETUP' #cartridges are not available, it is possible bypass the lockout message by performing the following steps. NOTE 1: Procedures may vary depending on regional location and by printer model version / software revision. 1. Navigate to the SUPPORT MENU by pressing the Return button 4 times in a row (Note: the Return button will not be illuminated but is located at the bottom left of menu). 2. Under SUPPORT MENU, scroll down to the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION MENU. 3. At SYSTEM CONFIGURATION MENU, select OK. 4. At the TRADE OOBE MENU, select OK. 5. Here is the link to my mega with the files included #AFJejRvwY_Nrk3v1vknWjw I received this printer from one of my customers who bought cartridges from me as well that were third party. HP occasionally updates their Officejet printers firmware at random times to prevent the use of Non Hp cartridges. Another thing to note is that if you purchase a new officejet printer it is set to default to update the firmware automatically once connected to internet. After some research I was able to find some older firmware updates that would downgrade the printer so that the cartridges could be used again.

UPDATE (7-2023): The link in this video was taken down. Try: HP is terrible. In a recent (2022) firmware upgrade, it made sure you cannot use non-HP ink cartridges. You are going to need to downgrade your firmware. There is currently a link that will take you to that old software that you need to get your printer working again.

TECH TIP: HP 953 Cartridges Depleted – How To Fix: --- If you have installed a #HP953 or #HP953XL black or color ink cartridge and you observe a #Cartridge #Problem ink error or printer alert on your HP #OfficeJet or #OfficeJetPro #printer then it is possible that the internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin or pins. When the cartridge is installed these pins make contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal PRINTHEAD contact pins for visible damage. Each pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced. You should also carefully inspect the cartridge's smart chip surfaces for scratches or lines as this could cause cartridge errors to occur. If scratches are observed it is suggested to clean and reseat the cartridge to see if the problem can be not then replace the ink cartridge with a new one. TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 6830 (E3E02A) No Ink On Paper, Printing Errors: --- The #USE #SETUP #CARTRIDGES #error may be displayed on the #HP #OfficeJet Pro 6830 E3E02A printer (#OfficeJetPro6830 #E3E02A model) after installing regular HP934 or 935 ink cartridges into the printer. Typically "SETUP" cartridges will be required to reinitialize the printer and will not allow use of HP OEM regular or extra large tanks, 3rd party aftermarket or refilled HP original ink cartridges to function. The error may also be displayed if the PRINTHEAD assembly is removed or replaced. If the original 'SETUP' cartridges are not available, you can bypass the lockout message by performing the following steps: 1. Navigate to the SUPPORT MENU by pressing the Return button 4 times in a row (Note: the Return button will not be illuminated but is located at the bottom left of menu). 2. Depending on your exact #HP #printer model version, the following steps may vary slightly but will generally be similar. 1) On the printer’s control panel display (or printer driver software on computer) either select Setup – Tools, or Setup – Printer Maintenance. 2) Scroll down to select Restore Factory Defaults. 3) Once selected the Restore Factory Defaults window will prompt a warning. Click Yes or Continue to proceed with Restore Factory Defaults. 4) After clicking Yes or Continue the printer will proceed to restore factory defaults and restart automatically. 5) The ‘Protected Cartridge’ feature is now disabled. Unfortunately, if you currently have a ‘protected’ ink cartridge installed it will need to be disposed of and replaced with a new cartridge since it is permanently 'locked out'. TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 Printer Ink System Failure: --- For the #HP #OfficeJet Pro 9020 #printer the " #USE #SETUP #CARTRIDGES " #error message may be displayed on your #printer following the installation of regular HP962 or 962XL ink cartridges into the printer. Typically, the original "SETUP" cartridges are normally required to #reinitialize the printer and will not allow use of HP OEM regular or extra large tanks, 3rd party aftermarket or refilled HP original ink cartridges to function. TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 Printer - Ink System Failure: --- For the #HP #OfficeJet Pro 7720 Printer (#HP7720), if you have installed a #HP952 cartridge (or HP 952XL) and you observe a #Printhead #Failure or #Printer #Failure then it is possible that the internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin or pins. When the #cartridge is installed the cartridge's smart chip makes direct contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD pins, and can sometimes bend (or break) the pins if the cartridge is forcibly installed or if the cartridge's #electronic #chip is misaligned, etc.. