Decided to put a bell again on my Brompton and spend a bit more. Saw this unique ring form factor of the Knog Oi bell. Bought the Luxe version (size small) due to the many complaints on the original Oi with a plastic hammer that easily gets deformed or broken. Honestly, my usual "higop" method of alerting people ahead (sucking air through pursed lips hehe) is louder thus more effective, but maybe a bit rude for some (don't know, and I'm definitely not whistling/cat calling anyone). So this bell gives a bit of refinement to the task, plus some nice looks on the bike too. Weird that it has to be called "Oi", like a redneck/yob/bogan/tambay calling over someone from afar. Pairing it with the word "Luxe" made it even more confusing. Maybe its just my ears, but the sound doesn't seem consistent. I feel its the way the hammer was pulled back and let go, at times it sounds crisp and lingers, sometimes dull and you feel the vibration on the handle bar more. Its also not the loudest of bells, but maybe that's what some want. Don't expect to warn motorist on the road with this. Its more effective for pavements and parks, and not rattling people of your presence with its pleasant ding. Too nice sounding that's it doesn't register to some that you're approaching them. Consult the size guide here to decide which size is right for you. ✔ THE SOUND With a spring-loaded actuator built into the mount, the strike of the bell is firm and fast, allowing a good balance of volume and longevity of sound. Our bell actually has several pitch tones – one core and several supportive higher tones to ensure it’s unmistakable and safely heard. ✔ THE FIT What about getting it on the bar? Just pop it over, give the hex screw a quick tighten up, and you’re good to go. For handlebars measuring 23.8 – 26 mm in diameter we have supplied a spacer to help the Oi fit snugly and securely to your bars. This can be found discretely tucked into the reverse of the grey packaging insert. ✔ THE MOUNT What about the handle-bar cables? No worries. Built into the shape of the mount is a cable management system. So not only does it allow the bell to look and sound uninterrupted, it also helps gather your cables (for the organiser inside us all). ✔ THE LOOK The Oi bell’s shape originates from its home – the handle bar.
