Today I want to do a quick review and share my experience about the Panasonic Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8, the first version. It is not the kind of lens that I frequently use, but when I got the chance to force myself to use this lens a few days ago, the lens performed really well and was really inspiring and made me think about new composition and usage for the lens creatively. It is a professional lens, with weather sealing and high grade build quality. As an equivalent 70-200mm in Micro Four Thirds, it is intended to be a zoom portrait lens, documentary lens, wedding and pre-wedding photography lens, as well as just an awesome mid telephoto lens to use for product photography, and studio kind of shots. There's a newer mark II version of this lens, but the older version works just as fine as the newer one. I am not sponsored by anyone, all products featured in this video were purchased by me. My thoughts and experience using the Panasonic Lumix 35-100 lens. I use this lens a lot as it has the constant F2.8 aperture and being Micro Four Thirds the lens is very compact for a telephoto lens. Lumix DMC-G7 with G X Vario 35-100mm f/2.8 lens (original version H-HS35100) which has the latest version 1.3 lens firmware. It is so frustrating and unreliable to never know when the jitter will happen. Today, while shooting handheld videos, I encountered the dreaded micro jitter problem again. I used DaVinci Resolve's Optical Flow frame interpolation to upscale from the G7's 2160p30 to 2160p60 which helps to reduce the micro jitter. However, there can be visual artifacts in the scene. I've seen antialiasing like artifacts. I've seen artifacts resulting from moving objects in the scene. I have successfully shot handheld videos before, such as Since handheld videos are not steady enough anyway, I tend to avoid doing so. In the past, shooting videos on a tripod has resulted in micro jitters but the version 1.3 firmware has improved the situation with less jitter occurrence. I recently purchased a Zhiyun Crane gimbal which I intend to use for all my serious video recording work. I ordered the G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 lens (new version H-HSA12035) which is more suitable for the types of gimbal shots I intend to shoot. On the positive side, I get great photos out of the 35-100mm lens. One suspicion which I will try to test and experiment with is whether the micro jitters are related to shutter speed. Today's video clips were shot at f/2.8 to achieve a shallow depth of field. As a result of the bright sunlit environment, I had shutter speed upwards of 1/4000s with ISO 200.

Playing it safe with wide angle 🥱! Let's learn about the distinct advantages of longer focal lengths so we can broaden our filmmaking skills and capture shots to enhance the stories we tell. Over recent years, I've found myself falling into the trap, which I believe a lot of us filmmakers fall into, of always reaching to the same old wide/medium range lenses, such as 35mm, 50mm and 85mm. Whilst this set of lenses produces lovely results, I realised that I was missing out on a completely different type of shot, that could massively benefit the films I produce. If you look closely when watching many Hollywood movies, that longer focal lengths are use A LOT! The DoPs often choose these lenses to fulfil a particular purpose in terms of the story or to helps us to sympathise with a character, or view them in a particular way. In today's video I set myself the challenge of shooting a whole cinematic sequence with my @PanasonicUK Lumix GH5 using only focal lengths of 100mm or greater. I want to learn about what types of shots you can achieve with them, the advantages that they provide and also the challenges you encounter when using them. Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 VS Canon EF 70-200mm f/ IS II USM (Which one is better?) This is the Panasonic 35-100mm Lumix G Vario f/2.8 lens VS Canon EF 70-200mm f/ IS II USM lens video test. The reason why I'm doing this test. Because I really want to see which one performs better. Each lens has their Pros and Cons. Lets break down the difference. (I only comparing the video side) Panasonic 35-100mm Pros Super light weight (Only 360g) Much cheaper price than Canon one (Full set up with GH3 and lens around US$2500) Panasonic 35-100mm Cons Panasonic f/2.8 lens works out f/5.6 on full frame Power Optical Image Stabilization (Only 3 stops comparing with Canon one) Canon 70-200mm Pros Amazing quality (Like prime lens quality) 4 stops Image Stabilization with controls at the side Canon 70-200mm Cons Super heavy and big (Never use it for holiday shoot) Too expensive (Full set up with 5D Mark III and lens cost over US$6000) Over all I think the video quality looked very similar. Perhaps Canon might give little bit nicer "Depth of field". But if you also me which one will I pick? I think I will pick the Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 lens, not just because of cheaper price. It is because of the size and weight. There were so many times I left the 70-200mm lens at home for vacation. But let say if you are using for work, you need better Image Stabilization or better low light. Then 70-200mm will never disappointed you. This is the Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 Lumix G Vario lens video test. I shot this video with my Panasonic DMC-GH3 (Filmed with Neutral color setting). This is my second favorited lens after the 12-35mm f/2.8. Not just because of focal length and image stabilization. It is because this lens is "Parfocal", which you only need to focus your subject once. Then you don't need to refocus when you zoom in or out. Plus the constant f/2.8 aperture gives you very decent low light performance. And it won't dark in when you zoom. It is super handy for video shooting. I really enjoy using this lens.
