This is a test of the Tokina 12-28mm f/4 DX Lens. Reason, I did this video is, there are only a few videos of this lens on the YouTube. IMO a very underrated lens. This lens is currently the latest offering for wide angle APS-C from TOKINA Kenko corporation. It has a constant aperture of f/4, and the widest zoom range of all APS-C wide angle lenses. In this very short video, I shoot time lapse in low light, and sunrise. The chromatic aberration or color fringing is easily managed by using aperture f/8 + and in Lightroom without any image degradation. The lens flare is not as pronounced as I expected or what reviewers have noted. And, wide open at f/4 the image quality drop off in the corners is not bad; much less than I expected. In this video I was a bit out of focus at f/4 to see how much difference the corner and edges were compared to the center. IMO the sweet spot of this lens is f/8 to f/11. Great sharpness across the image. Here's a link to Part 2 my video test of this lens Equipment: Nikon D3300, Tokina 12-28mm f/4 DX, tripod, and intervalometer. Adobe Lightroom 5 PowerDirector Ultimate Suite 12 Pros: (in the order I value most) Great zoom range 12-28mm. Great image quality sharp, good flare performance. Good performing f/4 aperture. Good Auto Focus, dead on accurate, and easy to manual focus. Good solid build quality, smooth focus ring and zoom 77mm filters. The Price. Easily one of the best value ultra wide lenses. Cons: Heavy 530g, although the lightest of Tokina's wide angles. Chromatic Aberration in very high contrast lighting at f/4. As bad as cheap prime lenses wide open. I've only used this in low light, and it may have some horrific purple and green color fringing, the same type you get from cheap prime lenses. If you shoot outdoors in mid-day sun stop the aperture down to f/8, and problems solved. Once you get to f/8 the color fringe AKA Chromatic Aberration is minimal and non-existent. I'm not new to Ultra Wide angle lenses. I shoot them all the time, and this is my 3rd one. Tokina 12-28mm is a decent performing lens, and my short experience with it is mostly all positive. In fact, I'm impressed by the performance and image quality of this lens. It's much better than I had ever expected. The only downer about this lens is the massive color fringe at f/4 in bright contrast scenes. But, I mostly use wide angles for huge depth of field, that f/8 to f/22. As for weight, the lens has a lot of glass and metal, 14 elements. That's more than the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, yet still a few grams lighter. This lens I have is a Nikon mount, this 12-24 comes in many various mounts such as Canon,Pentax variants. They all share the same lens and behave the same way, so, this review should be valid for other mounts also. So the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 is a wide-angle lens for people who don't want to spend thousands or the brand name ones like Nikon's 12-24. Or even, Sigma's 12-24. I believe this lens is an amazing alternative to those brands for in some cases, half the price! Can't beat that. This lens comes with a very large Lens Hood and has a 77mm mount. It can accept any kind of filter and in my personal use, none of them vignette. Like said in the video, this lens does distort on the edges, but, as does any wide-angle! It's not too bad when shooting things like a review or family shoot. I don't mind it at all. The Tokina has a constant aperture of f/4 all the way through the zoom range and is great for when you don't have all that much light. And, when zooming-in-out in video, photo, your exposure will never change! That's nice too. I like the finish of this lens, it's got a smooth but rough-at-the-same-time kind of texture too it. Tokina atx-m 85mm F/1.8 FE - портретный объектив Тест и обзор после месяца использования. Объектив Tokina atx-m 85mm F/1.8 FE - классический полнокадровый портретник. Он показывает результаты примерно посередине между оригинальными Sony 85 1.8 и Sony 85 Мне особенно понравилась цветопередача. Боке тут тоже вполне себе отличное. Немного расстроила нестабильность работы АФ, но это простительно, тем более, что Tokina обычно выпускает обновлённые пошивки для своей оптики. Можно рекомендовать и новичкам, и профессионалам, и видеографам - конструкция буквально неубиваемая цельнометаллическая. READ THE REVIEW HERE Buy the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 II for Canon Here; Buy