What makes a sound? | Sound Experiments for Kids | Learning Video for Kindergarten and 1st Grade | Kids Academy
Children think a lot. Mostly when they are young and peeking into everything. The question which most of the kids usually ask is; what makes a sound? To make their concept clear it is important to tell what sound actually is. Well, the sound is the form of energy which is produced with the interaction of two objects.
There are numerous different sources which can produce sound. For example, whenever you start a car, the engine makes noises. This sound is produced as a result of energy supplied. Another thing which the kids need to know is that the light travels faster than sound. For example, whenever the lightning is struck you see the lighting prior to hearing its sound.
Everything around you tends to produce sound. Whether it is the fridge, car, tube light or fan, everything which requires energy for its operation makes a sound. To learn more about sound and its facts stay connected.

I've owned a monome for several years, and have a step sequencer I've developed over time that is basically perfect for how I do things. Last weekend, I decided I wanted gesture recording for parameter control added to that step sequencer, so I "ported" it from the monome to a JUCE app, where I could use it on a large multitouch monitor. Life Skills Centre regular Jono has been experimenting with a suite of accessible open source online music making software made by engineers at Google - 'Chrome Music Lab' is a website that makes learning music more accessible through fun experiments.
In the video we can see Jono exploring the spectogram experiment in Chrome Music Lab. A spectrogram is a picture of sound. A spectrogram shows the frequencies that make up the sound, from low to high, and how they change over time, from left to right. With this experiment you can use the mic to see what your own voice sounds look like.
In the first clip Jono is using his Eyegaze to draw soundwaves on screen and in the second using his voice to generate soundwaves in the spectogram.
ICT Activity Coordinator Paul Crawford comments "The potential for using the spectogram as a tool for encouraging speech is very exciting."

Sound Wave Experiments
In this video, we are going to look at the factors that influence the speed of sound and how to measure it.
We will look at sound waves in more detail in another video: Sound Waves
Sound travels at about 340m/s in air. At sea level. At 20 degrees celsius.
What does this tell us?
That temperature and air pressure affect the speed sound can travel through air. And this speed changes again for different mediums.
How is this possible? It’s all to do with particles. Let’s look at some evidence.
So sound travels at about 340 m/s in air.
In water, it travels at 1500 m/s, While in some solids sound can travel at up to 5000 m/s.
That’s incredibly fast compared to air!!
These differences are due to how particles are arranged in solids, liquids, and gases.

It is time to revolutionize the way we communicate and interact with digital content using new AI tools related to text to speech, text to sound, text to voice, and AI voice generator technologies.
The best open source, text-to-speech AI tool has been released. In this video we're again diving into the world of artificial intelligence, exploring the latest open-source text-to-speech marvel - Bark, from Suno AI. You will be amazed by Bark's capabilities in audio generation! 🎧
I have used many audio generation software with text-to-speech capabilities on Windows. But they generate robotic voices. This AI based tool is a game changer. With this, you have the ability to generate natural sounding voices.
But it's not just about converting text to speech. Bark goes beyond that! With its remarkable transformer-based architecture, Bark can produce music 🎵, background noise, and even sound effects! It even understands nonverbal cues, like laughter 😂, sighs 😪, and crying 😢.
Bark supports multiple languages and even auto-detects the language from input text. So, if you want to try out code-switching, Bark will blend the native accents of the respective languages like a linguistic virtuoso.
It supports these languages
English (en)
German (de)
Spanish (es)
French (fr)
Hindi (hi)
Italian (it)
Japanese (ja)
Korean (ko)
Polish (pl)
Portuguese (pt)
Russian (ru)
Turkish (tr)
Chinese, simplified (zh)
Support for more languages is coming soon.
Bark can generate music. Enclose lyrics in music notes to generate music.
Bark can also clone voices. Its sophisticated algorithm mimics tone, pitch, emotion, and prosody.
And what's even more incredible? Bark works on both CPUs and GPUs! Of course, the performance might vary, but with modern GPUs and PyTorch nightly, you can generate audio in real-time. Amazing, right?
Similar to other breakthroughs like Vall-E, Bark utilizes GPT-style models to generate audio from scratch. But Bark's uniqueness lies in its ability to convert text prompts into high-level semantic tokens without phonemes. This allows Bark to work with a diverse range of instructions, like music lyrics, sound effects, and other non-speech sounds.
For easy accessibility, Bark has partnered with Facebook's EnCodec codec to serve as an audio representation.
Right now you can join Suno Studio early access waitlist by providing your email address.
If you want to try it out, they have demos on Google colab and on HuggingFace.
You can include Non-speech sounds in the text prompt as well. If you want to generate music, add music notes around lyrics. You can use speaker prompts like 'woman', 'man', 'narrator' to change generated voice accordingly.
Under Appreciation, they have mentioned technologies and inspiration used such as, nanoGPT, EnCodec, AudioLM, and Vall-E.
For the license, Bark is licensed under a non-commercial license. The Suno models themselves may be used commercially. However, this version of Bark uses EnCodec as a neural codec backend, which is licensed under a non-commercial license. So keep it in mind.

. When we see ripples in the pond or the waves of the sea, then we very easily recognise them as waves. However, we are often told that ""sound is a wave"" or ""light is a wave"". It's hard to imagine them that way, and sometimes the best way to demonstrate that aspect is to make a representative model of the same.
In this demonstration TACtivity, a 100 or more evenly-spaced straws are sandwiched between a pair of tapes running through their center. This Straw Wave Model can be twirled and stretched to demonstrate multiple properties of transverse waves.
