In this video we will look at how to receive ESU updates for Windows 7 to keep your computer patched until 2023. There is a lot of fearmongering and misconceptions about Windows 7 security, and who can receive the patches. There are 3 methods to continue patching Windows 7 for security vulnerabilities. Windows 7 STILL is OFFICIALLY supported by Microsoft and DOES receive security patches until Jan 2023 for people with an ESU license. 1) Legit Method: You can purchase an ESU license for $ via proxying through a CSP. Some CSPs will have a registration fee if this is your first time using said CSP. I recommend you proxy through me to waive said fee. You will receive a license key in a few days after purchase, install the license key, then your computer will continue downloading and installing updates via Windows Update as it did before official support was dropped. 2) Illegal By-Pass Method: There is a script on My Digital Life that allows ESU updates to be installed. You will have to check the Update History each Patch Tuesday to get said month's Monthly Rollup KB number, then download the KB manually via the Windows Update Catalog. You will also need to have the proper SSU (Servicing Stack Update) installed as well as the License Preparation Package. 3) Legit Non-Official Method: There is a security firm called 0patch that is offering security patches for $ a year for anyone, including individuals. They reverse-engineer Microsoft's patches or create their own method to patch said vulnerabilities and 0days. In this video, we will take a look at what your options are after Windows 7 Support ends on January 14th 2020. So will my PC stop working after this date? your PC will become more vulnerable to Malware, Ransomware and Hackers without regular security windows updates and security patches. Option 1 Use extended security updates option offered by Microsoft or Unplugged Internet Microsoft will stop providing security updates for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020 unless you use there extended security updates option. * The first year will cost $50 per device. * The second year will cost $100 per device. * The third year will cost $200 per device. These costs set out by Microsoft are absolute madness, but it is a lifeline with a added three more years of extended security updates given to businesses with idea that it will help them upgrade old hardware and software. Companies have the options to unplugged the internet and continue to use Windows 7 safely, but some computers may need internet, so this might not be a option for everyone. Option 2 Upgrade or Replace your old Windows 7 PC This is not as easy as it sounds for a business. The cost to upgrade every computer is a expensive thing to do. companies will have no choice but to upgrade there old ageing hardware and software to Windows 10 at some point. They could extend for another 3 years, but that would cost more than the upgrade itself in the long run. Buy new computers is also not as easy as it seems, with some old software which company's use, might not be compatible with Windows 10 and the software and licencing can be very expensive to upgrade for small businesses. Option 3 Install Linux? Its not as hard as people make out and could be a option for home users, but for businesses? I am not so sure. For a company to rollout to Linux would by a nightmare, they would have to have a learning program put in place for there users, the software they use might not be compatible with Linux. So unless companies are will to convert to Linux fully, I am not sure its a viable option for a business to install Linux. Some companies will have software that they must use and users will be trained and skilled in that software, so to install Linux and retrain all the staff on new software would be a nightmare. Microsoft stops providing free security updates for the system today (Tuesday January 14), meaning computers using it will be more vulnerable to malware and hacking. STORY-LINE: Users of Microsoft Windows 7 who want to protect their computers need to upgrade to Windows 10. As of today the company is no longer providing free security updates for the system. Users may also need to buy new computers because older machines might not be compatible with Windows 10. Tech companies typically phase out older systems after a number of years and focus efforts on updating current versions of software. Windows 7 came out in 2009. Windows 8, which came out in 2012, will have free support end in 2023. Windows 10 starts at $139 USD for a basic, "Home" version. Microsoft charges $200 USD for a "Pro" version meant for businesses and individuals who need its advance features. Windows 10 comes with regular free updates for security and additional features. Although Windows 10 isn't likely to be phased out anytime soon, older versions will require those updates to keep working. Microsoft is also ending support Tuesday for Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 operating systems. Those who run Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Enterprise can buy extended protection for up to three years. But it might be worthwhile to just to buy new PCs or get Windows 10. Microsoft will also be ending support on Oct. 13 for Office 2010 a package that includes word processing and spreadsheet software. With the End of Support for Windows Server 2008 on January 14th, 2020 - you no longer have the ability to receive Security Updates or Support for any servers running Windows Server 2008. If you need to keep these systems under some level of support after January 14th - you have a few limited options:   1) You can migrate your Server and workload up to Azure (#migrate-to-azure) and receive up to 3 free years of Security Updates and Support from Microsoft.  