В принципе при наличии функции сетевой принтер-эта проблема может быть легко устранена. Но в том случае если у Вас на рабочем месте стоит принтер не имеющий подключения к сети, и для того чтобы избежать ситуации когда отключен головной компьютер через который производится подключение принтера в сеть, нужно использовать такое устройство, как принт-сервер. Обычно принт-сервер представляет собой небольшую коробку, на которой имеются разъемы для подключения к компьютерной сети, принтеру и источнику питания. Количество портов для подключения принтеров может варьироваться от одного до трех. На некоторых моделях имеется также последовательный порт для подключения принтера по интерфейсу RS-232. Режим работы и наличие питающего напряжения индицируются светодиодами. После подключения через принт-сервер принтер становится независимым разделяемым устройством. Он может располагаться в любом удобном для пользователей месте. Современные принт-серверы обеспечивают, как правило, работу по всем существующим сетевым протоколам, включая IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, NetBIOS, NetBEUI, со всеми сетевыми операционными системами, такими как Windows 95/98/NT, Novell NetWare, OS/2 и UNIX-подобными ОС. Исключением являются специализированные принт-серверы, предназначенные для печати только из офисных приложений и ориентированные на работу с ОС Windows 95/98/NT/2000.Наряду с обычными, проводными принт-серверами в последние годы разработаны модели использующие подключение по радиоканалу. Беспроводной принт-сервер позволяет оптимизировать процесс печати путем объединения в единую сеть стандартных принтеров и многофункциональных устройств. Такое решение делает процесс управления более эффективным и обеспечивает более надежную работу подключенных устройств. В любом случае применение принт-серверов позволяет снизить затраты ресурсов на техническое обслуживание и, соответственно, снизить число возникающих проблем, а значит увеличить производительность вашей работы.

Hoje as impressoras já vem com placa de rede facilitando a instalação e a manutenção, mas as impressoras mais antigas só tinham porta paralela, nem USB não tinham. Neste caso o ideal é a instalação de print server, assim a sua impressora antiga pode ser instalada na rede independentemente dos micros.

Резко встал вопрос о подключении моего принтера к домашней сети. Для этого можно или купить принтер с WiFi модулем и подключить, либо подключить принтер к USB порту роутера или купить специальный print-server. Самым простым вариантом является подключение принтера к USB порту роутера, но у меня роутер находится довольно далеко от принтера, а тот, который ближе не имеет порта USB. Для этого нам понадобиться самый дешевый роутер, который можно прошить и который имеет в наличии USB порт. Я приобрел недорогой WiFI роутер NEXX WT3020, который можно использовать не только как простой 2,4 Ггц роутер, а и для расширения WiFi сети, как точку доступа с 4G/3G или даже как сетевой NAS сервер – просто подключив флэш накопитель. Все эти опции роутер NEXX имеет «их коробки», но быть print-сервером он не умеет. Для этого его надо прошить прошивкой Padavan. Так как доступ по Telnet к роутеру по умолчанию предоставляется, то дело обновления прошивки занимает около 5 минут. После обновление программного обеспечения надо перевести роутер в режим WiFi моста и подключить принтер. В итоге за неполные 20 долларов в доме появился принтер, на который можно производить печать с любого устройства подключенного к сети. Для этого нам надо SSH/ Telnet клиент - ~sgtatham/putty/ Прошивка Padavan для роутера NEXX WT3020 - Инструкция как прошить рутер NEXX WT3020 – обновление Firmware 1 – подключить роутер к PC или подключиться к WiFi сети созданной роутером (пароль admin/admin), при подключении WiFI пароль – 2. Закидываем на флэш накопитель скачанную прошивку, рекомендую ее переименовать на простое название 3. Вставляем флэшку в роутер 4. Подключаемся по Telnet к роутеру, используем Putty, адрес подключения Login: nexxadmin Password: 4. Вводим команду (можно скопировать, но в окне Putty надо использовать комбинацию Shift+Insert) cd /media/sda/sda1 5. Делаем бекап существующей прошивки роутера. 6. Перепрошиваем роутер на новую прошивку. mtd_write -r -e mtd3 write mtd3 7. Подключаемся к роутеру или по адресу (admin/admin) или через WiFi – пароль 1234567890 8. Переводим роутер в режим WiFi моста. 9. Переходим в «старый» роутер и находим IP адрес роутера NEXX. 10. В меню USB проверяем включен ли режим проброса USB принтера. 11. Walmart Affiliate Product Link: You’ll receive the network server, an AC power adapter with 4 foot long power cord, 40 inch Ethernet cable, driver CD, and an instruction manual. The server unit measures 2 inch wide, 2 inches long and 3/4 inch tall and weighs just under 1 ounce. On the front of the unit there is a full-size USB 2.0 port that supports up to 480 Mbps transfer speed, and on the back is the AC adapter port and Ethernet jack. On top, in the lower right corner is a green power LED and on the bottom you have some information with the MAC address and serial number. Setting up the unit is pretty simple. First, plug the power adapter into a nearby wall outlet and attach it to the server. Then plug the Ethernet cable into the server and connect it to any available LAN Ethernet port on your router. Finally, plug your printer into the server using its USB connection and power it on. This server supports printers that use LPR Network Printing and Bonjour Print Services. I’m connecting my thermal label printer to the server because it doesn’t natively support WiFi and normally I’d have to plug the unit directly into my laptop or computer. With the server, I can access the printer wirelessly over my home WiFi network and can print from any computer or laptop on the same network, making it more convenient and accessible. All I need to do is install the print server driver on the device I want to print from. The driver for the network server can be found on the included CD, but your computer or laptop may not have a CD-rom drive. If that’s the case, you can download the driver from Wavlink’s