The 42 mm case in stainless steel is presented on a blue nylon fabric strap, which features the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission on the embossed lining. The silver dial has blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands, as well as an embossed silver Snoopy medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock. On the NAIAD LOCK caseback, a vision of the far side of the moon has been decorated on the sapphire crystal using micro-structured metallisation. An animated Snoopy in his Command and Service Module (CSM) is shown on a magical hand, which rotates when the chronograph function is used. Behind, an Earth disc rotates once per minute in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand. Along with black engravings on the caseback in tribute to Apollo 13 and OMEGA's Silver Snoopy Award, there is also a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The non-limited watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, and comes in a special presentation box. The 2021 Omega Speedmaster Professional Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary is one of the most coveted luxury watches available. This watch collector’s guide by Tim Mosso provides an in-depth review of the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy III, discusses the history of Omega’s chronograph and NASA spaceflight, the origin of the Silver Snoopy award, and suggests alternative watches for collectors who are considering the newest Speedmaster Professional. As the third edition of the Omega Speedmaster Apollo XIII anniversary series, this Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy is both highly anticipated and heavily waitlisted. Omega’s first Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy” was a 2003 model year limited edition of 5,441 pieces. Although modestly modified from the standard Speedmaster chronograph, this model has become highly collectible since the 2015 arrival of the blockbuster second edition. That model, the Apollo 13 45th Anniversary edition, was a more exclusive limited series of 1,970 pieces. More importantly, the “Silver Snoopy 2” included a memorable “Peanuts”-inspired white dial and a caseback with grand feu enamel overlaid with a hand-engraved sterling silver “Snoopy” figure. For 2020, Omega announced the Speedmaster Professional Silver Snoopy 50th Anniversary chronograph watch. Special edition features include a new sterling silver dial with blue highlights and a laser-engraved image of Snoopy the Beagle. Applied hour indices and matching blue hands add upscale appeal under a sapphire crystal. Caseback features include a metallic-deposited image of the Moon overlaid on a celestial background. The Earth spins continuously; a NASA command and service module orbits the Moon whenever the chronograph is running. Naturally, Snoopy is depicted as the pilot of the spacecraft. Every detail counts, so Omega adds a representation of Apollo 13’s successful return flight path underneath the leather strap. While the Omega caliber 3861 is standard on all Speedmaster Professionals for 2021, it remains a new addition by Moonwatch standards. Originally previewed by the 2019 Apollo XI 50th Anniversary model, the 3861 is the first Lemania-based Omega Speedmaster movement with a co-axial escapement. More than that, the new caliber includes a METAS Master Chronometer certification, a free sprung balance, an antimagnetic silicon hairspring, and hacking seconds. The power reserve of the caliber 3861 increases from 48 to 50. Water resistance remains 50 meters. The Omega Silver Snoopy 50th Anniversary boxed set is custom designed with exclusive features. A color-matching blue outer box gives way to a blue textile inner display case featuring the Silver Snoopy logo as a mission patch with the motto, “Eyes on The Stars.” Several warranty, chronometer, and Omega pictogram cards are included along with Snoopy-blazon custom polishing cloth. Omega adds a handsomely illustrated book detailing the history of the Speedmaster Professional with NASA, the Silver Snoopy award, and the series of Silver Snoopy watches leading up to the current model. Naturally, demand for the Omega Snoopy is sky-high. Those who are able to place orders at authorized dealers will wait weeks to months for their opportunities to pay a retail price of $9,600 to own this Moonwatch. Watch collectors seeking instant gratification will pay up to $30,000 to buy the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy as a preowned watch. That's right, for the first time ever, the brand has released a non-limited edition Snoopy Speedy. For many collectors who missed out on the other two references - released in 2003 and 2015 - this is an exciting opportunity to own a part of the history that Omega and NASA share, a history that was first celebrated 50 years ago. But while the news of the normal