I am checking out a brand new alcohol brush marker: The Arrtx Oros marker! Link to the 80 count on Amazon USA (affiliate link) (there is a $7 off coupon on that page so be sure to check it if purchasing!) *Also on amazon UK: 36 Skin Tone set: USA ($5 off coupon available on Amazon) UK: Overview: The new Arrtx Oros alcohol markers have the same color selection and marker body (except they are grey rather than white) as the Arrtx Alp markers but instead of a bullet/chisel nib they have a brush/chisel nib. Each set comes with gridded marker stands that will display your markers and keep them in order as well as a carry bag. Currently, they are available in the 80a assorted color range and the 36 skin tone range but they will eventually come out with all of the colors in the Arrtx Apl Range in the Oros format. My contact at Arrtx says they will either offer open stock markers or replacement nibs/ink refills in the future! Want more info on the Alp Markers? Here is my review of the 80a set with lots of color blend combos: Here is my review on the 36 skin and 24 grey set: Here is my overview of all the Alp sets and their configurations: Pros: *Price (around $1 per marker) *Nice color selection (My contact said they are planning to offer another skintone selection with darker colors in the future too) *Good ink flow *Blends well with little effort *Includes sturdy, reusable storage and display *Includes swatch sheet *Colors will appear lighter on this paper than other paper I have, it responds in tone like their marker pad which is very affordable, your colors will look lighter on it so if you like a pastel aesthetic give it a try: *Reversible nibs (if a brush nib starts to fray, pull it out and reinsert it) * High-quality matte plastic marker body. Comfortable to hold and non-roll *I found the caps easy to remove and replace. Cons: *Color chips on caps are not accurate, you should swatch on the paper you usually use *The bag for the 80 set is really tight and hard to access the markers when the grid is in there. I wish they had the extended zipper on the big case like they did for the small one to make it easy to access *fiber nibs *Markers are juicy and can release droplets of ink when uncapped so do not open over your work (brush nib) Bottom line: I like these markers and I think they are a good value. They feel like a quality product when you are using them. The 80 set is a good all-around selection for everyday use. The 80 colors set follows the Shinhan and Art-n-Fly color system so you can get refill inks and nibs there if needed. The Skintone set seems to follow the Copic colors system by color name (names are on the swatch so do not throw that paper away) so you can purchase refills that way until Arrtx comes out with their own. If you already have the original Arrtx Alp markers and would prefer a brush nib to a chisel nib you can pull out the chisel end and insert a brush nib. The Altenew nibs will fit (they use the same bodies) and they are a foam rubber nib that I prefer: *Keep in mind the nibs are $2 each and the Oros markers are only about $1 each. #thefrugalcrafter #watercolor #art Want more inspiration? Hello hello! I never really got to use alcohol makers that much but I had a blast using these Arrtx markers! I think the 80 set is very affordable compared to other brands but also I do not think a brush tip is necessary to colour some nice illustrations! Today we will look at the new Arrtx Alp Skin tone and Grey Tone Marker Sets. Skin tone: I reviewed the original Arrtix Alp 80 set of assorted markers here: *There is a coloring demo here with lots of blending options in that video if you want to see these markers in action. The marker body, nibs, and packaging are the same style as the original 80 set with the grey and skin tone marker boxes being smaller to hold the smaller sets. The markers feature a hart fine bullet tip and a broad chisel tip. You can replace the chisel nib for an Art-n-Fly brush nib if you prefer. Art-n-Fly Brush nib: (A pack of 3 is $) These are the foam-rubber nibs like Copic but they have a longer spigot like the Arrtx Alp chisel end has so they are a better fit and cheaper than copic. The skin tone set has 2 colorless blenders. I recommend using one for blending out colored pencils if you like to use pencil over your marker art as I do and keep the other for just markers. The grey set has one blender. Pros of the grey set: *With 10 shade of warm and cool grays, this is a very comprehensive set. *Great color selection and all are unique shades. *The box keeps them in order so you can easily find what you need. *An essential selection to any marker collection. *The set uses customary color numbers so you could easily purchase refills from another brand if they ran dry or make your own by purchasing the darkest value gray and diluting with blending solution. *note, these are meant to be disposable but you could definitely refill them and replace nibs from other brands with no issue. Cons: None Pros of skintone set: *Lots of light tones and cool undertones which are lacking from many sets. *Box keeps markers organized and in order *Color chips are a pretty good match but I still recommend making a swatch *Color names match Copic colors so you can easily purchase refills from Copic to refill your markers. Be sure to keep the included paper swatch as the markers only have Arrtx Alp proprietary numbers on them. You need the color names to find refills *Best for white or Asian skin tones Cons of skintone set: *Lack of darks with warm undertones for coloring black and brown skin tones. *I recommend the Ohuhu brush marker skin tone set or the Arteza portrait set for these richer earth tones *2 of the markers are colorless blenders rather than colors, that may be a con to some as really you only get 34 colors. Bottom line: The grey tones are awesome, the numbering system makes sense and you get all you would ever need. No guesswork. I really like the skin tone set as I tend to color lighter skin tones and cute animals with pale faces but I will reach for other markers when coloring darker skin tones. New Arrtx Alp Alcohol Marker Review PLUS Learn 15 Blending Combos & Color a Rainbow Flower Today I am reviewing the brand new Arrtx Alp Markers available in an 80 count set: (affiliate link used) *These markers were sent to me for free for review purposes. *Stamps used were Woodware "Picked for You" clear set: Overview: This set contains 79 colors plus a clear blender marker in an attractive storage box and carrying case that is designed to keep the double-ended markers flat. The markers feature a chisel and bullet nib and matte white plastic round barrels with color chips on each end. Pros: