I bought VDV 2 Pro tester. This cable tester has very fast TDR, faster than Fluke Cable Iq, Fluke Microscanner 2, and Kurt Electronics Ke 7100. The tone generator can be used on all 8 wires, on pairs, or oven on stan alone wires. There are 4 Analog and 4 digital tone modes. Wiremap Graph could be better, But it is easy to read and very fast. It shows cable length even if on the far side of the cable there is an active, or powered-off switch - a fantastic feature. A coax test should be used on disconnecting from the spider cable. It has velocity settings for Phone, coaxes, and data ports. When the tester powered off settings are still saved. #CableTester #NetworkTester #TrendNetworks

The Ideal VDV II Pro cable tester has an undocumented feature that alters the way the TDR length measurements work. I wasn't able to find any reference online or in the product manual so I eventually called the Ideal technical support phone number and spoke to an *actual* person. He knew right away why I was calling and told me "yes there is nothing posted online or in the manual about this "feature" ". So, if you use this cable tester or one of the others in the VDV series and are currently at the top of a 12ft ladder , this might make your day. :-)

The VDV is one tester that will do telephone, coax and twisted pair testing; it's more than just a wire mapper. The VDV tester provides three ways to identify a line: send a tone to tone the line out; use the remotes for identifying and determining the proper port corresponding to the outlet, and with the Pro model, use the hublink feature. The hublink feature lets you plug in to an active line, and back at the pass panel, it will identify the proper port that is corresponding to the outlet. The VDV II Pro comes with a built-in TDR which gives the length of a cable run, but it will also give the distances to opens and shorts. It does Power over Ethernet detection: if there's a Power over Ethernet line, it tells you what the voltage is and what the positive and the negative pins are. It has phone service detection; whether it's an analog or digital line. It also gives Ethernet detection that shows if the line is advertising 10, 100 or 1000 Mbs. State-of-the-art wiremapping at it's best: the VDV II Pro is the newest product in wiremapping from IDEAL INDUSTRIES. Ease of use. Get instant wiremapping information from a simple plug in: phone, data, coax as well as a tone generator inside it. You can do TDR and length troubleshooting with this. You have phone capabilities, data capabilities and coax labeled with a picture. On screen, the top line will always be what you're supposed to have and the bottom line will always be what you actually have. Easily identify wire by wire which one is off. The VDV II Pro has the capability for PoE detection, so you can run with a live circuit. The backlighting is adjustable from no backlighting on your screen or up to 300 seconds. If you're questioning the length of a spool of line in data mode, you can go in with the supplied alligator clips, hook up to the line and test to see what your length is. You can also cable test to find where your fault is as well. Your remote unit number one is found in the bottom of the tester. This way you can go ahead and hook up your RG11, 12, you can go all the way to your Cat5, Cat5e, and 6. It gives it a nice, good storage spot, so you can keep up with it. We do offer remotes as well as identifiers in addition to the one that comes packaged with the unit. This is not going to be like your traditional wiremapper. This is well advanced; having the capabilities to do your PoE detection, your line lengths; you can do all of your wiremapping but you also have a tone generator included in it, so it's almost four tools in one. It's a huge time-saver. It's an easy; it's a plug and play type situation. You plug it in; once you have your line, if it has a fault, it will tell you exactly where the fault is as well as foot detection is concerned. If you're not wiremapped correctly, its a direct line up as far as 1:1, 2:2; very clear and easy to understand. The 33-856 VDV Tester is an LCD based all-in-one basic Voice-Data-Video tester for verifying proper wiring of low-voltage and data communications cables like RG-6 coaxial cable, telephone wire and shielded or unshielded Cat 5e and Cat 6 data cables. The primary function of the VDV is the wiremap test which visually shows, pin by pin, whether a cable is terminated properly at both ends and if there is continuity from end to end. The VDV can test Data or Ethernet connections terminated with RJ-45 modular plugs, Voice or Phone cables with RJ-11 or RJ-12 modular plugs, and Video or coax cables that are terminated with F