After years of begging from the people for Audi to release a more powerful version of the RS6, it’s finally here. At the Audi Performance Days in event in Spain last week, for the media and all, I was one of the chosen ones to get a first glimpse of the new RS6 Performance and RS7 Performance. Normally they were supposed to be shot in a studio, but after asking nice, Audi let me take them out on the Circuito Monteblanco track, so at least I could snap some shots and videos in proper daylight. The new Performance models have 30hp more power (630) and 50Nm more torque (850). Not only that, they are lighter. The official acceleration time is faster down to 3.4 seconds, which for sure means 3.2 seconds in real life. More of everything changed in the new car in the info below. Enjoy! Car: 2023 Audi RS6 Avant Performance (C8) - 630hp/850nm/627lbft/441kw - V8 4.0 TwinTurbo Mild Hybrid Performance: 0-100kmh(62mph): (official), Top Speed: 305km/h Color: Available in 16 different colors Power: Thanks to larger turbocharges, the boost goes up from 2.4 to 2.6 bar Weight reduction: Thanks to reduced insulation between the engine compartment, the interior and the rear of the car, it is 8kg/17lbs lighter. Also, the new 22” lightweight performance wheels, reduce the weight further by 5kg/wheel, compared to the aluminum RS6 22” wheel Weight: 2090kg / 4607lbs Gearbox: 8 speed tiptronic with now changed TCU for faster shifts Technology: Strictly mechanical now lighter, more compact and self-locking center differential distributes engine power to the rear axle at 40:60 ratio, and if slippage occurs, the power goes 70-85% to the rear. Steering: Self-steering response is more exact for more agile driving Wheels: The new 22” lightweight wheels manufactured in a high-tech forging-milling process. It features efficiency elements in the form of the mild-hybrid system (MHEV) with a 48-volt main electrical system and the cylinder on demand (COD) system that switches off four cylinders in operating situations that demand less output. Power is transmitted to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive via the standard eight-speed tiptronic with faster gear changing. The wheel-selective torque control and the optional quattro sport differential optimize traction, stability and dynamics. Consistently distinct: the exterior design The new Audi RS 6 Avant is no wolf in sheep’s clothing – it shows off its distinct design with great confidence. Aside from the front doors, the roof and the luggage compartment cover, all body panels are RS-specific. The wheel arches, which are flared by around 40 millimeters (1.6 in) on each side, and wheels with a diameter of up to 22 inches emphasize the sporty character of the high-performance Avant, which measures roughly five meters (16.4 ft) in length. The new hood with powerdome, the striking lateral air inlets with vertical wings, and the wide flat Singleframe leave no doubt as to the unconditional drive of the RS icon. RS-specific HD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light and darkened bezels are available as an alternative to the standard LED headlights. Sporty and progressive: the interior The interior design of the new RS 6 Avant is forward-looking and markedly driver-oriented. The user interface of the fully digital operating system MMI touch response is easy to read and harmonizes with the sleek black panel design. The two displays with haptic and acoustic feedback are positioned one above the other and can be operated via touch and swiping movements. Special RS displays in the Audi virtual cockpit provide additional trip and vehicle data. The shift light display prompts the driver to upshift when the rev limit is reached. During the Industry Pool at the Nürburgring I have filmed the 2025 Audi RS6 facelift testing on track. It may seem more of the same, but as the saying goes, the devil is in the details. The front fenders have been widened even further to incorporate vertical slats. It's unclear whether they're for aerodynamic purposes or to cool the brakes, but they're not there on the current model. Moving at the back, the roof spoiler is bigger than before and seems to be adapted from the wild RS6 GTO concept. In fact, that one-off unveiled in late 2020 to celebrate 40 years of Quattro also had vented front fenders. Elsewhere, the front grille seems a tad smaller than before, unless the camouflage is playing tricks on us. Both bumpers have been updated, with the most obvious novelties being the reshaped front air intakes and the horizontal red reflectors at the rear. As for the wheels, the prototype used the massive alloys we saw on the RS6 Performance introduced last November with an upgraded V8 making 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts) and 850 Newton-meters (625 pound-feet) of torque. The 22-inch wheels shaved off a combined 20 kilograms (44 pounds) over a conventional set of the same size courtesy of a high-tech forging-milling process. Much like the Performance, chances are this prototype has ceramic brakes. Finished in what appears to be Audi Sport's signature Nardo Grey color, the test vehicle had a full roll cage you obviously won't find on the production model. We could be looking at the "more extreme" derivative announced last month by the performance division's boss Sebastian Grams: "We can go more extreme. We can make the car even stronger, even more performance, even sharper." This upcoming facelift is likely going to be the last update for the pure ICE-powered RS6 Avant as Audi has already announced the next-gen model will be a plug-in hybrid. It's unclear whether it'll keep the V8 or downsize to a V6 but rest assured it won’t get a four-pot as the German luxury brand has ruled out doing four-cylinder RS cars. Meanwhile, the updated current-gen RS6 should arrive sometime in 2024, after Audi facelifts the standard A6 Avant, the rugged A6 Allroad, and the warm S6 Avant. Thanks to everyone for lending us their cars for this race: - BMW M5: - BMW M5: @DNAAUTOHAUS - AMG E63: - AMG E63: @exclusiveautos6770 We’ve got our hands on the all-new Audi RS6 Performance, and it’s about to go head-to-head against its key competitors, the BMW M5 Competition and Mercedes-AMG E63 S! Think this line-up seems familiar? Well, that’s because it is - we’ve done this race before! The question is, will the all-new RS6 have what it takes to bring down the competition? Well, let’s first find out by checking out the stats. Starting with the RS6, it’s powered by the same 4-litre twin-turbo V8 as before, but the power has been dialled up, and it now produces an amazing 630hp and 850Nm of torque! This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, however, the car is the heaviest in this line-up, tipping the scales at 2,090kg! It’s also the most expensive car here, with a price tag of around £113,000. Alongside it, we have the BMW. It’s packing a twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, which is good for 625hp and 750Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed torque converter gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,865kg. It’s also slightly cheaper than the RS6, at around £111,000. Then finally we have the AMG. It’s actually the least powerful car here, with its 4-litre twin-turbo V8 putting down 612hp and 850Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed multi-clutch gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,950kg. It’s the cheapest car in this line-up, too, costing around £106,000. So will the most powerful car win it? Or will the BMW’s incredible launch system propel it to victory? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! And so finally! The first real test of the new 2020 Audi RS6, that was recently revealed. Went to amazing Malibu, California in USA, for the launch of the car, and spent some days with it. It’s amazing how well such a big car like this can handle and drive. It is just so much better and agile in corners than it’s predecessor.
