TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 7730 Printer – Ink Cartridges Depleted: --- If you have installed a #HP952 or 952XL black or color ink cartridge and you observe a #Cartridge #Problem ink #error or printer alert on your HP #OfficeJet Pro 7730 (#HP7730) #printer then it is possible that the internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin or pins. When the cartridge is installed these pins make contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal PRINTHEAD contact pins for visible damage. Each pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced. You should also carefully inspect the cartridge's smart chip surfaces for scratches or lines as this could cause cartridge errors to occur. If scratches are observed it is suggested to clean and reseat the cartridge to see if the problem can be not then replace the ink cartridge with a new one. TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 7730 – Instant Ink Program Breakdown: --- If you have installed a new #HP952 cartridge (or cartridges) and you observe a missing or #damaged #error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7730 printer (#HP7730) then it is possible that the internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin or pins. When the cartridge is installed these pins make contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal PRINTHEAD contact pins for visible damage. Each pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced. TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 N811d - Missing or Damaged Error: --- Following HP 950 or 951 ink cartridges installation into your HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 ( #HP8100 N811d ) printer, if an #ink #problem alert message “There is a #problem with the #ink system” or “ #Ink #System #Failure “ is observed, then this could be caused by one (or more) of the ink #cartridges not having an adequate amount of ink inside. In most cases, particularly if the cartridge was refilled, one of the cartridges is empty but the cartridge’s electronic smart chip is telling the printer it has a full ink load. The respective #ink #system #failure #error or #printer #shutdown #condition is generated due to air being ingested into the printer’s internal PRINTHEAD assembly and the presence of ink is not being #detected via #sensors inside the ink cartridge. Thus as a #safety precaution to protect the printer, the printer is shutdown to avoid burning out hundreds of small electronic #thermal ink #firing #nozzles inside the #HP #PRINTHEAD assembly. Remove all four #HP950 and #HP951 (or #HP950XL, #HP951XL) #ink #cartridges and weigh them with a scale to help determine which cartridge has an inadequate amount of ink inside (i.e. compare like cartridges against each other). The lightest ink cartridge, in comparison to other available full cartridges, will usually reveal the likely culprit. Replace suspect cartridge, or all four ink cartridges, with brand #new HP #original ink cartridges to completely eliminate root cause of both ink volume and attached chip compatibility. Note: Other printer error messages which could signify a PRINTHEAD problem include “Ink Cartridge #Failure”, “Cartridge Damaged”, “Printhead Failure” or “The following cartridges are #not #intended for use in this Printer”. HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 – Instant Ink Cartridges Cost Analysis: --- If you observe a #HP6960 printing #problem or #error (i.e. HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 #defects, poor #image #quality) including #blank #pages, white lines, #missing #black or #color #ink from #printed #images or #text, with your subscription, standard, aftermarket or refilled ink #cartridges, then it is suggested to run the #CLEAN #PRINTHEAD command from the printer’s menu. You may need to perform this action twice to help recover the printer. If the 'CLEAN PRINTHEAD' function does not correct the #print #defect #issue then it is suggested to remove all 4 cartridges from the carriage. You will want to inspect each cartridge for leaks and then re-install, verifying all cartridges properly lock into carriage assembly. If an #OfficeJet6960 output #quality issue persists then it is suggested to print a heavy colored #picture or image to see if ink can be blown thru the internal printhead, and hopefully resume normal printing. Depending on which color is missing, create a document with either 100% black color blocks or 100% Cyan, Magenta or Yellow color blocks. Print the document 2-3 times back-to-back and check for normal print output. If each subsequent print starts to look better, then the internal printhead may be recovering. However, if one color (or #colors) is not printing, such as the black ink, then the bottom of the PRINTHEAD may be clogged with dried or built up ink. It is suggested to open the printer and remove all 4 cartridges from the carriage assembly. Obtain several paper towels and fold 3 or 4 times, dampen with water. Place the damp towel into the lower tray area next to the carriage assembly; gently push the towel down to get it as flush with bottom as possible. Gently move the PRINTHEAD back and forth over the paper towel; this action will help remove residual or dried ink from the bottom surfaces of the PRINTHEAD nozzle plates. You may need to repeat this procedure with a clean towel to ensure all ink residues have been removed. Note: From the time you accessed and removed all the cartridges, you will only have approx. 