The Synology RS1221+ and RS1221RP+ Rackstation NAS get closer to Release Good news for those of you who are STILL waiting for the release of the compact 8-Bay Synology rackmount, the RS1221+ nears release and we now have the official data sheet on the device with a release date scheduled for mid January 2021. Yes, the Synology RS1221+ (and also the RS1221RP+ of course with it’s redundant PSU) have been waiting in the wings for a while now, right the way back to the incidental leak of a RS1220+ last year that came to nothing. The appearance of the RS1221+ was already largely confirmed back in October 2020 (thanks again, to Stashman2000 on reddit) and now this release is becoming a great deal more concrete. Arriving with the internal architecture previously revealed on the DS1621+ and DS1821+, these two new Synology Rackstation devices are the first rackmount devices from the brand to feature the Ryzen V1500B server processor, as well as 4GB ECC DDR4 memory by default. This is combined with the half depth rackmount design (even on the 2x PSU model only increases the depth from 30cm to 40cm), PCIe Gen 3 x8 upgrade slot, 4x LAN and USB 3.1 Gen 1 that has featured on previous units in the RS12xx+ series. A nice middle ground between rackmount and desktop in both price and scale, the RS1221+ and RS1221RP+ are still pretty niche (in a genre of IT that is an niche as NAS, that IS pretty small). So, let’s have a good look at the contents of the data sheet and see if there is anything else new to learn. This is now the second Synology Diskstation that has this problem. Problem first started after I enabled WOL. Prior to that startup and shutdown was ok. Now, I think that its usually a problem when I shut the machine down using the DSM, not using the power switch. Using the power switch I have much better odds at it starting up again ok. To use the device I need to physically turn it off at the back, wait a moment, and begin startup anew. Any ideas??

In the unfortunate event of a Synology NAS Hardware failure, you can still recover data from the Hard Drive RAID array using a PC. Follow along with this tutorial to potentially recover all your precious data with ease. You will need a few things in order to complete this tutorial successfully. You will need a PC with enough SATA ports to cater for all the hard drives from within your Synology NAS unit. If your Synology NAS has 8 hard drives in a RAID or SHR array, you will need 8 free SATA ports on your PC motherboard. You will also need a USB Stick with 8GB or greater of space. This is needed in order to install Ubuntu and have enough free space for Persistent storage. Persistent storage is where any changes or additions to the USB version of Ubuntu will still be present after a restart or shutdown of the operating system.
