Supermicro X10DRH-C, X10DRH-CT & X10DRH-CLN4 motherboards inside the CSE-815 chassis - In this video, we will provide a simple and objective overview of the Supermicro X10DRH-C family of motherboards, specifically focus on Memory and Processors. We will dive into the different types of memory, DIMM sizes and speeds. We will touch on max memory installation capabilities. We will even physically install and configure the DIMMs and showcases some best practice tips and tricks along the way. On top of diving into the memory, we will review the compatible processors, and which CPUs we recommend for either low end or high end applications. The Supermicro X10DRH-C family of motherboards are E-ATX boards. These boards can be utilized in multiple chassis types such as rackmounts or towers. In this video, we are using the CSE-815, which is a 1U 4 Bay LFF chassis. Hope you enjoy Cloud Ninjas Supermicro server memory tutorial video on the X10DRH-C family of motherboards. Let's begin with the compatible memory options. Regardless of which type of motherboard - X10DRH-C, X10DRH-CT & X10DRH-CLN4 all utilize the exact same memory and Intel processors. From this point forward, I will refer to X10DRH-C family of motherboards, but please keep in mind all the same information pertains to X10DRH-CT & X10DRH-CLN4 as well. There are 16 DIMM slots operating on DDR4 memory. Several different speeds options are supported: 2133MT/s, 2400MT/s or 2666MT/s. Note 2666 will clock down to 2400MT/s speed. Memory DIMM capacity sizes supported include: 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB. There are two types of compatible memory: ECC Registered (RDIMM) and ECC Load Reduced (LRDIMM) server memory. We recommend ECC Registered server memory for lower DIMM sizes such as 4GB, 8GB or 16GB and we recommend Load Reduced server memory for higher DIMM sizes such as 32GB, 64GB or 128GB. Desktop memory is not supported. The max configuration for Supermicro X10DRH-C motherboard with ECC Registered is 1TB via 16 x 64GB DDR4 2400MT/s ECC Registered server memory. Whereas, Load Reduced Server memory will have twice the capacity! You can get 2TB on your Supermicro X10DRH-C with 16 x 128GB DDR4 2400MT/s ECC Load Reduced server memory. Now let's discuss the processors. There are two CPU sockets, which are an LGA2011-3 sockets. These boards are exclusively running on Intel processors and AMD does not have a compatible processor for this specific board. You can use a couple different types of Intel processor series with the Supermicro X10DRH-C family of motherboards. Intel Xeon E5-2600 V3 or V4 series. Cloud Ninjas recommends E5-2620v3, E5-2680v4 and E5-2690v4. There are a number of great options, we recommend using V4's. The X10DRH-C motherboard is a great option for a homelab server, virtualization environment or even a gaming server. This is a bit of an impromptu video. I was testing out a motherboard for an upcoming project and remembered that I've been wanting to share some tips for those of you building your own server in a Supermicro chassis. Many of the Supermicro server chassis (Specifically the 825, 826, 216, 836, and 846) are built to E-ATX standards and can be used to install E-ATX, ATX, MicroATX, and MiniITX motherboards from other brands. However, the front panel I/O cable in those chassis are a bit unusual and different. Supermicro CSE813M - X9SCL X9SCL-F X9SCL+-F - In this video we will provide a general overview. We will also show how to install and configure the memory. We will physically load the DIMMs and demonstrate some tips and tricks for proper installation. This video will also cover what RAM and CPUs are compatible with the X9SCL motherboard family. Sit back and enjoy! For starters, this video covers all 3 motherboards. Yes - the X9SCL, X9SCL-F and X9SCL+-F. Regarding RAM and CPUs, all three boards utilize the same processors and DIMMs. Which makes it easier to cover all 3 at one time. The chassis CSE813M can technically have different boards inside, but we find most common is the X9SCL family of boards. Let's dig into the RAM first. This machine accepts DDR3 memory. There are 4 DIMM slots. You can use a few different sizes: 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. Unfortunately, there are no 16GBs for this server. 