Price Good selection of color including several pastel shades Blends well comfortable to hold Comes with a case for storage Comes with a hand color swatch chart *although I still recommend swatching on the paper you usually use for correct color reference. Cons The color chips at the end of the markers are unreliable Some of the colors (by number) look different from the old Arrtx markers even though the numbers and names are the same. Not refillable (although I think these run on the Shinhan ink system so you could purchase Shinhan ink and refill them if you wanted to) The caps are a bit hard to remove Bottom Line: I was really excited to try these because I love and recommend the old-style Arrtx markers with the square cap on the chisel end: The old arrtx markers are a better deal too with the 80 count set selling for $6 less. The fine nib on the Alp is skinnier than the old arrtx one but it isn't a big difference in use. I think that the caps might be hard with people with arthritis or other strength issues although they do seem to loosen up with time. These markers are similar in quality to other alcohol markers in the same price point. The markers are really fun, but are they acrylic-based? Let's take a look! Today I am reviewing the 36 set of Arrtx dual-tip acrylic markers sold on Amazon: *I received these as a gift. I enjoyed using these markers for artwork on paper. At first, I used them to add details to mixed media paintings but I didn't find the coverage to be that good so I tried a painting with just the markers on white mixed media paper and it was awesome. They blended well and felt great to use. I could also reactivate and blend them with water, making me wonder if they were really acrylic. They seem like an opaque Tombow marker. Let's look at the pros and cons... Pros: *The come preactivated, no priming and pumping as with other acrylic pens *Blendable and rewetable (pro for me!) *Nice color variety *Brush nib is juicy, flexible and responsive. *The packaging is good storage Cons: *Not permanent /waterproof *The brush nib would be damaged if used on rough surfaces like rocks *Not fully opaque *No pigment or lightfast info *No open stock availability Bottom line: I reached out to the company with my findings that these were not waterproof and therefore not suitable for rock and ceramic painting and the nibs would be too fragile for use on rough surfaces. They said they will edit the description on Amazon. The ink in these markers reminds me of chalk ink or gouache. It didn't occur to me at first because typical chalk markers have hard scratchy nibs that are streaky but these markers are really smooth and fluid. If you are a chalk marker lover you will really like these as the ink can be wiped off non-porous surfaces with a wet cloth. As an acrylic paint pen, these are not great but as an art marker, they are wonderful. It's gouache in a pen! I also want to be clear, I don't know what binder is in these pens. There is no smell to them. I suppose it could have really diluted acrylic paint but I've never seen any acrylic product act like this. Still, I like them and will probably buy more when I run out. It occurred to me after recording this that these markers would be ideal for adult colors since the bullet tip it very small and the ink flows slower than other brands I've tried. Please read the review below for more info and resources I mentioned in the video! Arrtx had outdone themselves releasing a new line of alcohol-based markers this year under the name Alp. You can see the variety of markers they have here: some of the newer colors sets are not showing up on their store page so check here for the other sets: The Arrtx Alp markers have a slimmer rounded triangular barrel made of white matte plastic with color chips on each end. The arrtx name is printed on black on the marker and both end caps are labeled with a color number. You can see the color name and number on a hand color swatch that comes in the box. The box is designed to be permanent storage/display. The 90 color set has a plastic grid in the bottom of the box to keep the markers in the order you like while the other boxes have a cardboard grid that can bend if you are not careful. The 80 color set and skin tone set also had a metal clasp on the front but they have replaced that closer with a magnet of the other sets, an improvement I think as the clasp would get int eh way when setting the box up for display. The markers have a fine bullet tip and a standard chisel tip. The bullet tip is smaller and harder than the other markers I have used. I find the ink flow to be a bit slower in the Alp marker, that is not good or bad, just an observation. I also find many of the pastel-colored markers have color chops that are much darker so be sure to make a swatch. Ibeleivethat there are 200 unique colors in the line of Arrtx Alp Markers. You can get all of the colors if you buy the 80a, 90b and 36 skin tone sets. If you bought those sets the only duplicated you would get would be black and clear blenders. This would also include the 4 fluorescent colors, not in the color family sets. The prices range from about 60 cents a marker in the larger assorted backs to about 96 cents a marker in the color family packs so it is more affordable buying the big sets if you like them as all of the colors in the color family sets are in the 2 big sets. If you are unsure I would recommend starting with the skin tone set as none of those colors are duplicated in any other sets and then you can decide if you wanted to pick up the smaller sets as your budget allows or save up for the big sets. These markers are more expensive per marker than the original Arrtx markers or similar grade markers that run on the same color numbering system with the exception of Concept or ShinHan Touch. Here is a color chart of the Shinhan touch markers. I recommend printing one out to color by hand if you get these: *You may notice many maker lines use these inks, the color names and names match but you may find little discrepancies between brands. The alp markers appear lighter and I wonder if it might be the harder nibs restricting flow so the ink appears lighter. I had no issues blending these markers. You can refills for the markers here: and it is less expensive than copic. ***The skin tone set appears to run on Copic comparable colors if you go by the name of the color they are a perfect match for Copics of the same name. Hey Gang This week I did another Alcohol Marker review. As you know I love testing out different Marker brands. In this video I tested out the Arrtx Alp Alcohol Markers set B and give you a rundown of how they faired against their competitors.