5 minutes to perform the cleaning with damp towel procedure, otherwise the carriage assembly will automatically, and suddenly, return to the maintenance station. So perform this operation fast! If the error message ‘ PRINTHEAD PROBLEM ’ or numerical printhead code is observed on the printer, it is suggested you remove all four cartridges and power off the printer. Power on printer and reinstall all four cartridges to see if it clears. If the problem persists then the internal PRINTHEAD may be electrically damaged or at end of life. In the majority of cases complete printer replacement is usually required, since the PRINTHEAD is not a consumer replaceable part. TECH TIP: HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 Black Printing Problem with Fix: --- For the HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 Printer (#HP6968), if you observe a #PRINTHEAD #PROBLEM ‘, ' #FAILED PRINTHEAD ’,' ' #PRINTER #FAILURE ’, or ' PRINTER #MISSING ‘' alert with a numerical #error #code displayed (i.e. 0x6100004a, xxx03), this type of problem could be caused by a printer #firmware glitch or hang, severely #clogged Printhead #nozzles or the #carriage assembly that holds the ink cartridges is hindered by an obstruction. Perform the following steps to resolve: You should first check for #obstructions in the carriage path, by clearing any obstructions from the carriage area inside the printer. 1. With the printer on, disconnect the #power cord from the rear of the printer. 2. Open the door to access the carriage inside of the printer. 3. Look in the carriage path for debris such as crumpled paper or dislodged labels, and then remove any that you find. Next, you will want to perform a hard power #reset on the #printer. With the printer turned ON, disconnect the power cord from the printer. Wait 60 seconds. Reconnect printer power and retest. If the issue still cannot be resolved then you will need to #service the printer. It is suggested to manually clean the underside of the carriage assembly to confirm ink residue is not causing the issue. Finally, the bottom of the #HP #OfficeJet PRINTHEAD could be #clogged with dried or built up ink #residue (common problem!). It is suggested to open the printer and remove all 4 cartridges from the carriage assembly. Obtain several paper towels and fold 3 or 4 times, dampen with water. Place the damp towel into the lower tray area next to the carriage assembly; gently push the towel down to get it as flush with bottom as possible. Gently move the PRINTHEAD back and forth over the paper towel; this action will help remove #residual or #dried ink from the #bottom #surfaces of the PRINTHEAD nozzle plates. You may need to repeat this procedure with a clean towel to ensure all ink residues have been removed. Note: From the time you accessed and removed all the cartridges, you will only have approx. 5 minutes to perform the cleaning with damp towel procedure, otherwise the carriage assembly will automatically, and suddenly, return to the maintenance station. So perform this operation fast! If the error message ‘ PRINTHEAD PROBLEM ’ or numerical printhead code is still observed on the printer, it is suggested you remove all four cartridges and power off the printer. Power on printer and reinstall all four cartridges to see if it clears. If the problem persists then the internal PRINTHEAD may be electrically damaged or at end of life. In the majority of cases complete printer replacement is usually required, since the PRINTHEAD is not a consumer replaceable part. TIP: HP OfficeJet 6960 Ink Cartridge Problems: --- For poor #HP902 #black #ink #printing #problem (i.e. degraded document or photo #printing #defects) including #blank #pages, white lines, #missing #black or #color #ink from #printed #images or #text, with your HP902 #HP902XL subscription, standard, aftermarket or refilled black ink #cartridges, then it is suggested to run the #CLEAN #PRINTHEAD command from the #HP #OfficeJet 6960 (#HP6960) printer’s menu. You may need to perform this action twice to help recover the printer. If the 'CLEAN PRINTHEAD' function does not correct the #print #defect #issue then it is suggested to remove all 4 cartridges from the carriage. You will want to inspect each cartridge for leaks and then re-install, verifying all cartridges properly lock into carriage assembly. If an #output quality issue persists then it is suggested to print a heavy colored #picture or image to see if ink can be blown thru the internal printhead, and hopefully resume normal printing. Depending on which color is missing, create a document with either 100% black color blocks or 100% Cyan, Magenta or Yellow color blocks. Print the document 2-3 times back-to-back and check for normal print output. If each subsequent print starts to look better then the internal printhead may be recovering. However, if the #T6L98AN or #T6M14AN black ink cartridge is not printing then the bottom of the PRINTHEAD may be clogged with dried or built up ink #residue.
