The Outwell Reddick is a great tent if you have one or two small children, or maybe as a 'weekender' tent if your main tent is very big. This was one of the tents I wanted to test and review this year, and Outwell kindly agreed to send me this sample. It's an air tent, so you just need to inflate it. Another lantern in this video, this time one from Outwell. The Outwell Opal Lantern is rechargeable, dimmable, can be used as a power bank and has a Bluetooth speaker and hands-free calling. It puts out a lovely warm light and looks stylish. It gets marked down on practicality though, as you can see in the video, as you can't see the controls in the dark without turning on another light!

This video was shot between the 30th of October 2020 and the 1st of November 2020. Just before the 2nd U.K. Covid-19 Lockdown At times this year I have felt a need to get away from it all. Time to spend just by myself and by late October 2020 I was more than ready for that. So I booked a weekend away at the West Runton Camping and Caravanning Club site ( of which I am a member ) near to Cromer in Norfolk, U.K. Sadly Mother Nature was less than kind with high winds at times and rain occurring frequently. Though despite the weather I absolutely loved it. I got a chance to try my new stove which appears in this video and try out the Quechua Air Seconds 3XL tent from Decathlon at a campsite rather than my back garden. Whilst it was just a couple of nights. I know it did me a world of good. Reaffirming that I absolutely LOVE camping. SEE MY HISTORY PAGE ON FACEBOOK : A walk in the village of Overstrand on the north coast of Norfolk, 3km east of Cromer. Starting off on the Royal Cromer Golf Course, I follow a path at the top of the cliff along the sea front before walking through the village. As can be seen in this film, coastal erosion is a major problem. The soft boulder clay cliffs slump because of the water running through the clay, and the resulting material on the beach is removed by the succeeding high tides. And so the process continues over the years. In the neighbouring village of Sidestrand, the whole church was moved back from the cliff edge in the 19th century, though the tower of the church was left standing on the cliff top. Out to sea there used to be another town but was unfortunately victim to the seas erosion on East Anglia, this town has been nicknamed Understrand. The London journalist and travel writer Clement Scott came to Overstrand in 1883, christened the area ''Poppyland'', and wrote about the church tower on the cliff edge and its "Garden of Sleep". While in Overstrand he stayed at the Mill House with miller Alfred Jermy and his daughter Louie. Louie became "the Maid of the Mill" in his articles about ''Poppyland''. Scott had many London contacts in the theatrical world, and his writings led a number of them and others from London society to come to Overstrand. Some bought land in the village and had houses built there, and for a while the village was the place to visit. A large hotel was built on the cliff edge, though this slid into the sea in the 1950s. Whilst the large houses of the gentry have largely passed from private ownership to other uses, the visitor to Overstrand can still appreciate the development that took place at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Treehouse architect Alex Shirley-Smith wanted to create a portable treehouse, a kind of ready-made, a floating shelter that could be assembled in any backyard, wood, or even city streets. In 2010 Shirley-Smith released several tree tent prototypes inspired by spiders' webs. "A spider always uses three anchoring points and the web finds its own position in space that's a circle in between any of those 3 points. So as long as you've got 3 anchoring points this tent will find its own central position to create its own shape inside that triangle. The whole thing is sort of taken from spider's web technology or you know, what exists in nature. Biomicmicry." After refining 11 prototypes, Shirley-Smith and partner Kirk Kirchev finally released a production model tree tent- the Tentsile Stingray. Using just 3 tree straps, 2 poles, and one flysheet, the Stingray will shelter up to 4 people in mid-air. It takes about 10 minutes to set-up and a few minutes to take down. And best of all, it is one size fits all. The tent can be used as a camping alternative- to keep you comfortably suspended above any animals, bugs, or uncomfortable rocks-, but the design could also prove the basis for a new type of eco-village. Kirchev dreams of one day creating a community of (much larger) tensile structures where portable villages could be mounted and disassembled in a day, leaving little impact on the forest floor. This was filmed last year (2019) in the days running up to Christmas after a particularly stressful day of Christmas shopping! I decided to drive for over an hour and a half down to Greatstone on the coast near New Romney in Kent to do a solo wild camp on the beach in the sand dunes with my most recent shelter purchase, the Vango Helvellyn 200 tent. In the morning I did a short 3 mile circular walk. The weather to begin with was awful, heavy rain and lots of nearby flooding and the wind didn't help much either, but I had the right tent for the job and I found a great little spot tucked down behind the sand dunes. It was also the first time I had used a 2 person tent on my own. The space!

