Stanley FatMax Pro Auto-Lock Tape 5m/16ft Every tradesman and DIY’er will have a tape measure in their tool kit. It is the most commonly used tool. Stanley are one of the leading brands in bringing technology and innovation to the measuring and marking sector, and this FatMax ‘Pro’ Auto-Lock 5m (16ft) tape has been engineered with the professional user in mind. Firstly, the locking mechanism works in exactly the opposite way to a normal tape measure. Simply pull the blade out and it stays there. It only retracts when you press the lock button. The measuring blade itself has a special Mylar coating which resists abrasion (something that is all around on a construction site), providing up to 10 times the life of a standard uncoated blade. In addition to this, Stanley have added BladeArmor® protection on the first 8cm of the blade, as this is the area that is used the most, and would get much more wear than the rest of the blade. This combination of protection offers up to double the working life of the blade against other coated tapes. The blade design also provides the user with a 3m standout, which enables the user to measure most standard boards and ceilings without the blade buckling. As well as a standard end hook, this tape measure has 2 unique features. Firstly, there is an extra-large hook that can be stored on the side of the tape. Simply clip this over the end hook rivets and this will enable you to hook the tape on larger objects such as boards to prevent it from pinging off when measuring long lengths, or underneath boards or joists. There is also a detachable magnet which also clips over the end hook rivets. This is invaluable when measuring non-ferrous items or metal that is overhead, as the magnet will hold the tape onto the work piece and enable you to take an accurate measurement. This also stores in the side of the tape when not in use. This is a valuable feature as many users only require a magnetised end occasionally, as in many areas, the magnet may pick up small metal particles or swarf and clog the blade when it recoils into the body. Having a separate magnetic end will prevent this. The case of the tape has been developed to provide comfort during use and features large, soft-grip zones. There is also a robust belt hook to enable professionals to clip it to their work belt easily, thus enabling it to always be at hand.
