Even with the same rating, Orbi couldn’t match the speed of Eero Pro 6 at any point. - Orbi systems are notorious for bad firmware updates, but in six weeks, I didn’t experience any issues this time around. The stability was rock solid too. - The Orbi phone app is slow to load, has lots of bugs, and unavoidable ads. It also lacks DNS and port customization settings and native parental controls. - Compared to Eero Pro 6, Orbi is four times taller and three times bigger by volume. You can’t tuck these away. - Orbi has five Ethernet ports and a web-based interface with advanced customizations that should make power users happy. - $379 for two Orbi RBK752 nodes. Ce système Wi-Fi maillé Netgear Orbi (aussi appelé « Mesh ») se compose d’un routeur tri-bandes et d’un satellite. Il est sorti en 2020 et est fabriqué au Vietnam. La référence constructeur du modèle testé est RBK752 (AX4200) ; il est vendu 425€ environ. Ce Mesh Netgear Orbi permet d’améliorer l’accès Wi-Fi dans une grande maison (couverture théorique de 186m² par module). On connecte ainsi le routeur en sortie de box Internet, et on installe le satellite à l’endroit où la connexion Wi-Fi est mauvaise. Le routeur Orbi et son satellite communiquent via une connexion Wi-Fi 6 dédiée, et le satellite joue un rôle de répéteur. Cela permet ainsi de se connecter à Internet dans de bonnes conditions dans toutes les pièces de la maison. Au niveau du packaging, on trouve : - Un routeur - Un satellite - Deux adaptateurs secteur - Câble réseau plat de catégorie 5E - Guide de démarrage rapide Le design du Mesh est réussi, avec des formes modernes, un coloris neutre et deux boîtiers compacts (23,1cm x 18,3cm x 7,1cm). Les antennes sont intégrées il y a 2 pas de vis sous chaque boîtier. Le Netgear Orbi RBK752 est doté de la technologie Wi-Fi 6. Par rapport au Wi-Fi 5, le Wi-Fi 6 améliore le débit des données, le codage de signal, et il est doté d’une modulation d’ordre supérieur. Ces fonctionnalités offrent un gain de vitesse théorique d’environ 40% par rapport au Wi-Fi 5. Le Wi-Fi 6 permet également une meilleure utilisation de la bande passante ainsi que l’utilisation du MU-MIMO à 8 flux. Tout comme le Wi-Fi 5, le Wi-Fi 6 travaille sur les bandes et 5GHz. Attention, le hardware Orbi Wi-Fi 6 n’est pas rétro-compatible avec le hardware Orbi Wi-Fi 5 (IEEE ). Cela signifie par exemple que l’on ne peut pas utiliser un satellite Orbi RBK50 avec le routeur du RBK752. L’installation du Netgear Orbi se fait depuis l’appli smartphone « Netgear Orbi ». Il est nécessaire de se créer un compte avant de pouvoir l’utiliser. Le routeur et son satellite sont pré-synchronisés, ce qui simplifie le déploiement du Mesh. L’interface de l’application est basique mais conviviale. On peut paramétrer sommairement le réseau Wi-Fi, obtenir la liste des périphériques connectés, effectuer les mises à jour firmware, activer/désactiver Netgear Armor et accéder à deux utilitaires : Speedtest ainsi qu’une analyse en temps réel du réseau. Pour information, l’application intégrée « Netgear Armor » permet de sécuriser son accès Internet contre les trojans, ransomwares etc. mais, après une période d’essai de 1 mois seulement, l’outil devient payant. Le routeur RBR750 peut également être configuré via une interface Web depuis n’importe quel navigateur. L’interface est en français et propose deux onglets : « Basique » et « Avancé ». Cette dernière est beaucoup plus fournie en options. S’il n’y a pas de contrôle parental proposé, il est néanmoins possible de bloquer l’accès à certains sites via des mots-clés, ou définir des plages horaires/jours pour autoriser ou non l’accès à Internet. Le RBK752 autorise l’agrégation de bande passante WAN 2Gbps lorsque l’on combine le port WAN avec le port LAN1 du routeur. A noter que le RBK752 ne propose pas d’agrégation de bande passante en LAN, ce qui est dommage. Ce Mesh permet également de connecter des périphériques en filaire, mais le nombre de ports Ethernet est limité : 3 fiches RJ45 sur le routeur et 2 fiches RJ45 sur le satellite. Il n’y a pas de port USB sur le routeur ni sur son satellite. Depuis le 2ème étage de ma maison, la connexion Internet est aléatoire et surtout dégradée : avec une seule barre de signal Wi-Fi, les décrochages sont fréquents et le débit tombe régulièrement sous 15Mbps en download et 5Mbps en upload. C’est dans cette situation que le Netgear Orbi RBK752 tire son épingle du jeu : en installant le satellite au 2ème étage, le signal Wi-Fi devient excellent (4 barres) et je n’ai pas constaté de décrochages en 5 mois d’utilisation : la connexion Internet est parfaitement stable. Les débits sont tout aussi bons, avec des taux de transferts quasi identiques dans toutes les pièces de ma maison (43Mbps en DL et 11Mbps en Up) : ce Mesh remplit dont parfaitement sa mission. En conclusion, ce Mesh Netgear Orbi RBK752 permet d’améliorer significativement la portée et la qualité du signal Wi-Fi et ce, en dépit de quelques carences logicielles et hardware. Le RBK752 sera utile dans les grandes maisons ou lorsque les murs sont épais. Points positifs : + Connexion stable et bonnes performances + Bonne couverture Wi-Fi + Interface smartphone conviviale + Simplicité d’installation + Un seul réseau Wi-Fi dans toute la maison + Design réussi Points négatifs : - Onéreux - Fonctionnalités limitées de l’appli smartphone - Incompatible avec le hardware Orbi Wi-Fi 5 - Nombre de port Ethernet limité - Pas d’agrégation de bande LAN - Pas de port USB - Contrôle parental absent de l’appli smartphone - Netgear Armor gratuit un mois seulement Climaxe

I am helping my friend to install it because he has only 1 spot in his house (on the second floor) where everyone access the internet! He does not have the internet in his garages and on his front yard and the backyard. After installing this Orbi Mesh Wi Fi 6 System now he has strong internet in EVERY part of his house and even outside (about 40-50 ft away from the house!!!)