website. Once you’ve extracted the software from the ZIP file, just double-click setup to launch the application. Choose the first menu item, ‘Networking Printer Wizard for Windows’ and follow the prompts on the screen. Installation is pretty quick and only takes about 10 seconds. When it’s finished, you’ll want to restart your computer. After you’ve rebooted, launch the new icon for the Network Print Wizard and follow the prompts. Select the Wavlink Print Server from the list of shared printers. Then choose the driver for the printer that you attached to the print server. If you don’t know this information, you can try using the generic printer driver, but it’s worth getting the right drivers from your printer manufacturer's website to ensure proper operation. After you’ve confirmed your selections you can click Finish and that’s pretty much it. After that quick setup, I was able to print to the printer wirelessly over my network rather than plugging it directly into my computer. When printing, make sure in your print dialog that the Wavlink Print Server is selected as the printer. My computer was able to send print jobs to the printer connected to the print server flawlessly and the printer fired up right away every time. But printers aren’t the only devices you can connect to the server! You can attach a USB thumb drive, mobile phone, or even a webcam, and these devices would become accessible over the network. Just be sure to install the “USB server driver” from the installation application, following on-screen prompts as before. Then when you launch the USB Network Server program, you’ll be able to ""connect"" to the device attached to the server. Just note that devices will appear as ""locally connected devices,"" and will not show up under network locations by default. You’ll only be able to access the networked printer/storage/device from one computer at a time unless you specifically enable network sharing for it. Overall, this USB network server was super simple to setup on my home WiFi network and installing the drivers took only a few minutes. Now, I’m able to access my USB-only printers, storage, and other peripherals over the network from a central location near my router, so it’s a great way to bring networked functionality to devices that don’t have this feature built-in. Note, some routers may already have this functionality built-in! Check for a USB port on your router that may be able to act as a print server or NAS connection point, or use the Wavlink Networking server to add additional network connected USB devices to your setup. Whenever you wish to print something from your computer, it is essential that the printing driver be installed. You have to further on make sure that the printer you are connecting your computer to, its server is also installed. To learn how to install a Windows 7 print server, follow the tutorial below. Step 1 -- Open the Control Panel First of all, open up the start menu and click on "Control Panel". Once the "Control Panel" window opens up, click on "Programs & Features". In the "Programs & Features" window, click on the "Turn Windows features on or off" option which is located on the pane towards the left side of the window. Step 2 -- Click on the "Print and Documents Services" option Once the new window opens up, click on the "Print and Documents Services" option. Now tick on the checkboxes titled "LPD Print Service" and "LPR Port Monitor". With that done, click on "Ok" and now close all the opened windows. Step 3 -- Select the "Add a printer" button Now let's move to the start menu and click on "Devices and Printer". Over here, click on the "Add a printer" button on top. Step 4 -- Add a local printer With that done, from the message that appears, let's choose the option of adding a local printer here. Step 5 -- Select the "Create a new port" option In the next window, switch to the "Create a new port" option and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the drop down menu. With that done, click on "Next". Step 6 -- Enter the IP Address Now you will be required to put the IP Address and with that done, click on "Next". Step 7 -- Shift to the "Custom" option In the next screen, switch to the "Custom" option and then click on the "Settings" option. Step 8 -- Switch to LPR Over here, in the "Port Setting" window, switch to "LPR" and in the "LPR Settings" section, type "L1" in the Queue Name field. With that done, click on "Ok". Step 9 -- Choose a printer In the next window, you will be required to choose a printer before moving on to the next step. Step 10 -- Select the "Do not share printer" option Once the printer has been installed, this window will appear right in front of you. Over here, keep the option "Do not share this printer" enabled and move on to the next step. Step 11 -- Establish a virtual port Now we will be creating a virtual port to connect with the printer. For that, add a local printer and click on the "use an existing port" option this time. With that done move on to the next step. Step 12 -- Select your printer Over here, you will be required to select your printer before moving on to the next step. Step 13 -- Keep the recommended settings Keep the recommended settings as it is in this step and then click on the "Next" option. Step 14 -- Finish installation With that done simply keep moving through the wizard and install the print server. In the last step, do remember to tick on the checkbox titled "set as the default printer" and click on "Finish" to close the window. Step 15 -- Select the "Devices and Printer" option Now, in the "Devices and Printer" window, click on the "Print server properties" button on the top. Step 16 -- Open the "Ports" tab When the Print server properties window opens up, move over to the "Ports" tab. Over here you can see that your printer is successfully installed and it is using the LPT1 port. Click on "ok" to close this window and that's it. You have successfully installed your print server. After you have finished installing the Windows 7 print server you can now take out printouts of whichever documents you need.