the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 II for Nikon Here; by Darren Miles Naples, FL Photographer Are you a Real Estate Photographer? Or do you just need to somehow fit it all in? Either way the Tokina 11-16mm ATX-Pro f/2.8 (Street $599) is an excellent option! The reputation of this lens precedes it, it was extremely difficult to find shortly after its release. And for good reason. At the time of its release, there were limited choices for APS-C sensor cameras for wide angle photography. (I'm a Canon shooter, so the focus of this review assumes that you too are a Canon user - more specifically, a user of a Canon cropped frame body - the Rebel Series, the XXD - 40D, 50D, etc series and the 7D) - when Tokina released this lens, there were primarily two true competitors - Canon's EF-S 10-22mm and the Sigma 10-20. What differentiated the Tokina was it's f/2.8 Aperture - which in addition to being a wide angle, it was also useful in low light situations. On to the review; BUILD QUALITY: Top notch! Built like a tank, the focus and zoom rings are well damped and smooth as butter. Tokina utilizes a one of a kind focus clutch mechanism which allows you to push and pull the entire focus ring to enable/disable the autofocus. Tokina smartly includes a lens hood - Canon take notice, this lens is built better, costs less and includes a hood. A very, very solid effort, the build quality is consistent across the Tokina line. FOCUS SPEED AND ACCURACY: Tokina utilizes a micro motor, which means focus speed is sufficient - not fast, but certainly not slow - its definitely NOT ultrasonic. However, if you're a real estate photographer, speed of focus is one of the items that will concern you the least. Focus accuracy - though not lightening fast - is dead on. However, at this wide of an angle, most of the shots are taken from infinity focus anyway. OPTICAL QUALITY: Excellent, with one major caveat. You'll find the Tokina very sharp in the center of the frame, typical of most wide angle lenses, as you get further from the center of the image, quality tends to suffer. This phenomena is also true of the Tokina, it is however, sharper than the Canon 10-22 and the Sigma 10-20 on the edges. The caveat for the Tokina is in the area of Chromatic Aberration, its very noticeable in high contrast situations. E.g. - in real estate, where the windows meet the outside - a high contrast situation - you're going to see a 2 or 3 pixel wide purple line where inside meets outside. Fortunately, with the latest versions of both Lightroom and Aperture, this is relatively easy to fix. But it is a defect that you'll need to know about when you go to purchase this lens, be prepared to work the CA's in post. However, apart from the CA issue, the Tokina is a SHARP, SHARP lens, optically superior to its competitors - based on this writers experience. On top of the optical quality, the Tokina has the distinct advantage of an f/2.8 aperture - making it ideal in low light event situations. Think a wedding shot getting the entire crowd into a photo. Most real estate shooters will be shooting during the day, utilizing a tri-pod and probably will be up around f/8 or f/9. Making the f/2.8 of the Tokina a little less relevant. CONCLUSION: If you're shooting real estate there are now several choices in this focal length today that compete with the Tokina. For example the new Sigma 8-16mm, which has received generally excellent reviews across the board. The aforementioned Canon EF-S 10-22 and Sigma 10-20. The Tokina is built better than all of them, and based on personal experience as good as the Canon is, the Tokina is that much better. I actually sold my Canon 10-22 to purchase the Tokina. My colleague uses the Sigma 10-20 and he gets great results from that lens. Though, his is sharper on the left side of the frame than the right... In a nutshell; BUILD QUALITY: 10/10 FOCUS SPEED AND ACCURACY: 8/10 - slow, but VERY accurate OPTICAL QUALITY: 9/10 - fantastic, with the exception of high CA's QUALITY OF RESULTS: 9/10 VALUE: 9/10 OVERAL 45/50 - Highly Recommend!! FINAL WORD: If you're a real estate photographer who uses an APS-C sensor camera who wants the sharpest possible results, then this is your lens. It can also be used on the full frame 5D and 5D Mark ii cameras at 15 and 16mm with only the slightest bit of vignetting - the results are equally impressive. Its little wonder why this lens was such a hit for Tokina! Its an excellent lens.
