1st Call 4 Service called into an HP 5500 42" Designjet printer with an air leak in the yellow line of the tube system, causing air entering the printhead which is not recoverable. NB. if you get air in the tube system you can recover, then replace the printhead. If you have no printhead at time and need to get printer running for job that day! The way to get around this if you need the yellow was to take off the tabs which let you insert the light magenta into the yellow channel, taek the chip strip information from the yellow printhead which is located at the back of the printhead just above the connector strip, this is stuck on with double sided tape, just please take care to take it off then fit it to the other printhead. When you fit into printer you will find that when printing yellow you will get the wrong colour in this case we got light magenta! printed about 10 meters of yellow and the light magenta changed from that to yellow

How to run a print head alignment on a Design 1050c & DesignJet 1055cm. For Sales, Repairs, Service, Support & More visit: This video shows a Printhead alignment procedure on a Designjet 1050c Series (including 1050c plus/1055cm/1055cm plus). Normally this is done after a warning from the machine but sometimes it may be that you have noticed that certain colours are degrading and the printheads with them. Selecting the - Setup menu - on the Control panel and scrolling through to - Utilities - and on to - Calibrations and Printheads alignments. When this is selected the Designjet will run a Printhead calibration page. From this it usually becomes fairly apparent which colour printhead is faulty and needs to be replaced. Once this is done the machine will run another Printhead calibration and if satisfied the printer will become ready for printing.

For Sales, Repairs, Service, Support & More visit: This video demonstrates how to replace a printhead on a Designjet 1050c Series (including 1050c plus/1055cm/1055cm plus). Using the Control panel scroll down in the - Ink menu - until you can select - Replace printhead -. The machine will move the carriage over to make them accessible and then you will be instructed to lift the window to access the printheads. Lift the blue pinch lever and fold it back then remove the problem printhead by lifting it out vertically by its handle. Check the cavity to see whether it needs cleaning, there is a special tool available or you can use an oil dampened lint free cloth. Replace with new printhead and close down latch and window. Close the topcover and the machine will run a printhead alignment check page (see video) and tell you if the machine is ready.

In this video I'll just talk about an experiment that I've done today involving the HP 8600, 8610 and 8620 printheads. Pretty often these printers gave me the error "printhead missing or damaged" and even after cleaning the contacts and doing some initial diagnoses I couldn't get them to work again. Today maybe I found something that could be a common problem, but I'd need to do more tests to say this. All I can say for now is this: If your printer gives you that error, and you don't fix the problem cleaning the contacts or something like that, the printhead is REALLY damaged and needs to be replaced, don't even bother doing what I did :) As always, thank you for your time watching these videos! In my opinion, this is a purposeful design flaw, as it seems to me, to increase the need to replace the printer or print head, all to increase sales/profits. Thin cellophane lasts a far shorter time than solid plastic. If you're going to flush your print head, be VERY careful of the amount of pressure you apply. There are other videos/articles about cleaning solutions, but I just used water that was between warm and hot (able to touch to lips), and the added a bit of Isopropyl alcohol the second time. I'm also guessing/assuming about the printer forcing air into the cartridge to force ink out of the cartridge. BTW, the screw heads take a tiny 6-pointed star screw-bit or driver. I used an extraction/reversing drill bit. Sorry about the shaking parts of the video. I hope this helps someone understand whats going on inside the printer/print head, and possibly help solve some problems; save some time and money.

How and when to run a print head alignment on the DesignJet 1xx series. (DesignJet 100, 110, 111, 120, 130) For Sales, Repairs, Service, Support & More visit: This video applies to all of the smaller Designjets (including the Designjet 100 series 100 Plus/110/111/120/130) whether 4 ink or 6 ink, the principle remains the same. The video is currently showing a 4 ink Designjet 100 powered up and ready to print an Alignment page, the required buttons on the panel having been selected This is normally done when the ink quality is deteriorating and you can't instantly determine which printhead is at fault. When the Designjet has finished running the Printhead Alignment page the patterns on it are checked to see where ink is missing, an X shows where the alignment has failed - the test will be produced 3 times to try to produce a page to pass the alignment. Initially both the cyan and the yellow are at fault but by the third print the yellow has improved but the cyan has deteriorated further indicating a need to replace only the cyan (see other video). Having replaced the relevant printhead we re-run the alignment page which now shows a tick/pass mark.

HP DesignJet 450C repair DesignJet cartridge error HP DesignJet specialist repairs. This video shows a Designjet 450c printer with a cartridge and data error code which 99% of the time will indicate carriage failure and the odd 5% trailing cable failure. The machine is put through the startup sequence with the carriage moving over to the right and returning to the left before starting to search for the encoder - a white mark on the platen roller. It keeps searching but is obviously missing it which indicates the sensor is not working correctly - it searches until it gives up and produces the error code. This indicates the carriage needs to be replaced. A similar error could occur on all 400 Series including the 430/450/455/488 Series.
