Hello YouTubers . Nikon 85mm f1.8 G prime lens versus Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 Art zoom lens !!!! Why do I use Sigma art zooms ??? In this video I would like to share with you the results of the test I made between these two lenses . It is kind of an unfair comparison , because the Nikon 85mm 1.8 G is a prime and the Sigma Art is a zoom but in the same time I was very curious about the results so I did the test . My plan is that next time I will test the Nikon 85mm f1.4 G lens , which is a famous lens by the way , with the Sigma 50-100 art zoom on 85mm . You can buy the Sigma 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM Art on Amazon - *You can find large versions of all the images from this video in the full article on LensVid - link below) We recently published our review of the Nikon D500. When we tested the camera we used it mostly with the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 which makes for a very powerful combination. This review reflects over a month of use with this very interesting and truly innovative lens. Everybody was surprised when Sigma announced the 18-35mm f/1.8 ART lens a few years back. No other manufacturer had (or since then released) anything like it and it finally gave APS-C shooters a truly fast pro grade zoom lens they can enjoy and it was widely used ever since for both stills and video (now there is also a Cine version of it as we have seen in Photokina 2016 and you can see in the video as well). Since then Sigma released other ART lenses but many users were waiting for the longer sister to the 18-35mm and earlier this year Sigma came through with the 50-100mm f/1.8. Some compare both lenses to the 24-70mm and 70-200mm full frame due - but they are actually kind of different - the Sigma are both 2X zoom lenses while the full frame versions are closer to 3X and despite their superior light gathering capabilities of the Sigma 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM Art lens - in term of background blurring on a full frame vs. APS-C the results are pretty close. Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens 4K Video Test This is the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 Art Series 4K Video Test. Sigma Art series has been one of my favorite series lens. I like their extra aperture lens idea. It works really well on crop sensor cameras such as the Sony A7RII (In video mode). I don’t normally talk about behind the scene. But this video I have to say, it was the longest video test I have ever done. I did not mean the video length. I mean this lens took me over 2 months to work on it. In November last year, I went to Melbourne for a wedding shoot. And after the wedding shoot, I spent over few days in Melbourne to work on this Sigma 50-100mm lens video test. First, I have to mention that I always shoot S-log on my videos. So this Sigma 50-100mm is just the same. I set the camera in S-log 2 and I put the ND filter as usual. Because A7RII does not have camera colour assist. So when it comes to focus, it’s just very hard. And as you may know, the zoom in focus and peaking are kind of useless when shooting S-log, everything looks like in focus. I see all he red line on the peaking. But when you put it up on your computer. They are just very soft. Over 50% of my video was out of focus. So I had to go back to Melbourne again in December to re-shoot most of my shots. I know I should not be complaining too much because this lens isn’t the Sony native lens. So you can’t really rely on the auto focus. But one thing I have to say, when its in focus, the image is just very lovely, its really sharp. The image quality won’t let you down. But the only down side is the weight. This lens is very heavy. If the lens had the build in IS. Then I would accept the weight. But no IS and no weather sealed and still . That’s a bit overkill.
