Sorry about the sniffing, was just recovering from being ill in this one. Quick vid just to help some people out when it comes to spacers for cassettes. I do buy used stuff and a few years back had to google all these spacers as was not sure how they should be used. This is on a SRAM PG 1030 but the same principle apply to other cassettes.

I have noticed a metallic twang sound coming from the rear wheel. I investigate the problem. I suspect that I forgot a spacer so that the cassette can be properly tightened. This may or may not be the problem. I'm working on my 2019 GT Aggressor Pro which has an upgraded drive train. It's a 10 speed Shimano Deore derailleur. I use a cassette lockring tool and cheap chain whip to remove the shimano hg cassette. It turns out that I made a mistake as a rookie mechanic and forgot the spacer. After adding the spacer, the derailleur and cassette no longer perfectly align. I'll have to solve this new problem on another episode. parktool cassette lockring tool

I show what you need to do to mount a 7 speed cassette on to a bike wheel hub designed to fit 8, 9 or 10 speed cassettes. It involves mounting a spacer onto the hub. But you may need to file notches into the spacer to avoid having the cassette wobble. The wobble is caused by uneven rivets. Installing a 9 speed cassette on my 11 speed bicycle wheel freehub. I used one cassette spacer to make the smaller 9 speed cassette fit the larger 11 speed hub. This also works for an 8 speed cassette on an 11 speed hub. For a 10 speed cassette on an 11 speed freehub you will need a spacer and a 1mm spacer. You need a cassette spacer to prevent any movement from a smaller cassette when it is tightened to a larger wheel freehub. If you screw on the cassette and it wiggles on the hub that means you need a spacer or two to fill the gap. Check the freehub manufacturer's instructions for the correct size and quantity of spacers needed. Some cassette spacers that sit at the base of hub under the cassette body (low spacer) have notches or grooves, and these should face the cassette. Additional spacers are plain and do not have notches or grooves. To remove a bike cassette you need a cassette lockring remover tool, a chainwhip, and a large wrench. Use the chainwhip to hold the cassette in place by wrapping it around a cog and holding it while you use the cassette lockring remover tool and a wrench to unscrew the cassette lockring counterclockwise. The chainwhip prevents the cassette from spinning or coasting while unscrewing the lockring. To install a bike cassette you need a cassette lockring remover tool, and a large wrench. Use the cassette lockring tool and a wrench to screw on the cassette clockwise. Note: I forgot to post this video earlier. Could you fit without the spacer? What else could you put in to fill the gap. If you have a cassette that you don’t need, take it out and look for the cogs. Find the right thickness, is what you are looking for. The 11t cog is and the 13t cog is 4mm. The 11t cog won’t work, It won’t slide onto the hub because the splines are not fully open, it would stay at the top of the hub. So let’s use the 13t cog (4mm). If you want to buy a really good quality FD to RF adapter for your vintage lens collection I would recommend the Fotodiox Pro FD to EOS R Adapter. I've been using this adapter to mount my vintage FD glass onto my EOS R and EOS R5 for the past two years and I only have positive things to say about it. This adapter is built solid and will survive professional use. From what I can tell there does’t seem to be any plastic components on this adapter. This best thing about this adapter is the ease of use. It makes it really easy to mount vintage lenses on to my mirrorless cameras. It fits tightly to my lenses and camera bodies without that wiggle you get from some cheaper adapters. This Fotodiox adapter is really a quality piece of kit and I’m happy to have it in my bag.