connectors. The LCD screen visually displays “PASS” or “ERROR” after each test to verify if the cable is terminated correctly. A built in analog tone generator is also included and can be used in all testing modes. The tone generator has 4 user selectable tones. Toning helps to locate and identify a single cable that is within a bundle of cables. The tone generator has the ability to tone by pin, by pair, or the all conductors at once. This allows the user to more precisely locate errors within the cable, such as finding opens. The 62-164 Amplifier probe (sold separately) is recommended for use in amplifying the tone signal. To turn the tester off Press any of the three test VOICE, DATA, VIDEO, buttons that is different that the test being currently run. If the tester is in DATA mode, press VOICE once and it will turn off. The 33-866 Test-Tone-Trace VDV kit combines two of our most popular testers - our 33-856 VDV Multimedia tester and the 62-164 Amplifier Probe plus several accessories in one kit designed to handle all of the basic testing and toning applications used by low voltage, video, and data communications installers. This is an affordable kit that any installer of twisted pair or coax cable would use every day on the job. The VDV is an LCD based all-in-one basic Voice-Data-Video tester for verifying proper wiring of low-voltage and data communications cables. The primary function of the VDV is the wiremap test. The wiremap test visually shows, pin by pin, whether a cable is terminated properly at both ends, and if there is continuity from end to end. The VDV can test Data or Ethernet connections terminated with RJ-45 modular plugs, Voice or Phone cables with RJ-11 or RJ-12 modular plugs, and Video or coax cables that are terminated with F connectors. The LCD visually displays “PASS” or “ERROR” after each test to verify if the cable is terminated correctly. A built in analog tone generator is also included and can be used in all testing modes. The tone generator has 4 user selectable tones. Toning helps to locate and identify a single cable that is within a bundle of cables. The tone generator has the ability to tone by pin, by pair, or all conductors at once. This allows the user to more precisely locate errors within the cable, such as finding opens. The 62-164 Amplifier Probe is used to audibly amplify analog signals generated by the built-in tone generators. The kit includes the VDV multimedia tester, amplifier probe, F/BNC/RCA coax adapters, RJ-11, RJ-45, coax and alligator clip cable assemblies, carrying case, instructions booklet and batteries. The IDEAL SignalTEK data cable transmission tester is a device that an installer can use that generates a wire map – which they all want- to test to make sure that the wire fit together. Beyond that once it is verified that the wires are hooked up properly, the SignalTEK CT is actually a data cable transmission tester. It actually transmits 10 billion bits of data from the main unit through the wire to the remote and back again over the course of 10 seconds. A quick and simple explanation of what a basic network cable tester is and how to use it. Understanding how to performa a simple network cable test is essential to any network administrator. And, the tool is a must-have addition to your kit. The basic network tester is a must-have tool for any network administrator. THe value to expense ratio makes it a huge bargain. Using a basic network tester the user can determine if the network cabling is faulty. This saves the cost of having a cabling technician come to your business location only to tell you there is nothing wrong with the cable. Using the tester, you can rule-out cabling issues if the test proves good. The basic tester is not a "cable certifier". Cabling Certifiers are expense pieces of equipment designed to test the fitness of the cable for speed, through-put, and resistance to noise. All the basic network tester is doing is sending small electric currents down the cable to validate that the connectivity is sound all the way through. And, that the wires have been terminated in the appropriate spots on the jack and patch panel. With this tool, we can identify: cut cables, mis-wiring, reversed pairs, 568a/568b cross-overs, and damaged pairs. Generally speaking, your cabling infrastructure does not go bad on its own. Usually, the cable has to be exposed to stress, truama, or moisture for it to fail. Common causes of damange frequently seen are cables in wareshouse where inventory inpinges on exposed cabling, water dripping on wall jacks, or chaffing of loose cabling that eventually wears through the cable jacket. The old saying about rats chewing on the cables in the ceiling is a myth.