2) Provided you have an Enterprise Agreement / Volume License Agreement or you have purchased Software Assurance - you can enter into an Extended Support Agreement with Microsoft for up to 3 years and you will be able to register / enroll a fixed number of systems into this program.  If you NEED to stay on-premises with these systems, and you have all the prerequisites in place, you can generate a special "Multiple Activation Key" from the Azure portal and deploy it to your on-prem update service: Windows Update, System Center Config Man or even 3rd party solution.  Want to learn more? Microsoft Update was a piece of software that was integrated to Windows Update, so you could receive updates for Microsoft related software. After Microsoft changed the update system to SHA-2 only, receiving updates for older Windows Operating systems was tough. Microsoft made it harder to access the Microsoft Update pages and it was almost impossible so users thought that it was lost forever. But today, I will be showing you how to revive Microsoft Update, so you can receive updates for Microsoft related software like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Security Essentials, and Microsoft Visual Studio! Prerequisites Your Windows 7 system just needs to have the Automatic Updates feature working in order for this to work. You need to have both Service Pack 1 and the KB3102810 update installed on Windows 7 in order to make Automatic Updates work. Otherwise when you check for updates you will always get an error. Microsoft will release a final round of patches for the operating system later today before support ends. While there is a chance that critical patches will be provided after support end, as it happened previously with other versions of Windows that ran out of support, it is fair to say that these will be an exception rather than something that will happen frequently. If you still run Windows 7 on a home system or work on a Windows 7 machine in an organization, you have a couple of options when it comes to using your devices. First, the good news: while Microsoft will end its support for the operating system, many popular software programs will continue to receive updates for quite some time. Google announced recently that it will support Chrome on Windows 7 for at least 18 months, and programs like Steam, Firefox, and even Microsoft Edge will continue to be supported for the time being. Two versions of Windows are supported by Microsoft after support ends for Windows 7. There is Windows 8.1 which will be supported until 2023 and Windows 10, which will be supported indefinitely it appears. The upgrade to Windows 10 is still free for users that have a genuine Windows 7 product key. Microsoft ended these free upgrades officially in 2016 but never stopped the process. We revealed why that is the case and that this is a deliberate decision by the company and not an oversight. These users may select to upgrade to Windows 8.1 instead. It is closer to Windows 7 in many regards and will be supported for another three years before support runs out. Downside to upgrading to Windows 8.1 is that a key is needed and that this product key needs to be purchased. Cheap keys are available on different marketplaces such as eBay, and buying them may be legal in your jurisdiction. If the PC is rather old, you could also consider purchasing a new device entirely and maybe get a license for Windows 8.1 or 10 that way. It is important to note that there are two types of support that Microsoft offers: mainstream support and extended support, and it is important to know the difference because lots of people are making business decisions based on a misunderstanding of what is happening behind the scenes, and don’t typically understand what extended support really is. Microsoft operates on a 10 year product life cycle. The first 5 years of release it supports and tweaks and updates everything and keeps up with compatibility. After that first 5 years, the next 5 years are just security updates meant to keep you as secure as possible, but aren’t really looking to support or compatibility as much. End of mainstream support means only security patches from there on out. No customer support or bug fixes unless paid. New hardware and software both inside and outside of Microsoft is less likely to consider compatibility. Essentially, the operating system will only maintain, and new shiny things are iffy. Windows 7 was basically my entire life. This OS, has been the best to me for over an decade. Despite Ending Support, i must Upgrade to Windows 8.1. Microsoft has a lot they cant use. I also heard that Microsoft is not making a Windows 11, so... when Windows 10 support ends. We will have to migrate to Linux. Sad, very sad.

Especially for businesses, the best option in most cases is to buy a new computer with Windows 10 on it. The next option would be to simply upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10. Often, this is not a good solution because these are typically older machines which will not run Windows 10 well due to hardware limitations. The 3rd option is generally not recommended but may be a requirement when a computer runs special software that cannot be installed on Windows 7 or else when hardware requirements (due to a specific device, etc.) prevent Windows 10 from being an option. In those cases, Microsoft has made available the Windows 7 Extended Security Updates program. This involves purchasing a license from a Microsoft Cloud Solutions Provider which will allow Windows 7 to continue to receive updates from Microsoft through January 14, 2021.
