Сетевое хранилище NAS - это сервер который позволяет организовать хранение вашей информации и взаимодействовать с ней по сети. RAID массивы на основе NAS довольно популярны так как данное сетевое хранилище является экономным, надежным, легкодоступным решением хранения информации среди малых предприятий и частных лиц. Но, как и любые другие устройства для организации хранения информации и конфигурации RAID массивов, подвержены сбоям и человеческому фактору. Случайное удаление, аппаратные и программные сбои, неправильная настройка и т.д., может повлечь за собой утерю важной информации. И это не зависит от того на каком уровне RAID организованно хранилище. В результате сбоя NAS больше не будет предоставлять доступ к хранилищу. So I am another victim of Intel Atom C2000 series failure. My NAS Synology DS415+ stopped working after three and a half years. Loosing 8Tb of data was least suitable solution so the power of the Internet brought me to Synology community forum thread with a resistor fix: Please read it before doing anything. Correction: The fans are actual “92mm” fans, not “90mm” due to this, if a fan bearing goes bad or a blade breaks or something like that, you can buy any generic 92mm fan to replace it with. My little HDD dock is no longer meeting my needs when it comes to productivity and just general overall connectivity to my storage and YouTube archive drives, so I have decided to invest in a NAS, a Synology DS415+ to be precise. This should cater for all of my current (and hopefully) future needs. Don’t worry, I’m not abandoning my HDD dock, it still works fine, and will be from now on mainly used with my laptop. UPDATE: the unit died today( 1/15/2021). The DS415 play and plus have the intel c2000 bug. This can be fixed with a 100ohm resistor, new cr1220 battery and thermal past on the CPU. Search YouTube for fix there are videos already. The unit is back up but do not depend on this model of hardware, upgrade soon!! I’ve already purchased a DS920+ to be prepared for the hardware to fail. Shows how to disassemble and perform a memory upgrade to the Synology DS415+. It WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!! Spent the day upgrading the stock 2GB 204pin DDR3 1600 memory of the Synology DS415+ to Crucial 204pin 1600 DDR3 8GB memory Purchased Crucial 8GB DDR3 and matched it spec for spec. Worked like a charm!!

Synology seems to have an issue with power failures on their NAS products. This is the second Synology NAS failure in 5 months for us. In the meantime, the common problems seem to be (1) fans spin up, but the device doesn't power-up the drives, (2) Synology NAS power button doesn't work, (3) Synology NAS won't turn on, and (4) a failing PSU or power cable, just from research online and our own experience. Synology told me that this was a decision on their part to differentiate the product lines - the Play edition for home media serving, and the + editions for small to mid size business markets that need better performance for real time encryption, etc. Synology sent us the 415Play for testing and I put it to work seeing how well it could transcode a high bit rate Bluray MKV file to my iPad and other devices. Surprisingly it could handle that file with ease to the iPad, encoding it perfectly and firing it off over WiFi. It only used about 30% of the 415Play's available processor resources, meaning the drive could do other things in addition to serving me video. Chromecast was another story unfortunately. It was not able to maintain the stream as reliably as the iPad, pausing and breaking up while I was watching it. The DS415Play also allows for the installation of the Plex Media server on the device, but it is not optimized for the 415Play's processor. The result is that 1080p Bluray movie completely bogging down the processor and requiring a reboot. Lower bit rate files (as well as ones that are just passed along to the target device) should work fine in Plex. But I think Synology really wants to steer people towards their own apps vs. something from another vendor. Overall performance of the DS415Play is excellent - sustaining over 100 megabytes per second in both reads and writes over a gigabit network. More than adequate for any home server tasks. So which should you choose? The DS415Play is the best top-end home NAS / media serving device I've tested so far in the studio. Yes the DS415+ has even greater performance if you have link aggregation hardware, etc. but from a standpoint of practicality the DS415Play is really all you'll need. If you're doing things beyond just basic media serving and running more robust server applications on the device, the extra RAM on the DS415+ might be more important than the video encoding features the DS415Play provides. The bottom line though is that I don't think we need to rely on NAS devices for encoding any more. There are some great players on the market that I've tested (namely the WD TV and the Roku 3) that can take those large bitrate files over DLNA from a Synology or other NAS and play them back perfectly.
