Knog is best known for their attractive and creative be-seen style cycling lights whether it’s the fun Frog lights or the Blinder Road series. The new Blinder range are high-output headlights designed for road or mountain biking and offer advanced technology at competitive price points. We have the $ Blinder 900 here but there is also a $ Blinder 600 and an even brighter $ Blinder 1300 version available. As the product names imply, the Blinder 900 achieves 900 lumen of output from four LEDs. The Blinder 900 uses the latest 21700 lithium ion battery with USB-C charging and a hr runtime range. Knog has incorporated six different output modes including constant and flash options for daytime riding. One of the coolest features of the headlight is the flexible rail style mount that can be attached to either side of the light for versatile mounting. One of the best features of the Blinder 900 lights is the clever dual-sided rail style mounting design. This means you can clip on the handlebar or GoPro adapter to the bottom or top of the headlight which allows the light to be used on handlebars or on the bottom of out-front mounts. The advantage of this design is that the power button always stays on top rather than being hidden on the bottom as it would be with standard headlights mounted upside down. Knog includes two mounts, a handlebar mount with a durable rubber strap and a GoPro adapter. Both mounts use a clip-on rail style attachment that allows them to be moved forward or backwards to accommodate different handlebar setups. To attach the light to the mounts you need to ensure the locking tab is open and push the light onto the rail. Our only issue with the design is that removing the light from the mounts takes a fair amount of force. The Knog Blinder headlights combine a single piece industrial-grade CNC aluminum housing with a four LED lens design. Design wise these have an elongated shape with a square cross sectional shape that looks sleek and modern. The Blinder 900 is IP67 rated with an internal 21700 battery that can be charged via the USB-C charging port on the bottom of the light. The body has a black anodization that looks good and is robust enough for daily use or accidental drops. Premium details such as CNC’d heat sinks on the front of the light and a circular cutout on the side help dissipate heat and make it easier to hold the light. Putting a new lithium battery in a USB rechargeable, Knog Blinder bicycle light. I posted a similar project on my website and had enough people contact me for more info that I was minded to film it next time it needed doing. Four years later, one of my other heavily used bike lights is finally behaving erratically enough to warrant the effort. The original battery is a PL603131 (6mm x 31mm x 31mm) lithium battery. The replacement is a much more common 603030. Easy to find on ebay and basically the same capacity. This time the dud battery was just worn out and needing charging every ride. Starting to die during rides. The first one I fixed was bought at the same time, about five years ago, and died of a puffy battery. Some heat might make releasing the front metal trim easier. Be careful popping the glue seam with multi-grips or a vice. You don't want to over-do the violence and crack the housing. Even so, it should be assumed that the light is no longer water-tight, no matter how well you glue it back together. In this video I snipped the USB charging wires for better access. Not strictly necessary but it was easy enough to re-solder them and it made the perspective clearer for the video. I also checked the battery voltage before installation as these had been in storage for quite a while.

Since their 2012 introduction, the Knog Blinder Road lights have been a popular light among road cyclists. The Blinder Road lights are known for their compact lightweight designs and have been offered in various configurations over the years. In this review, we’ll be looking at the latest Blinder Road 400 which benefits from numerous improvements in design and LED technology. The headlight retails for $ and offers 400 lumen output from dual CREE LEDs. Each LED has a specific beam shape with the left-hand-side LED having a narrow 12 degree beam while the other LED offers a wide 32 degree beam. As with the previous versions of the light, the Blinder Road 400 has a clever integrated flip-out USB-A connector for cable-less charging. One of the perks of Knog products are their stylish yet functional designs which is clear to see with the Blinder Road 400. The light has a wide and thin profile with rounded corners that places the LEDs side-by-side in a metal housing. Metal fins wrap around the housing to help with heat dissipation and break up the otherwise smooth housing. The flat lens housing has a translucent surround and frames the dimpled lens reflectors. Despite the impressive IP67 rating, which allows the Blinder Road 400 to be submerged under certain conditions, there are four visible bolts on the lens face attaching it to the housing. The rear of the light has a rubber coating that makes it easy to handle the light but seems to quickly attract dust. The Blinder Road features Knog’s unique fastening system that uses a multi-piece strap mount with a durable clip design. One side of the elastic rubber strap is removable to allow for the Blinder Road 400 to be installed on 22-28mm diameter bars as well as a longer strap for 29-35mm bars. The straps attach to the light using flexible attachments which allows the Road 400 to easily be used on non round bars as well.
