This is my visual review of the capabilities of the Panasonic Leica 100-400mm telephoto lens. This lens is the perfect travel companion for those that require more reach and focal range. Some will say that it's only Micro Four Thirds, the low light performance is terrible, you can't get depth of field and so on... This lens has been with me on every trip since 2017 and I can honestly say that I would not have achieved most of the photographs featured in the video without it. The focal range is 100-400mm M4/3 format. This equates to 200-800mm in full frame terms. The lens weighs less than 1kg and is under 200mm in length. This is quite a remarkable feat of engineering considering the 800mm equivalent focal distance. When paired with the Panasonic G9 the lens makes use of the in-body stabilisation of the camera. When combined with its own optical stabilisation, the system provides up to 6.5 stops of anti-shake compensation. This produces sharp results during hand held operation throughout the entire focal range and at slower shutter speeds. This making it a great choice for video as well as photography. The lens is probably at its peak performance when paired with the G9. The compactness, weight and portability factors means it can be taken everywhere and anywhere allowing previously out of reach subjects to be seen in sharp detail. For me it is the perfect travel/wildlife/nature lens combination. There are some limitations mentioned earlier but once they have been considered and you use this lens to it's strengths, and not its weaknesses, there really is no problem.
