One of the least talked about tools, but also one of the most important, is the type of writing and marking instruments one uses. I use a 2mm mechanical pencil for marking on light surfaces. I choose to use a mechanical pencil because inevitably whenever I used a regular pencil, I could never find a sharpener. This is the upgraded mechanical pencil I have chosen based on many reviews from the artist community. While it is not cheap, it is certainly good. Rotring Isograph Which Nib Size Is Best For Drawing let's go ahead and take a look at these two pins in this the roaching isograph approaching isograph this one's got the yellow ring around it and this one has the red ring and i was asked about the nib sizes for these pens and which one i prefer to draw with or which one is most recommended now these are the two that i have i actually do have another one here but it's a different um pen this is by staedler and i did have a .25 but i was having problems with the nib on that one i think it was slightly bent just a little bit and i couldn't get it to draw i don't know how it got bent but the two that we're going to be looking at today is the and the so these are the two that i draw with and you might be wondering why does it not have it um well if i did have it i would show you if that the number the pin wasn't meant but the reason i have the and the is because the size of the nib between the here and the is very similar there's not much of a size difference between them and because of that i didn't really see the point in me um drawing with along with the so i went down to the a little bit smaller than the so what i'm drawing i use the here for i'd say most of the drawing maybe for you know filling in large areas and drawing the outlines of things um and filling in a lot of cross hatching now the is what i will use if i have areas that i want to put a lot of detail in or if i really want to find detailed cross hatching or if i'm drawing a portion of a face and i'm doing details around where the face is such as the areas that need a lot of detail or should be around the eyes or if i'm doing drawings of trees bark leaves or things that are very small i will switch over to the and we'll take a look at the line size between these two there we go okay so as you can see there there's not that much of a um difference that would be there if i was drawing with the so you've got the point or the rather so we've got the here yellow and the now if i hadn't gotten the the line width is so similar to the that i wouldn't really see much of a reason to draw with unless you're doing something very uh no technical such as something that's some kind of drawing for architecture design but the is a little bit smaller than the but it's enough of a difference to where if i was drawing with these two i would have a reason to switch over to the and um the is really good for filling in areas now if you want to pin this really good even better than the filling in areas i would actually go with the 0.5 i think if you go over the 0.5 depending what type of paper you have you might have problems with the ink bleeding through because it lets out so much ink that if you have a thin paper then it's going to bleed through the paper and um get on the next pages so i think anything over a 0.5 might start to bleed over to the other pages but if you've got really thick paper such as really smooth bristol paper then you'll be fine using any sides any size of the roaching isographs to fill in large areas and the here i'll give you a demonstration of when i'm doing fine details for cross hatching so i'll go in with a pen like this and that will let me get my really intricate fine little details if i was drawing something around an eye um we're drawing those little details maybe even the reflections inside but for the i will use that mostly for filling in larger areas and drawing outlines sometimes i'll use it for uh filling in these darker areas of drawing where there's not going to be much of any light at all Check the links below for prints, live streams, videos, sites & more. ►DONATE & SUPPORT CHANNEL 💰 Patreon: Paypal: ►BUY MY PRINTS & ARTWORK 🎨 Society6: DeviantART: Redbubble: Etsy: ? ►FOLLOW MY PAGES 👍 Twitter: Reddit: Facebook: StumbleUpon: Tumblr: Linkedin: Blogspot: Instagram: ►MY SITE 📑 WIX: ►WATCH ME LIVE 🔴 : ►Subscribe To My Channel ➡️ Commissions | Collaborations | Business 📩 Email: jsheetzartwork@

The nice thing about this channel is that I sometimes get sent things to try out. I was sent a new hybrid mechanical pencil / digital stylus by rOtring recently. I'm not being paid to make this video. The rOtring 800+ is great fun. It's a great pencil and a great stylus for you smart phone or iPad. I've found that most styli react to screens pretty much the same, so it comes down to how it feels in your hand. This is such a classy piece of engineering you will want to use it for the sake of it! It's nice and heavy in your hand and is a thing of beauty and craftsmanship. These brightly colored pencils are from the German company Rotring, although these pencils were made in China. The pencils are labeled HB and are pre-sharpened. They have a hexagonal wood barrel and are made without erasers.I was curious to see if the graphite would produce a lighter than average line, as has been my experience with many other European pencils. I use technical pens for my designs and when I don't use them for a while the ink dries and clogs my pen nibs. For ink cartridge style Rotring Rapidographs this has never been a problem and cleaning is a simple process so try it before you toss them out. Stupidly, I forgot to turn on my microphone in the footage I shot after 11 hours of soaking my nibs so I deleted that footage and I just explain what I did with the nibs after I got them working again and reconstructed. I hope this comes in handy for anyone with these pens that comes across this dried ink situation. I find cleaning this brand to be an easy process but with some other brands, I found that I couldn't always resurrect them post-clogging. I've been using this brand/line of pens since 1985 or so and am a professional illustrator. There's other processes one can employ but these simple measures have always worked just fine for me. I haven't needed solutions or cleaners but you might which could depend on how well their inks go back into solution when soaked in water. How to clean and unclog the Rotring Rapidograph graphic and illustration pen. If you let the pen sit idle for months the ink will become dry and clog the nib and you will not be able to use it. When this happens, you will need to clean the nib by disassembly. The first step is to take the pen apart. The second step is to soak the nib in plain water or distilled water for a twenty four hour period changing the water every few hours and adding more water until the piston inside the nib becomes loose again. The final step is to reassemble the pen cleaning any remaining water and adding a new ink cartridge. #rotring #rapidograph #clean #pen #ink #howto