A mile circular day walk from a new book of Cambridgeshire pub walks. This walk took in the villages of Hinxton and Ickleton, near Cambridge. We followed a section of the River Cam and saw an old water mill which was a 17th century timber-framed corn mill with an adjoining 19th century miller's cottage. This was filmed during the Christmas break of 2019.

Pitching your new tent can be an intimidating prospect when you don't know how. But here are a few tips and pointers we'll show you that building your new home from home is actually pretty easy. Most tents these days are the tunnel type where the poles all run in a line, these are the simplest type to pitch so here's how you do it. It's essential that before you hit the road for your camping holiday that you check that the tent is complete -- sometimes they come in multiple bags. So a practice pitch in the garden is the best idea. It will also mean then when you head to the campsite you'll already be an expert! Firstly get everyone involved, the more hands the better. And don't rush - slow and methodical will win the day!. Lay the tent out making sure you know where everything is. Outer, inner, poles, pegs The poles may be different lengths but will be colour coded -- with one section different to the others this will match with a tab on the tent itself. There'll also be a big bag of pegs. I usually put a handful in my back pocket so I've got them when I need them. This tent is tunnel style with a sewn in groundsheet which is often the case -- to check what type of tent you have please have a look on our website or pop in store. This is the Zenobia 6 but the principals can be applied to all sewn in tunnel tents. Have a look at where you want the front entrance of your tent to be. There's nothing like a nice view in the morning. If you're in a campsite that doesn't have specific pitches, look for a dry, flat spot that ideally isn't under trees. Peg out each corner then start slipping the poles through their sleeves, this is a much easier job with two of you, pulling the tent fabric back over the pole as you push it through. Follow this process for all your poles matching the coloured section with the coloured tabs. Un zip the doors otherwise you'll create a vacuum inside the tent making it hard to get up. Pop the pin in one end and start to lift the tent up with one of you on each side. If you're stuggling and have a spare pair of hands sometimes it can help to stand inside the tent and lift the fabric. Remember it should be quite easy so if there is resistance don't force it as this can cause damage.. The pin will now go in the other end and your halfway there. Simply repeat this process with the remaining poles. The tent might need a bit of a re shuffle to get it all straight, just make sure everything looks parallel. Now the guylines, these are vital for keeping the tent stable in the wind. Even if you turn up on the campsite on a beautiful still evening, make sure every guyline is used, you never know when a bit of wind might pick up, you really don't want to be out in your pyjamas in the middle of the night! The guylines should be pegged out at the natural angle by which they are attached to the tent. Resist the urge to pull them tight as you'll distort the tent and they can be adjusted later. Bang the pegs in at about 45degress to get maximum resistance, if you hit a rock, just pull it out and have another go. It's a good idea to stick the bedrooms in whilst one of you is doing the guylines, these are dead easy once you've found the coloured clip follow the seams hooking it on as you go. Your tent is now up so it's time to light the barbeque! Dome tents with cross poles are put up in a similar way but a little more care needs to be taken when threading the poles through and you're more likely to need someone inside the tent pushing the poles up. If you have a tent without a sewn in groundsheet the technique is slightly different as you put the poles in, then concertina the tent up from one end -- like this.

Riding the East Anglia RHTT Train 1 - Available on DVD & Blu-ray from A cab ride on a Network Rail yellow Class 57/3 on water cannon duties! Every year during the autumn a series of trains operate around the UK aimed at combating the effect of wet leaves on the rail head. Often referred to as 'water cannon' trains or 'leafbusters', various loco-hauled sets and MPVs have the task of keeping the rails clear by spraying them with a high pressure blast of water or a layer of adhesion modifier. The DRS operated depot at Stowmarket in East Anglia is one of the most important on the system during the leaf-fall season and is the base of four loco-hauled sets, running on a 24-hour basis. As well as keeping the all-important Norwich to London Liverpool Street main line clean, nearly all the secondary and branch lines in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk are also treated. For 2012, Class 57s were based at Stowmarket with six DRS Class 57/0s supplemented by three Network Rail 57/3s. This is a cab ride on what is known as the East Suffolk rail head treatment train, filmed on a fine autumn day in October 2012. Running in top and tail mode, yellow liveried 57306 and 57310 provide the power on a circular out-and-back journey. From Stowmarket, the train heads to Ipswich and then along the scenic East Suffolk line to Lowestoft, then Norwich and to Cromer. Highlights of the journey include passing over the swing bridges at Oulton Broad, Somerleyton and Reedham and this was also the final week of RETB signalling on the East Suffolk line which was filmed in the cab.
