Follow along with Rebecca and Nathan on their YouTube Channel "Always A Friday":
Perhaps better known for their bike and roof racks, Thule has been in the bag market for quite some time now and their range is one of the most expansive we’ve seen. From crossover duffel bags and hydration packs to camera bags and, of course, travel backpacks—Thule has you covered. Or do they? Can a company that started off making roof racks transition to making great travel backpacks? We decided to investigate.
We’ll be testing the Thule Subterra Travel Backpack 34L from their Subterra range—described by Thule as “Stylish, versatile and built to last, the Thule Subterra collection offers luggage, backpacks, laptop bags and sleeves that help you put together a great look for your travels.” The Subterra 34L is a dual purpose pack that can function as a travel bag or everyday backpack. We’re curious to see if they can pull this off.
The Thule Subterra 34L is a great looking pack that works well as a daypack or travel bag. The usual pitfalls of a roll top bag are fixed by the two side access zips and the side pocket expands enough to fit a surprisingly large water bottle—and you can barely tell it’s even there when not in use! This is a pack that’ll have you covered on a weekend city break or meeting up with a business partner at a coffee house, with enough additional features to hold and organize everything you may have with you.

The Thule Landmark 40L is a carry-on sized backpack that's designed specifically for traveling around the world. View Our Full Review:

Jet-setting goals? There’s a pack for that. We review plenty of bags here at Pack Hacker, but the Thule Landmark 40L is designed specifically for traveling around the world—so you know we had to check it out. Thule describes the Landmark as a “travel pack ready for several months of passport-stamped adventures” with key features like a detachable daypack and built-in safety components.
First things first, let’s talk options. The Thule Landmark is available in both a 60 and 70 liter version in addition to the 40 liter pack that we’ve been testing. They're all pretty similar; however, the 60 and 70 liter versions come with a detachable day pack on the front. That’s not usually our style, since we prefer the one-bag carry-on approach, but it’s there if you want it.
We should also just take a second to clarify that a 70 (and 60, for that matter) liter backpack is truly massive. It’s definitely not going to work as a carry-on bag, and it’s not going to be something you casually walk around with. We rarely feel the need to use packs over 40 liters, even for perpetual travel, but your mileage may vary.
A unique option on the Thule Landmark is that each size comes in either a men’s or women’s fit. The differences between them are slight changes in the harness system, which affect the way the bag carries. That’s not an option you see every day on a travel pack, and we like that Thule went in this direction to make the bag even more customizable for the right fit.
The Thule Landmark 40L has a lot going for it: we like that's it's available in both a men's and women's fit, we like the smart thinking behind the Safe Zone compartment concept, and the sleek zippered side water bottle pocket is a nice touch. The Landmark also comes from a brand we know and trust, thanks to many positive experiences. But the downsides are significant—the pack is made with a lesser-quality exterior fabric, the carry could be more comfortable, and access to the compartments is more time-consuming than we'd expect. All that said, we’ve been having fun testing Thule’s first shot at the adventure travel market and we believe the Landmark is worth serious consideration.

Here's a tour of all the latest Thule Backpacks including the Thule Covert DSLR Backpack, the Thule Accent Backpack, the Thule Travel Backpack and the Thule Subterra Carry-on and Check-in bags that Thule of Sweden currently has on the market. Overall, we have really been enjoying the Tortuga Setout Divide. It truly is everything we wish the Homebase had been—it’s got a nice, tight design and we’re confident that the materials used will hold up for years to come. Plus, the expandable functionality makes this one of the most versatile bags we’ve tested to date. With only a few minor gripes about the hip belt and lack of water-resistant zips, we really think Tortuga has done a nice job with this pack and it is clear that each new release from Tortuga is getting better.

HOW I REVIEW:
As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
LINKS:
For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals.
For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.
FULL DISCLOSURE:
This video is not sponsored. While I sometimes get bags for free, I usually have to pay custom fees and in addition to that all my videos have lots of production costs. Therefore I invest my own money into all of these video and have no intention to be biased towards a product or company. All opinions in this video are my own unless stated otherwise.

