Part 3 of repairing the Drive gear on the motor. Dowel pin deteriorated to nothing. Carter-pin on the motor output driveshaft had completely been destroyed by the torque over such a period of time,allowing the motor drive-gear to spin freely. Meaning.. zero power output to the tire. Well its been apparently repaired... be sure to check out the repair videos,posted shortly! More follow up videos soon to come after final cleanup of the motors brushes and brush-hub,the re-installation and final test to see if it holds up and works! i recently purchased this 7x14 500 watt 3/4 hp mini lathe from Amazon by a company called Banyan Exports the lathe was delivered in a little over a week by fedex and seems to be in good quality and fit for a imported product only issue i can find is when i engage the power feed the plastic gears grind and the power feed doesn't work due too this one gear. I have contacted Banyan exports we will see how this issue is resolved i am hoping for the best i really look forward to showing this lathe off on my channel

I have only been able to find traces of info out there about what I have heard called a "cotter pin" or a "distributor dowel." But basically, I think it is a pin that goes through the gears on the distributor and keeps the gears on the distributor and the distributor drive gear in line with each other. The distributor rotor fails to rotate when the engine is turned over. So I suspected a broken timing chain. However, upon removing the valve cover the timing chain is intact (***). By manually turning the crankshaft I can see the timing chain turn, the camshaft functioning, and the distributor drive gear rotating. I can also see that the gear on the distributor is not engaged with the rotating distributor drive gear. I can see a hole for a "cotter/dowel/pin" to go, but no trace of the actual "pin." Second thoughts about it - If the cotter/dowel/pin broke off it would be in my oil pan. I foresee possible problems there. But, my distributor looks fine other than that (no mashed gears), so I was hoping to be able re-install a new cotter/dowel/pin into my distributor and save some cash. Think I could do that? Know how to ask for that part? Any thoughts? ***My left, when facing the engine, timing chain stay is snapped (also in the oil pan most likely). I thought that usually the right side (which mine has an aftermarket metal stay) broke because that is the side that carries the tension? How important is the slack side chain stay? But like i said - the timing chain is rotating and at good tension so I dont think that is the root problem of the distributor rotor failing to rotate.

I've neglected this engine and car for over 7 years. it went down in April 2014. I've slowly bought all the parts for it throughout the years. I had a kid in June '14, with work, life in general it's been almost impossible to find time. If it isn't the weather,it's its school, and everything else. literally raising my daughter on my own without the mother has made his car and life on the back burner long enough. This will be clips of the revival of my 30th anniversary Camaro.

Today at Alf's Mustang Garage we replace the speedometer drive gear on a 65 Mustang fastback after previously diagnosing it as having the wrong drive gear installed. The speedometer on this car was not working and the odometer was rolling backwards. Come to find out, there was a drive gear installed from a 3 speed toploader and the teeth roll in the opposite direction on the 3-speeds. So today we remove the extension housing, remove and replace the drive gear, and re-install the tail shaft housing.