production run is big, what the watch itself has to offer is also significant. The silver dial contrasts strongly against the navy blue sub-dials and bezel, and the 42mm stainless-steel case serves up everything you would expect from a modern Speedmaster. But the party really starts when you look at the caseback, where Omega have built a mechanical animation that shows Snoopy circling the moon in his own lunar module. This is a complication we've never seen from Omega before and we're thrilled they've decided to use the depth of their watchmaking knowledge to bring to life one of the most beloved cartoon characters of the last half-century. But the Silver Snoopy Award also signifies a critical moment in the space race of the 1960s, when Omega watches helped to save the lives of American astronauts. Here, he is shown wearing his famous spacesuit, in the exact style of the silver pin that NASA astronauts give to award recipients. The dial is manufactured in silver and laser-engraved with Ag925. It includes two more blue subdials, as well as blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands. On the case-back, the fun begins! So cool... This time, Snoopy has gone into orbit, thanks to his animated black and white Command and Service Module (CSM) on a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is in use, Snoopy takes a trip around the mysterious far side of the moon – just like the Apollo 13 crew – with the lunar surface being decorated on the sapphire crystal using a unique micro-structured metallisation. In the distance, a vision of our home is included. This Earth disc rotates once per minute, in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand, and symbolises the precise rotation of the Earth. The iconic quote, #EyesontheStars is included within the black universe. The #NAIADLOCK keeps all case-back engravings in the correct, upright position, including the date in 1970 that Omega received the Silver Snoopy Award, as well as a tribute to the imperiled Apollo 13 mission that same year. The watch’s blue nylon fabric strap matches the other blue elements of the watch, and even features the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission, embossed on the lining. This strap is attached to a 42 mm case in stainless steel, which is inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster style (the first watch worn on the moon in 1969). The tachymeter scale, with the iconic “Dot over Ninety”, is shown in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring. The Speedmaster comes with a full 5-year warranty, and will NOT be a limited production. The watch comes in its own Apollo 13 presentation box, with a microfiber cleaning cloth, a brochure, and a magnifying glass to help you get up close to the details. CASE Case: Steel Case Diameter: 42 mm Lug-to-Lug: 47 mm Height: 14,47 mm Dial Colour: Silver WATER RESISTANCE 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet) CRYSTAL Domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides CALIBRE Omega 3861, manual-winding chronograph movement with Co-Axial escapement. Free-sprung balance with silicon balance spring. Rhodium-plated finish, bridges with straight Geneva waves. The power reserve is 50 hours. The #Calibre3861 is the successor of the legendary #Calibre1861 ... Omega was determined to produce a movement that could be Master Chronometer certified, yet perfectly match the dimensions of the 1861. That meant finding a way to fit all of the new state-of-art componentry into a space more suited to an older movement. A challenge certainly, as the 3861 has 240 components compared to the 1861's 234, but Omega's engineers were up to the task, improving power reserve, chronometric performance and magnetic resistance. Daily deviations were improved from -1/+11 seconds to now 0/+5 seconds, and a stop second function was added, allowing the wearer to stop the seconds hand with a pull of the crown and reset the time with absolute precision. Thanks to 21st century machining, it was also possible for Omega's engineers to subtly reshape the teeth of the wheels, which allowed for tighter contacts and smoother running. As a tribute to the 1861, the new movement's frequency remained the same (21,600 A/h). However, the jewel tally was increased from 18 to 26, as eight extra jewels were needed for the upgrade. Half of them to ensure the smooth running of the #CoAxialEscapement which had replaced the more traditional Swiss Anchor escapement and four more for general technical improvements. Another significant change was the complete removal of the frequency regulator. As a moving part, the tiny lever added to the risk of accidental frequency shifts, so the decision was made to do without it. On the new Calibre 3861, this was replaced by four adjustable screws on the balance wheel. Thanks to the inclusion of Omega's Co-Axial escapement and silicon Si14 balance