Environmental threats in your server room can cause a lot more damage than hardware or software problems. Redundant hardware, backup tapes, UPS battery arrays, generators and other fault-tolerance measures can all be rendered useless if your server room overheats or floods. Don't ignore environmental threats – remotely manage them with a Server Environment Monitoring System or Intelligent Power Distribution Control Unit via TCP/IP Ethernet protocol over CAT5 through an RJ45 connector. Monitor Temperature: The most common environmental threat in any server room or wiring closet is heat. Detect critical rises or drops in temperature, and receive notifications when heating problems occur. Monitor Humidity: Detect abnormal humidity conditions. You define the humidity levels that are appropriate for each sensor's environment. Detect the Presence of Water: Whether it's a tripped sprinkler system or a flash flood, a server room or wiring closet is just about the last place you want to see water. Receive notification as soon as water makes an appearance. Monitor Physical Security : Monitor "dry-contact" devices including motion sensors, door sensors, vibration sensors and smoke detectors. Control Power: Remotely reboot and control power (on/off) to servers and network devices.

Air quality is getting worse worldwide, especially in cities with high population density and many industrial parks. Raising community awareness and applying science and technology are effective ways to mitigate the negative impacts of industrialization and pollution on the natural environment as well as public health. This work presents the design and deployment of an IoT-based air quality monitoring system, named the Environmental Monitoring System (EnMoS). LoRa (Long-Range) wireless communication technology and innovation sensors being used aim to facilitate the development of data communication network over a large-area, improving sensing reliability, extending battery life as well as reducing total system costs. The air quality factors such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), carbon dioxide (CO2), air temperature and humidity, after being read from the sensors were uploaded to a real-time database serves for Air Quality Index (AQI) calculations. In addition, for indicating conveniently obtained AQI values a webpage is also developed to provide an interactive map along with corresponding charts. A case study on an actual LoRa network consisting of three sensing nodes and a gateway was conducted for validating the feasibility of the system. Community-based environmental monitoring is when groups of people or communities collect information to create new knowledge. These people can be in the same geographic location or spread all over the world. In many cases, these activities use personal devices or sensors, like apps on a mobile phone, to help people collect and upload the data online. There is also often a collaborative feature to the online platforms. For example, they might use chat forums so that people can discuss the data they are collecting, how they are doing it, and what they are discovering from their activities. Some projects encourage people to get together. For example, if a community in the same geographic area is collecting information on an environmental issue experienced locally, they can have weekly “meet-ups” where they discuss the challenges they face or share exciting insights or news.
