Dell PowerEdge R340 - In this video, we will discuss the compatible RAM and CPU for the R340 server as well as physically install the modules. We will go over some general tips and tricks to help make your install successful. Sit back and enjoy. For starters, the R340 is part of Dell's 14th Generation of servers. It has 1 CPU socket, which is an LGA1151 socket. There are a number of different processor options. What we see as the most prevalent are the Intel Xeon E-2100 and E-2200 series CPUs. You can also utilze Intel Pentium, Celeron or i3 series. Regarding the memory, the R340 has 4 DIMM slots running on DDR4 architecture. Speeds include 2133 MT/s, 2400 MT/s or 2666 MT/s. Sizes include 4GB 8GB 16GB. Meaning the max configuration for the Dell PowerEdge R340 is 64GB via (4 x 16GB) 2666 MT/s ECC Unbuffered Server Memory. Which brings us to the next important point. You can only use 1 type of memory for the R340: ECC Unbuffered, also known as a Server UDIMM. No you cannot use ECC Registered (RDIMM). No you cannot use Load Reduced (LRDIMM). Only ECC Unbuffered. As discussed, there are 4 DIMM slots. There are 2 memory channels and each memory channel has 2 DIMMs. Dell has labeled and color coded the channels to make it easy to identify. The start of each change is white. The second DIMM in the channel is black. If you are using 2 DIMMs total, then you should insert them in the 2 white DIMM slots. В чем корневая разница между этим двумя решениями я рассказывал в прямом эфире "Регистратор или сервер+софт": Сегодня же у нас стоит задача обновления сервера на одном из Объектов нашего давнего Заказчика, соответственно пока сервер в офисе на преднастройке, я решил снять небольшой гайд/обзор/рассказ о правильном (на мой взгляд) сервере для видеонаблюдения. Правильный сервер дает несколько преимуществ: 1. Повышает эффективность системы видеонаблюдения: есть вычислительный ресурс для работы всевозможных "внешних" аналитических модулей, множественные варианты транскодирования видео для всевозможных клиентов (от видеостены, через смартфоны, SmartTV, html браузеры, домофоны и до специализированных устройств "умный дом", raspberry и т.д.).. 2. Повышает отказоустойчивость системы - резервировать можно блоки питания (подавать независимые силовые линии от разных поставщиков электроэнергии), данные - отказоустойчивость поднимается за счет использования RAID массивов как для видеоархива, так и для системных разделов. Естественно, сами винчестеры можно менять "на ходу", не останавливая работу системы. Системы видеонаблюдения на основе сервера + ПО (VMS) используют как в критических отраслях, где важна безостановочная работы (банки, крупные промышленные объекты), так и просто на Объектах с большим числом камер, поскольку построенная на регистраторах крупная территориально-распределенная система оказывается по сути множеством маленьких систем видеонаблюдения на одном Объекте. Серверы (вообще) условно делятся на "классы": - премиум бренды А-класса (IBM, DELL, HP, Lenovo и т.д.) со своими старшими/средними/лоу-кост линейками; - бренды B-класса (по-проще/доступнее), например Supermicro; - самосбор (из серверных комплектующих); - самосбор (из десктопных комплектующих). Все 4 варианта уместны, все 4 встречаются в жизни. У всех решений свои плюсы, свои минусы. Но очень часто бывают ситуации, что самосбор на серверных комплектующих практически равен по цене готовому решению из B-класса. Поэтому мы уже лет 7-8 не устанавливаем "самосбор", и наши Заказчики спокойно покупают у нас правильные решения. Периодически работаю и с А-классом, хочу вкратце показать возможности данного оборудования на примере интерфейса Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC). Контроллер iDRAC — это аппаратный компонент, который находится на материнской плате сервера и позволяет системным администраторам обновлять и контролировать системы Dell, даже когда сервер выключен. Контроллер iDRAC также обеспечивает веб-интерфейс и интерфейс командной строки, позволяя администраторам выполнять задачи удаленного управления. Вариант с iDRAC предлагается почти для всех текущих серверов Dell. В А-классе часто можно встретить необходимость доплаты за данный функционал, т.е. производители в базе могут предлагать "базовую версию", а за доплату - расширенную. Например, у DELL это будет "iDRAC Express" и "iDRAC Enterprise", у Hewlett-Packard это "iLo" и "iLo Advanced" и т.