spring, the Calibre 3861 offers extraordinary levels of magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss, and is able to pass the industry's toughest tests and achieve Master Chronometer certification. #Omega #Speedmaster #Snoopy This is the second episode of Alex’s tidbits. Of course, Snoopy is the star! I had the chance the get hands-on the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th anniversary. Since October 9th we already presented the Speedmaster chronograph in this video ( ), this one is pure fun. We show pictures of the Speedmaster you have not seen yet and I tell some stories about the watch… The Speedmaster is NOT a limited production. So getting one is possible… Probably not immediately, but with some passion you will have yours … 50 years ago, in 1970, Omega received the coveted #SilverSnoopyAward from the astronauts at #NASA recognizing the brand’s unique contributions to space exploration, as well as the Speedmaster’s vital support during the rescue of #Apollo13 Snoopy plays a prominent role within the new chronograph, first appearing as an embossed silver medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock. Here, he is shown wearing his famous spacesuit, in the exact style of the silver pin that NASA astronauts give to award recipients. The dial is manufactured in silver and laser-engraved with Ag925. It includes two more blue subdials, as well as blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands. This time, Snoopy has gone into orbit, thanks to his animated black and white #CommandandServiceModule (#CSM) on a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is in use, Snoopy takes a trip around the mysterious far side of the moon – just like the Apollo 13 crew – with the lunar surface being decorated on the sapphire crystal using a unique micro-structured metallization. The Earth disc rotates once per minute, in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand, and symbolizes the precise rotation of the Earth. The iconic quote, #EyesontheStars is included within the black universe. The #NAIADLOCK keeps all case-back engravings in the correct, upright position, including the date in 1970 that Omega received the Silver Snoopy Award, as well as a tribute to the imperiled Apollo 13 mission that same year. The 42 mm case in stainless steel, which is inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster (the first watch worn on the moon in 1969). The tachymeter scale, with the iconic “Dot over Ninety”, is shown in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring. The Speedmaster comes with a full 5-year warranty. The watch comes in its own Apollo 13 presentation box, with a microfiber cleaning cloth, a brochure, and a magnifying glass to help you get up close to the details. CASE Case: Steel Case Diameter: 42 mm Lug-to-Lug: 47 mm Height: 14,47 mm Dial Colour: Silver WATER RESISTANCE 50 metres / 167 feet CRYSTAL Domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides CALIBRE Omega 3861, manual-winding chronograph movement with Co-Axial escapement. Free-sprung balance with silicon balance spring. Rhodium-plated finish, bridges with straight Geneva waves. The power reserve is 50 hours. The #Calibre3861 is the successor of the legendary #Calibre1861 ... Omega was determined to produce a movement that could be Master Chronometer certified, yet perfectly match the dimensions of the 1861. That meant finding a way to fit all of the new state-of-art componentry into a space more suited to an older movement. A challenge certainly, as the 3861 has 240 components compared to the 1861's 234, but Omega's engineers were up to the task, improving power reserve, chronometric performance and magnetic resistance. Daily deviations were improved from -1/+11 seconds to now 0/+5 seconds, and a stop second function was added, allowing the wearer to stop the seconds hand with a pull of the crown and reset the time with absolute precision. As a tribute to the 1861, the new movement's frequency remained 21,600 A/h. However, the jewel tally was increased from 18 to 26, as eight extra jewels were needed for the upgrade. Half of them to ensure the smooth running of the #CoAxialEscapement which had replaced the more traditional Swiss Anchor escapement and four more for general technical improvements. Another significant change was the complete removal of the frequency regulator. As a moving part, the tiny lever added to the risk of accidental frequency shifts, so the decision was made to do without it. On the new Calibre 3861, this was replaced by four adjustable screws on the balance wheel. Thanks to the inclusion of Omega's Co-Axial escapement and silicon Si14 balance spring, the Calibre 3861 offers extraordinary levels of magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss, and is able to pass the industry's toughest tests and achieve Master Chronometer certification.
