How to use the Olympus 9mm Fisheye lens. This lens works on Lumix and Olympus mirrorless cameras. A body cap lens is not connected to the electronics of the camera. This all-glass fisheye lens is manual focus, and has a fixed f/stop of f/8.0. At f/8.0 you’re better off using this outdoors, on a bright day. The 9mm focal length is equivalent to 18mm field of view on the Lumix or Olympus mirrorless cameras (35mm film) It can focus from 20cm - 7.9 inches to infinity. Here’s how I use this 9mm fisheye lens with my Lumix GM5: * First step is to put the camera body in “shoot without lens” setting. [show] * Because the f/stop is fixed at f/8 I use Aperture Priority mode. * It will also work well in iA or Program mode. * For skateboarding and outdoor action photos I typically like a fast shutter speed so that I can freeze the action. 1/1000 second or faster. * So I use my ISO to control exposure too. If it’s sunny, 200 ISO is perfect. When the clouds rolled in I set it to 400 or 800 ISO — this is to keep the shutter speed high enough to freeze the motion * I make sure focus peaking is enabled so that I can see what parts of the image are in focus. * Next you need to set the focus. * As I mentioned, the middle setting gives me the best results. My opinion * This is a very fun lens, especially for a small camera. * A great extra lens to pack on a holiday and adds that extra focal length missing from the kit lens of my GM5 * The price is right! Under $100 USD * You definitely need a lot of light to work with this lens. Outdoor use on a sunny day is recommended * I love the dramatic effect of the fisheye distortion, but with fisheye lenses that’s the look you’re going for. * I would never try to correct that distortion, rather I’d use it creatively. * It’s not super sharp, but it will do. I think we are so used to super sharp imagery these days. In this video I'm testing the field of view, FoV, between the Olympus 9mm Body Cap Lens & the Olympus 15mm Body Cap Lens. The model numbers are, BCL-0980 & BCL-1580 I've got the camera, which is a Z Cam E1, locked off at a distance typical of full arms length vlogging, close interview recording, or indeed any close dialogue, talking heads shots. Both of these lenses are fantastic cheap MFT lenses and great for vlogging, podcasting, interview work and wide establishing shots. I won't go too much into each lens as I'll be doing full reviews soon. I'll also be doing a video soon of my Z Cam E1 and the various rigs that I use with it. Needless to say, both the Olympus 9mm and 15mm are integral to this system, which is mainly for vlogging, pieces to camera and interviews. I also think that the Olympus 9mm Body Cap Lens is the best vlogging lens without spending silly money, and the 15mm is a perfect companion for cutaway, b-roll and establishing shots. One more quick note. The Olympus 9mm body cap lens BCL-0980 is also a fisheye lens, although its barrelling, fisheye effect and image distortion are easy to live at, least for me, as I don't think it looks too severe. I've had many action cameras that look way worse. This ultra wide FoV is also what makes it very good as a vlogging, podcasting lens. There's also some of my preliminary tests that use both these lenses in the below link to my E1 videos. Sto provando una serie di obiettivi economici e mi è capitato per le mani questo Olympus BCL-0980 Fisheye. In realtà non è proprio capitato, mi sono accorto che era in offerta durante il Black Friday e l’ho aggiunto alla letterina per Babbo Natale. Ad ogni modo l’ho trovato interessante in quanto è davvero davvero minuscolo e rende ancora più compatta la mia Lumix GX880. Ha tre modalità di “messa a fuoco”, ha , media distanza e a fuoco infinito. Inoltre ha già integrato il “tappino” di chiusura, così almeno non lo perderemo come capita sempre con gli altri! Essendo una bella giornata ho deciso di uscire con lo skateboard elettrico e fare qualche test in esterna. Qualche ripresa in pieno campo di pannocchie… o quasi. Olympus also introduces an intriguing new lens for its Micro Four Thirds line. The BCL-15 f8.0 Body Cap Lens serves as a body cap when carrying the camera around without its interchangeable lens, and transforms to become a pan-focus snapshot lens to capture images. The lens is so thin -- just 9mm thick -- that it can easily be mistaken for a camera-mount body cap. With three glass lens elements in three groups, it can be used as a wide-angle lens equivalent with a single focal length of 30mm (35mm camera equivalent). In addition to daily use as a "pan-focus" lens featuring a wide angle, fixed f8 aperture and shallow depth of field, it is compatible with manual focusing using a lever and capable of close-up shooting as close as 30 cm. This is the Olympus 9mm f/8.0 Fisheye Body Cap Lens video test. I bought this lens just for fun. Its very compact and inexpensive little lens. We do not normally get the 9mm wide angle lens for that kind of price. Overall, I think this lens performed pretty well. We got pretty decent quality. The video doesn't look like its shot by the US$99 body cap lens. I think it would be cool to mount this lens on the Panasonic GM1 to shoot like a GoPro. I'm sure the quality should be heaps better. But of course you won't be able to get waterproof and super slowmo like the GoPro cameras. My thoughts: I think this lens should always be in your camera bag. Because its light weight and compact size. With the super wide angle of view. You can always mount it on the GM1 as a B-Roll. Because I do shoot a lot of travel videos. And I found that most of the places, and restaurants they do not let you shoot video. Especially when you're using 5D or GH3 with the big professional lenses. But if you're shooting with GM1 and this 9mm fisheye lens. They're pretty much let you do whatever you want. Cos they think its for home video.
