Как правило я говорю потому, что можно встретить и гибридные решения, где встречается и регистраторы, и серверы с VMS. Но это скорее исключения. В чем корневая разница между этим двумя решениями я рассказывал в прямом эфире "Регистратор или сервер+софт": Сегодня же у нас стоит задача обновления сервера на одном из Объектов нашего давнего Заказчика, соответственно пока сервер в офисе на преднастройке, я решил снять небольшой гайд/обзор/рассказ о правильном (на мой взгляд) сервере для видеонаблюдения. Правильный сервер дает несколько преимуществ: 1. Повышает эффективность системы видеонаблюдения: есть вычислительный ресурс для работы всевозможных "внешних" аналитических модулей, множественные варианты транскодирования видео для всевозможных клиентов (от видеостены, через смартфоны, SmartTV, html браузеры, домофоны и до специализированных устройств "умный дом", raspberry и т.д.).. 2. Повышает отказоустойчивость системы - резервировать можно блоки питания (подавать независимые силовые линии от разных поставщиков электроэнергии), данные - отказоустойчивость поднимается за счет использования RAID массивов как для видеоархива, так и для системных разделов. Естественно, сами винчестеры можно менять "на ходу", не останавливая работу системы. Системы видеонаблюдения на основе сервера + ПО (VMS) используют как в критических отраслях, где важна безостановочная работы (банки, крупные промышленные объекты), так и просто на Объектах с большим числом камер, поскольку построенная на регистраторах крупная территориально-распределенная система оказывается по сути множеством маленьких систем видеонаблюдения на одном Объекте. Серверы (вообще) условно делятся на "классы": - премиум бренды А-класса (IBM, DELL, HP, Lenovo и т.д.) со своими старшими/средними/лоу-кост линейками; - бренды B-класса (по-проще/доступнее), например Supermicro; - самосбор (из серверных комплектующих); - самосбор (из десктопных комплектующих). Все 4 варианта уместны, все 4 встречаются в жизни. У всех решений свои плюсы, свои минусы. Но очень часто бывают ситуации, что самосбор на серверных комплектующих практически равен по цене готовому решению из B-класса. Поэтому мы уже лет 7-8 не устанавливаем "самосбор", и наши Заказчики спокойно покупают у нас правильные решения. Периодически работаю и с А-классом, хочу вкратце показать возможности данного оборудования на примере интерфейса Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC). Контроллер iDRAC — это аппаратный компонент, который находится на материнской плате сервера и позволяет системным администраторам обновлять и контролировать системы Dell, даже когда сервер выключен. Контроллер iDRAC также обеспечивает веб-интерфейс и интерфейс командной строки, позволяя администраторам выполнять задачи удаленного управления. Вариант с iDRAC предлагается почти для всех текущих серверов Dell. В А-классе часто можно встретить необходимость доплаты за данный функционал, т.е. производители в базе могут предлагать "базовую версию", а за доплату - расширенную. Например, у DELL это будет "iDRAC Express" и "iDRAC Enterprise", у Hewlett-Packard это "iLo" и "iLo Advanced" и т.д. В некоторых модельных линейках расширенная версия может быть в базе, а в некоторых (low-cost модельные ряды) отсутствовать вовсе. Сегодня у нас столе iDRAC Enterprise и я расскажу о его некоторых (далеко не всех) фишках. The Dell Poweredge R720 requires some extra care when installing a NVIDIA Tesla K80. Since the K80 requires EPS 12V power you can't use the standard GPU power cable. If you use the Dell 9H6FV GPU power cable you will short 12V to ground and risk damaging hardware. These power caveats also apply to other Tesla cards such as the Tesla M40. Dell PowerEdge R720 servers are part of the 12th Generation. This 2U server supports 2 x Intel E5-2600 V1 or V2 series CPUs (LGA2011 socket). The R720 server is the next gen to the popular Dell PowerEdge R710 server. There are 24 memory slots operating with DDR3 memory architecture. There are two types of RAM supported by the R720: ECC Registered (RDIMM) and Load Reduced (LRDIMM). The big difference is the maximum configuration. With ECC Reg, the max amount of memory is 512GB via (16 x 32GB) DDR3 PC3-12800R 1600MHz Server Memory. However, LRDIMMs will provide triple the capacity with a max of via (24 x 64GB) DDR3 PC3-12800L 1600MHz Server Memory. This brings up a lot of questions. Why can you only use 16 x 32GB ECC Reg? Why can’t we put in 24 DIMMs? It is called the Rank Rule and we will explain the answer in depth in the video. People also wonder – Does 64GB DDR3 ECC Registered memory exist? Unfortunately it does not and was never invented for DDR3 