Minaal Carry-on 2.0 Review | A Popular One Bag Travel Backpack for Digital Nomads & Remote Workers
The Minaal Carry-on 2.0 is a roomy, minimalist-styled backpack that has some great features and only a few minor faults. A solid option for one-bag travel. View Our Full Review:

This video review is featured on
During our constant search for the perfect one-bag travel setup, it was only a matter of time until we tested out some gear from Minaal—the company whose motto is “tools for efficient travel.” Seriously, you can’t get more on-brand than that. We consider ourselves experts in efficient travel, after all, so we had to take a look and see if their stuff really lives up to the motto.
Two of our most experienced Pack Hacker team members have been testing out both the grey and black Minaal Carry-on 2.0. We’ve been testing the grey one for 8 months and the black one for 1.5 months—seeing as it came out… 1.5 months ago.
We’re going to let you in on a little secret right off the bat—this pack has held up well and can hold its own among some of the best one-bag travel packs out there. At least in the first 8 months, it has definitely proven itself as a solid tool for efficient travel.
It’s got a pretty clean look, as you can see. They’ve definitely got the minimalist look down. The branding is very subtle—just a few small, simple logos throughout the pack—and there’s not an overwhelming amount of straps or doo-dads on the outside of the pack. The straps it does have are actually fairly hard to see on the black version, which is nice—everything blends in pretty seamlessly. And even if this thing is fully packed, you’re not going to get that dreaded, mini-fridge-on-your-back look. It’s pretty slim and streamlined, overall.
The Carry-on 2.0 has a capacity of about 35 liters. Why “about?” Why is it not a set-in-stone number? Well, the folks over at Minaal have some beef with this whole liter-capacity system—they don’t like to claim a certain capacity because there are really no set standards in the backpack world when it comes to these measurements.
And honestly, they’re not wrong. It’s not terribly uncommon to find that a certain 30L backpack actually holds more than another 40L backpack made by a different brand. But we like numbers, so we’ll stick with the 35L measurement for congruency. To put it in simpler terms—like virtually all one-bag travel packs, this thing holds a lot of stuff and can still be used as a carry-on bag for pretty much all major airlines.
The Carry-on 2.0 from Minaal is a stellar bag for one-bag travelers. It offers a tremendous amount of room, a good number of user-friendly pockets, plus a handful of other nice features. In grey or black, this pack looks great and carries well to boot. The overall durability is solid—this is a pack that should, in theory, hold up to years of usage. Minor issues include the water bottle holder, hideaway strap system, and rapid accumulation of dust on the fabric. But to be fair, the pros largely outweigh the cons. For one bag travelers, the Minaal Carry-on 2.0 is hard to beat.

The Peak Design Travel Backpack is finally here. If you’ve been following us or you’re into backpacks, photography, or travel—you’ve probably heard of Peak Design. These guys have been absolutely killing it, making some of the most unique and innovative designs the backpack and photography world have ever seen.
We’ve been testing this thing out for three weeks and it’s seen use across multiple US states and a few flights. Much like their other gear, our first impression is that this bag has a lot of smart, innovative thinking, and it most definitely lives up to the hype.
The Peak Design Travel Backpack is a well-executed travel bag from a company with an excellent track-record of bringing innovative and unique designs to the backpack world. This is a bag that can easily handle one bag travel, photography, or digital nomading with ease—and it will be a joy to use for any of those activities. We have a couple small gripes—mainly the zipper choice, sternum strap, and side handles—but all of the amazing, innovative thinking that has gone into this bag vastly outweigh the few minor downsides. A winner, for sure.

Cotopaxi is the name of an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, in Ecuador. It’s also the name of a company that manufactures outdoor gear and is trying to do some good in the world. We’ll let you guess which one this review is about.
Founded in 2014 as a Certified B-Corp, Cotopaxi donates 2% of their revenue to help alleviate poverty. They also partner with “organizations like International Rescue Committee, Educate Girls, and Proximity Designs to provide health, education, and livelihoods in developing countries.” They do great work and make great products, one of which is the Allpa 35L Travel Pack.
The Allpa is a 35-liter, carry-on compliant pack possessing many great features and design elements. Weighing 3lb 7oz (1560g) and measuring 20 x 12 x 8in (51 x 30 x 20cm), it’s on the heavier side of things compared to other bags with the same capacity—though it isn’t egregiously hefty. Much of the weight comes from the sturdy materials Cotopaxi chooses to use: TPU-coated 1000D polyester makes up the front of the pack while 1680D ballistic nylon comprises the side, top, and bottom paneling. This combination gives the Allpa a toughness that’s hard to beat.
Overall, the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Travel Pack is pleasantly hard to characterize. It can function as both a hiking pack, a work bag, or a travel pack. After our tests, we feel that it fits the travel pack role best. With it’s carry-on compliance, refined design and ample space, the Allpa is a great choice for anyone looking for a bag suited for a long weekend or a shorter vacation. While it may not be well received by taller users, if you find it comfortable to wear you won’t be disappointed.
