Launched at CES 2020, the Synology DS420j is a 4-bay NAS in the company's home line. At a price of roughly $300 bare, the DS420j still comes well-appointed with a quad-core Realtek RTD1296 1.4 GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, support for 64TB of total capacity (4x16TB HDDs) and a two year warranty. Of course the NAS includes Synology's DSM interface and supports key features like Surveillance Station, data backup and secure file sharing. There's a lot to like about this little NAS for home users, small professional offices or for homelabbers who like to tinker. Here are 2 quick ways you can restart and shutdown your Synology NAS and you can does these either via the web interface or using the power button. Let's Shutdown Synology NAS via the web interface first. Login to the web interface of your Synology NAS by either entering the hostname or IP address into a web browser followed by a colon and then the number 5000. In this example we called our Synology NAS 'DiskStationMega' and we use the port 5000 for the web interface. Once logged in you'll see an 'options' icon at the top right of the screen. Click this and select 'Restart' or 'Shutdown' depending on your needs. Click 'Yes' and the Synology NAS will start the shutdown or restart procedure which it uses to create a safe shutdown operation. If you selected 'Restart' please wait a few minutes and you should hear a long beep when it's back up and running again. You can also shutdown and restart synology nas in the same way but by using the button on the front. Locate the power button on the Synology NAS and press and hold this until you hear a beep. The Synology NAS will then start the shutdown procedure and power off when done. To start this up again simply press the power button once again and the Synology NAS will start to power up. It will also beep when it's booted up and is ready to use. The setup and install of the Synology DS1517+ Server. The Synology NAS 5 bay Diskstation provides data storage. Perfect home or small business NAS. This model replaces the old 1515+. This Network Attached Storage will mainly be used for backing up recorded Sim Racing Gameplay, created content, videos, photos and music. I will look into adding application and more functions to this unit. Specs of the DS1517+ NAS Intel Quad Core 8gb RAM 2x 6TB NAS HHD PCI Express slot - for Dual M.2 SSD or 10GB Ethernet card. Starting with 2 x 6TB drives and will expand later as we require more storage. Some of the features that I will be testing out later will include: The USB Copy function - where files can be automatically saved to the server via the USB ports. Great for uploading photos from a camera. This is where the front USB port will be useful. A media center to stream movies to mobile devices or the TV. The Synology Diskstation has a wide variety of applications that can be installed. - Share files with anyone, anywhere, no matter what device. - Easily access files, services, and applications from anywhere. - Synchronize data across multiple devices with your own cloud. - Stream multi media photos movies and music to mobile devices or TV's - Surveillance Record live feeds from IP cameras. - Protect data with backups.