ECC Reg. Only LRDIMMs support 64GB DIMMs. There are 2 CPUs. Each CPU operates 3 Memory Channels. And each memory channel has three DIMM slots per memory channel. Note: This is the key reason the Rank Rule becomes an issue for ECC Registered 32GBs, because all 32GB DDR3 DIMMs are Quad Rank. The memory channel are labeled and color coded. You can locate the start of the channel with the white DIMM slot. Black is the second DIMM in the channel followed by green. The proper configuration for 2 CPUs would be duplicates of 8 evenly spread across each channel (only using the white slots). We will discuss this in more depth in our video and also demonstrate how to actually load the DIMMs inside your Dell PowerEdge R720 server. This guide covers the following servers: R220 R320 R420 R520 R620 R720 R720XD R820 R920 T320 T420 T620 This may also cover the M series of blade servers, such as the M420, M520, M620, and M820, however, I am not sure on this. This method assumes that you have an internet connection with access to Dell’s FTP site. This requires that a network cable is connected to one of the NIC cards in the system and not just the dedicated iDRAC port. You will need to either connect to the server via the iDRAC virtual console or the old fashioned way with a VGA monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Depending on how old the various firmwares on your server are, this method may not work. If it does not, please see the video linked in the description to update your server using a Dell provided ISO. To start, we will need to boot into the Lifecycle Controller. This can be done by pressing F10 at the BIOS screen and then waiting for it to load in. If you are using iDRAC7 or 8, you can instruct the server to automatically boot into the Lifecycle Controller by launching the virtual console, clicking on Next Boot and then selecting the Lifecycle Controller. It can take a few minutes, so please be patient. Now that we are in the Lifecycle Controller, it is a good idea to first ensure that the network is setup. Click on Settings and then Network Settings. Select the NIC that your network cable is connected to from the dropdown menu and then make sure it is getting an IP address. Once you have set everything up, click on the Finish button and then OK to apply your settings. Now that we are back to the home of the Lifecycle Controller, click on Firmware Update and then Launch Firmware Update. Ensure that FTP server is selected and then click Next. Leave the default settings on the Access Details page unless you need to configure a proxy server. Click Next. The Lifecycle Controller is now going to query the Dell FTP and compare the firmware versions on your server with the latest versions available. Once it completes, you will be presented with this screen that shows you which components have firmware updates available. The ones that are available will be automatically checked. All you need to do now is click Apply and it will begin installing the new firmwares automatically. The server may need to reboot a few times to install the updates, so give it some time to complete. If you come back to the Lifecycle Controller homepage, I would recommend running the update one more time to make sure everything is fully updated. If you run into any issues, my best suggestion would be to either post on the Dell forums or at Both sites have helpful communities that can get you the answers you need. Here is a link to the manual update ISO's. Boot from these if you have trouble using the Lifecycle Controller. Make sure to download the one from the most recent date. Run the Lifecycle Controller update afterwards to ensure you have the latest firmwares.

This video is the third and last in a series of 3 videos where I will show you how you can upgrade the storage subsystem of the Dell PowerEdge R820. And, since the R820 shares the chassis with the R720, this upgrade will also work with the PowerEdge R720. In this third part, I will take our upgrade path to the next level with NVMe PCIe SSDs in the R820 and R720 that originally only came with SAS-2 hardware. This upgrade kit is an official Dell kit that installs 4 NVMe U.2 SSDs in one of the 2.5" 8-bay drive cages with an NVMe backplane. Configure 11TB RAID6, then install OS using the Dell Lifecycle controllers "Deploy OS" function. The reason for using this method is that it will slipstream in the appropriate drives for your OS. Saves you the task of hunting down individual drivers on the Dell website and installing them one at a time. Once completed your device manager should not show any exceptions (exclamation points).