д. В некоторых модельных линейках расширенная версия может быть в базе, а в некоторых (low-cost модельные ряды) отсутствовать вовсе. Сегодня у нас столе iDRAC Enterprise и я расскажу о его некоторых (далеко не всех) фишках. Hi there Doug Stuman with IT Creations. We finally got the Dell EMC PowerEdge MX7000, Dell’s replacement for the M1000 Enclosure. This is a 7U chassis with support for up to 8x single-width server sleds, four double-wide sleds or a combination of the two. If you will recall, the M1000 blade server chassis is a 10U behemoth released in 2012. It offered support for more blades, but this one, even at 7U still offers better performance and capabilities in a smaller space. It’s also designed to support up to 3x new CPU generations from both AMD and Intel, but so far only Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported. It’s a cost-effective flexible architecture that’s easy to scale-out offering on-demand allocation of compute, storage and networking pools. Yes, this review of the Dell MX7000 enclosure is a little late in coming but it’s not like we qualify for review units from Dell. And I have tried. Oh yes, I have tried. Dell EMC PowerEdge R640 Server Overview | The R640 is an enterprise 1U server packing a powerful punch. In our video, we will review the general fundamentals of the PowerEdge R640 as well as show you how to properly configure & install your memory. For starters, the R640 is part of the impressive Dell 14th Generation family. This is the next gen to the very popular Dell PowerEdge R630 server. One of the big improvements will be the CPUs. Dell EMC R640’s are powered by dual Intel Scalable processors such as Silver 4100 series, Gold 5100 & 6100 series as well as Platinum 8100 series. LGA3647 socket. There are 24 DIMM slots supporting DDR4 memory. This is the second generation of DDR4 based servers from Dell now with faster speeds. The Dell R640 has 4 different chassis styles. 4 Bay LFF. 8 Bay SFF. 10 Bay SFF. 10 Bay NVMe SFF. The Dell EMC PowerEdge R640 can operate with three types of memory: ECC Registered (RDIMM), Load Reduced (LRDIMM) or Intel Optane Memory. ECC Reg and Load Reduced DDR4 are the more common options. Intel Optane Memory is a new technology. ECC Registered will have size options of 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and up to 64GB. Unfortunately 128GB ECC Reg DIMMs will not work. Max configuration with ECC Reg will be (24 x 64GB) DDR4 PC4 3200MHz Server Memory. With Load Reduced, however, you can use 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and up to 128GB. Max configuration with LRDIMMs will be 3TB (24 x 128GB) DDR4 PC4 3200MHz Server Memory. Speed options are the same: 2133MHz, 2400MHz, 2666MHz, 2933MHz or 3200MHz. With Intel Optane, the DIMMs sizes are massive. 128GB, 256GB or 512GB. Incredibly impressive. Speeds are a little slower at 2133MHz, 2400MHz and 2666MHz. You can load 12 of the DIMM slots with 512GB DIMMs. You cannot load all 24 slots with Intel Optane. Only 12 slots. And you must you the start of the memory channel for each Optane module. You can mix the Intel Optane Modules with LRDIMMs. Meaning the max would be (12 x 512GB) Intel Optane + (12 x 128GB) LRDIMM for a total max of of RAM! Wow! There are two processors and each processor controls twelve DIMM slots. There are six memory channels per processor. This means there are to two DIMM slots per memory channel. Dell has conveniently color coded and labeled all the DIMM slots. This will be very helpful to properly install your memory upgrades. Always install modules in the first slot of the memory channel. The first slot of every memory channel starts with white, then black. Today we’ll be taking a look at the Dell EMC PowerEdge XR2 Server. This is the new generation of rugged PowerEdge XR enclosures and the successor to the PowerEdge R420XR. This may come as a surprise to you but not every server room is in a building. The Dell XR2 rugged industrial server was developed for harsh environments and made to withstands shock, vibration, dust humidity, and electromagnetic interference. Whether that equates to an EM burst I don’t know, but these are used by the military and for maritime applications or other hot, humid, and generally disagreeable environments. In a nut shell, it supports two Scalable processors, 8x drive bays, and up to 30TB of storage. I’ll be honest with you, I was expecting it to look a little different, maybe not outside the case but inside. What I found is that the Dell XR2 server looks very much like a standard 1U server.