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal PRINTHEAD contact pins for visible bending, breakage or damage. Compare each row of pins when making this evaluation. Each pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced. Depending on your exact #HP #printer model version, the following steps may vary slightly but will generally be similar. 1) On the printer’s control panel display (or printer driver software on computer) either select Setup – Tools, or Setup – Printer Maintenance. 2) Scroll down to select Restore Factory Defaults. 3) Once selected the Restore Factory Defaults window will prompt a warning. Click Yes or Continue to proceed with Restore Factory Defaults. 4) After clicking Yes or Continue the printer will proceed to restore factory defaults and restart automatically. 5) The ‘Protected Cartridge’ feature is now disabled. Unfortunately, if you currently have a ‘protected’ ink cartridge installed it will need to be disposed of and replaced with a new cartridge since it is permanently 'locked out'. Moving forward any new HP ink cartridge installed into your printer will not be protected and may be #reused or #recycled for future use later. --- For printers that display error messages such as “ #incompatible cartridge”, “cartridge #problem” or “ #Ink #System #Failure” then it is possible that a newer version of HP printer #firmware may have been installed onto your printer and the cartridge #chip or #chips are now #locked out, or there is not enough ink inside the cartridge to support print operations. TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 8746 Printing Problem, Printhead Error: --- After installing a standard HP 952 or 952XL ink cartridge into your #HP #OfficeJetPro 8746 #Printer, if you observe the "USE #SETUP #CARTRIDGES " #error message on the display, typically "SETUP" cartridges are required to #reinitialize the printer and will not allow use of HP OEM regular or extra large (XL) tanks, 3rd party aftermarket or refilled HP original ink cartridges to function. The error may also be displayed if the #PRINTHEAD assembly is removed & replaced (i.e. #programming requirement). If the original 'SETUP' #cartridges are not available, it is possible bypass the lockout message by performing the following steps. NOTE 1: Procedures may vary depending on regional location and by printer model version / software revision. 1. Navigate to the SUPPORT MENU by pressing the Return button 4 times in a row (Note: the Return button will not be illuminated but is located at the bottom left of menu). 2. Under SUPPORT MENU, scroll down to the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION MENU. 3. At SYSTEM CONFIGURATION MENU, select OK. 4. At the TRADE OOBE MENU, select OK. 5. At the TRADE SUPPLIES DISABLED MENU, select OK. 6. HP #OEM regular, aftermarket or refilled ink cartridges may now be used in the printer. Depending on your exact #HP #printer model version, the following steps may vary slightly but will generally be similar. 1) On the printer’s control panel display (or printer driver software on computer) either select Setup – Tools, or Setup – Printer Maintenance. 2) Scroll down to select Restore Factory Defaults. 3) Once selected the Restore Factory Defaults window will prompt a warning. Click Yes or Continue to proceed with Restore Factory Defaults. 4) After clicking Yes or Continue the printer will proceed to restore factory defaults and restart automatically. 5) The ‘Protected Cartridge’ feature is now disabled. Unfortunately, if you currently have a ‘protected’ ink cartridge installed it will need to be disposed of and replaced with a new cartridge since it is permanently 'locked out'. For 2 cartridge-based printer models you will need to replace both ink cartridges as it is very likely both cartridges have been infected and permanently disabled by the printer’s software. Moving forward any new HP ink cartridge installed into your printer will not be protected and may be #reused or #recycled for future use later. --- For printers that display error messages such as “ #incompatible cartridge”, “cartridge #problem” or “ #Ink #System #Failure” then it is possible that a newer version of HP printer #firmware may have been installed onto your printer and the cartridge #chip or #chips are now #locked out, or there is not enough ink inside the cartridge to support print operations.
