Audi RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Models Get Competition Packages With Less Sound Deadening The Competition Plus package included a suspension that can be as much as inches lower than other a standard RS model. Audi makes the RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe, and RS5 Sportback even more potent by introducing the new Competition and Competition Plus packs to Europe. It's not yet clear whether these upgrades might arrive for the RS5 in the US. We are reaching out to the North American branch to find out. The Competition package is the starting point for these updates. It includes the RS Sports Exhaust System Plus with two, wide-diameter oval-shaped exhaust pipes. Audi describes the resulting sound as "more intense." Plus, there are about pounds (8 kilograms) less sound deadening between the engine compartment and interior, so that occupants can hear more of the twin-turbo V6. There are also tweaks to the software for the engine and transmission control units. The result is quicker shifts and a larger difference between the various driving modes. The top-speed limiter increases to 180 miles per hour (290 kilometers per hour). Both Competition packages include a black exterior trim pack. The darker pieces include the badges. Matte-finish carbon covers the mirror caps, front blade, side flaps, sill extensions, and rear diffuser trim. For the first time on the RS4 and RS5, the body is available in crystal-effect Sebring Black. As an optional extra, there are 20-inch wheels in a Phantom Black finish. Inside, they have seat side panels in Piano Black. The RS sport chairs are available with a mix of Dinamica faux suede and Pearl Nappa leather. The seat belts are black with red edges. Upgrading to the Competition Plus package gets buyers all of this equipment and more. For example, there are the RS Sport Suspension Pro manually adjustable dampers. As delivered, the changes drop the ride height inches (10 millimeters) over the standard RS trims. Buyers can then drop it as much as an additional inches if they want. The suspension also has a higher spring rate, three-way adjustable dampers, and stiffer stabilizers. The Competition Plus replaces the dynamic steering assist with a fixed 1:13.1 ratio. The Quattro Sport Differential has a new data set for its control unit that emphasizes sending power to the rear. Plus, re-tuned ABS software and ceramic brakes reduce the stopping distance from 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) by feet (2 meters). There are no engine modifications. The models use a twin-turbo V6 making 444 horsepower (331 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque. Still, the other tweaks help make the vehicles a bit quicker. The RS4 Avant reaches 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.9 seconds – 0.2 seconds better than a stock version. The RS5 Coupe and Sportback reach that speed in 3.8 seconds – 0.1 seconds better. In Europe, the Competition and Competition Plus packs are available starting in July 2023. The Competition equipment is €7,875 ($7,786 at current exchange rates). As BMW is getting ready to step up the game with upcoming derivatives of the M3 and M4, Audi is responding with a Competition Package available on the RS5 coupe and Sportback. It aims to make the RS5 faster, louder, and more aggressive. While the output of the twin-turbo V-6 engine remains unchanged at 444 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, the Competition model comes with a more generous governor that increases the top speed from 174 mph to 180 mph. The “RS Sport Exhaust System Plus,” not available on the regular RS5, not only blares out its message to the public more freely, its impact is further enhanced by Audi ripping out almost 18 pounds worth of sound insulation so those inside the car can enjoy the engine note better, too. The eight-speed automatic transmission changes gears even more quickly. We wish Audi would have corrected the direction of the manual shifter gate, as Porsche did a few years ago, but alas. There are plenty of interesting chassis modifications, too. Besides the rear differential, which is modified to make the RS5 more tail-happy, Audi says it has retuned the fixed-ratio steering, which it calls Sport Direct Steering. An adjustable coilover suspension lowers the car by 0.4 inch and can be manually adjusted to be another 0.4 inch lower, making for a total reduction of 0.8 inch compared with the standard RS5. There are also higher spring rate and stiffer stabilizers. Good news when you take on that M4 or Lexus RC F on the racetrack. The new competition package is bursting with extras that both sharpen the cars’ appearance and make for a more emotional driving experience. With its optional coilover suspension (RS sport suspension pro), the competition plus package boasts a maximum in dynamics and driving fun while not compromising its top suitability for everyday use. Sometimes less is more: Reduced insulation between the engine compartment and the interior means the RS 4 Avant and RS 5 will thrill customers with an exciting, next-level sound experience. The potent biturbo V6 has 331 kW (450 PS) of power and a torque of 600 newton meters from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm. The Audi RS 4 Avant and RS 5 with the competition packages will be available from dealers starting July. Prices start at euros for the competition package and 11,875 euros for the competition plus package. Despite its focus on increased driving fun, the RS sport suspension pro offers manually adjustable coilover suspension for an ideal spread between comfort and performance. Thanks to this, even longer distances can be covered comfortably with all available assistance systems and without any limitations. Customers who choose this coilover suspension will receive their RS 4 Avant or RS 5 ex factory with a ride height that is 10 mm lower than standard RS models. Plus, customers can manually lower the ride height by an additional 10 mm for an overall ride height that is 20 mm lower than the series standard. A higher spring rate, three-way adjustable dampers, and stiffer stabilizers heighten the general driving experience and help shorten lap times. The upshot: Customers profit from more precise and more agile handling. Both competition packages also feature an increased maximum speed of 290 km/h. The Audi RS 4 Avant with the competition plus package goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds over the series standard. The Audi RS 5 Coupé or RS 5 Sportback does the sprint in 3.8 seconds, an improvement of 0.1 seconds. The dynamic steering ratio is fixed at a ratio of 1 to 13.1. With all these enhancements, Audi Sport GmbH has created unerring handling and even greater tracking. The enhanced quattro sport differential ensures an increased degree of agility and driving fun – especially in the “dynamic” driving mode. A new data set in the control unit with changed parameters switches the emphasis to the rear. Fine-tuning to the engine control unit software makes for tighter load changes in S mode when the “dynamic” drive select is active – further increasing the emotionality. A re-enhanced look In the interior, both the competition and competition plus packages offer the following: the seat side panels gleam in Piano Black. An optional Dinamica / Pearl Nappa combination upgrade is available for the standard RS sort seats. The Dinamica material is made of 45 percent recycled PET fibers; about 215 grams of PET fibers are processed per seat. The four rings on the hood and the trunk lid as well as the model lettering underscore the sporty character with their glossy black finish. For the first time for the RS 4 and RS 5, the exterior now comes in a matching crystal effect Sebring Black finish. Customers who want to further highlight the sporty look of their RS 4 Avant or RS 5 can purchase high-sheen competition wheels in Phantom Black. For an additional charge by request, Audi will combine the 20” fully milled wheels with the Pirelli P Zero Corsa high-performance tires. Matrix LED headlights are standard on the Audi RS 5; they illuminate the road with laser light.