8GBs are indeed the highest DIMM capacity. Speeds include 1066, 1333, 1600 or 1866MT/s. Note, 1866 will clock down to 1600. There is only 1 type of RAM for the X9SCL family and that is ECC Unbuffered, also known as a Server UDIMM. ECC Registered (RDIMMs) and Load Reduced (LRDIMMs) are NOT compatible with the Supermicro X9SCL. This is important. Only ECC Unbuffered. The max configuration is 32GB (4 x 8GB) 1866MT/s ECC Unbuffered Server Memory. Regarding CPUs, there is 1 CPU socket. It is an LGA155 socket. There are few different types of processors you can use. Most notably is the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v1/v2 series. We see a lot of E3-1240v2 and E3-1270v2. This is what we recommend and most popular. You can also utilize Intel 2nd and 3rd Gen core i3 series processors. Intel Pentium and Celeron series are two more options. Yes there are a lot of options for such a small 1U. This is a very simple and efficient server that is great for low end applications. Каждый сервер имеет уникальный пароль для входа (имя пользователя – ADMIN большими буквами), по этой ссылке рассказано, где можно найти пароль На главной страничке консоли удаленного управления указаны версии прошивок BIOS и Firmware сервера, обычно мы обновляем их до свежих версий. Не рекомендуется делать это самостоятельно – только в крайнем случае, чтобы закрыть какую-нибудь недавно обнаруженную уязвимость. Минимальное требование при таком самостоятельном обновлении – подключить сервер к UPS, так как прерывание процесса обновления может перевести сервер в нерабочее состояние, это не будет являться гарантийным случаем. После удаленного включения можно перейти в консоль KVM для полного управления сервером. Существует два способа работы консоли – на основе Java (это потребует установки Java Virtual Machine, она бесплатно доступна для загрузки с сайта ) или прямо из браузера (через HTML5, все современные браузеры поддерживают этот стандарт). Удаленная консоль работает на всех этапах загрузки сервера – с ее помощью можно конфигурировать BIOS системы и добавочных контроллеров, входить в UEFI, а также управлять любой установленной на сервере операционной системой. После подключения удаленной консоли серверу передаются все команды клавиатуры и мыши, для некоторых специфических сочетаний клавиш на экран можно вызвать виртуальную клавиатуру. Главный предмет контроля сервера – состояние его датчиков. (Server Health - Sensor Reading). Особенно важно следить за температурой процессора, как самого горячего компонента системы. Также нужно контролировать температуру модулей памяти. Следующий по важности пункт– состояние вентиляторов охлаждения. При выходе их из строя сервер достаточно быстро перегреется и, в лучшем случае, станет «троттлить» (снижать производительность за счет понижения частоты и отключения ядер), а то и вовсе перестанет работать. В случае проблем с сервером на передней панели будет гореть красная лампочка – в этом случае нужно сразу же подключаться к серверу по удаленному доступу и выяснять источник проблемы. Один из пунктов проверки сервера при тестировании перед отправкой его Заказчику – стрессовое тестирование. Для нагрузки на все ядра процессора мы обычно применяем стандартный в индустрии тест LinPack Запустим Диспетчер задач Windows и перейдем на вкладку, показывающую загрузку ядер. Запустим 64-битную версию LinPack и выберем режим «Все ядра, все потоки». Температура процессора на консоли мониторинга датчиков сразу же подскочит до 89 градусов, а вентиляторы разгонятся на полную скорость (более 20 000 оборотов в минуту) и не позволят серверу уйти в перегрев. После снятия нагрузки все достаточно быстро придет в обычное рабочее состояние. Если сервер постоянно выполняет высоконагруженные задачи, можно сразу же установить вентиляторы на полный продув вне зависимости от температуры внутри серверного корпуса (через меню консоли Configuration - Fan Mode - Set Fan to Full Speed) Помимо суперпользователя ADMIN можно завести еще добавочных операторов удаленного доступа с полными или ограниченными правами (Configuration - Users) Точно так же сервер может быть удаленно выключен. Модуль управления пытается сделать это штатным для операционной системы образом. Если это не получается, может быть осуществлен жесткий Reset в случае зависания сервера. Напоминаем также о необходимости иметь хорошо вентилируемое помещение и разместить сервер так, чтобы не было препятствий на пути притока и оттока воздуха. Серверы и другая компьютерная аппаратура продувают воздух от передней панели к задней.

In this video, I show the upgrade process I took to replace system fans in a Supermicro 846 Server Chassis with new quiet fans, replace the power supply, and replace the existing thermal paste. The new fans were purchased from Supermicro. The new power supply was purchased from eBay. I picked up the thermal paste from my local Micro Center. I decided to take the project on since moving to a 1 bedroom apartment. The noise level of this server was just too annoying to have in my kitchen. By upgrading the power supply and the internal fans, I cut the decibel level of the server in half. While performing this upgrade, I decided it would be a good idea to replace the exiting thermal paste and clean out the internal components and drives. Parts purchased for this upgrade: 1x Thermal Paste (Optional) - 5x Supermicro 80mm Hot-Swappable Middle Axial Fan (FAN-0104L4) - 1x Supermicro PWS-920P-SQ 920W 1U - Before the upgrade the server was producing noise at about 80 db. After the upgrade, the noise level was dropped to about 45 db.

Now, the company has 4U, 6U, and 8U SuperBlade solutions. One may think they are simply different sizes, but it turns out that each system is tailored for specific applications.
