The Knog Blinder taillights have been a popular series thanks to their creative illumination pattern and sleek form factor. With the new Knog Blinder R-150, Knog has taken the Blinder series to a new level by incorporating a dedicated focused LED on top of the COB LEDs to improve long-distance visibility. The Blinder R-150 retails for $ and offers an impressive 150 lumen output. Knob has combined a multi-channel COB LED along with a single focused LED to ensure the taillight is visible from close and far distances equally well. There are nine creative output modes to choose from which offer runtimes from 2.5 (burn mode) to 50 hours (eco mode). Knog has also incorporated some clever features such as a cable-free design with a built-in USB-A connector on the mount. The Knog Blinder R-150 utilizes their familiar flexible hinge with rubber strap design that is integrated into the base of the taillight. There are three rubber strap options from small to large which cover seatpost diameters from 22-32+ mm and even aero seatposts. Attached to the rubber strap is a plastic clip with a metal rod that hooks onto a corresponding notch on the other side of the mount. Surprisingly, there is no angled rubber pad on the rear of the taillight which means the R-150 sits flat against the seatpost and not parallel to the road like most taillights. As a clever detail, Knog has incorporated a USB-A connector into one side of the mount. It’s connected to an articulating arm which allows it to easily be plugged into a USB port, a much more accessible location than the Knog Blinder Road headlights, for charging or flexing around a seatpost. The Knog Blinder R-150 is a purpose-built light that is specifically designed for road cyclists. With its dual-lighting element design Knog has added this bottom focused LED to ensure the taillight is visible even from long distances. Otherwise the Blinder R-150 has a familiar slim rectangular profile with an extended lens for side visibility as the Knog Blinder Traffic and other variations. This is a one-piece design with the mount directly molded into the rear of the taillight. The rear of the taillight has a rubber coating which prevents the R-150 from scratching seatposts and makes it easier to handle. As with other Knog products, the rubber coating is a dust magnet which makes it difficult to keep the rubber looking clean.... ... Knog is well known for their unique and attractive bike headlights and taillights. The new Blinder V series continues that legacy by incorporating their popular design elements with the latest COB LED technology. In this review we’ll be looking at the Blinder V Traffic which has a traffic light style three block pattern. Knog also offers a Blinder V Bolt variation which has nearly identical specifications but has a lightning bolt illumination pattern. Retail price on Blinder V lights is $ and they are capable of upto 100 lumen output from the COB LED setup. A clever built-in USB-A connector in the mount eliminates the need for charging cables. There are eight unique output modes that trigger the three blocks of LEDs in different patterns as well as upto 50 hour runtime. As with other Knog taillights, the Blinder V uses a clever rubber o-ring style mount with a twist. Instead of just having plastic hooks on both sides and a flexible rubber o-ring, Knog attaches a plastic and metal clasp to one side of the o-ring which fits over a hook. This modified design provides a more secure fit than just an o-ring. The mount itself even features a USB-A connector built into it which is a clever detail. The Blinder V can be used on standard round or aero seatposts thanks to the circular center cutout (i.e. similar to the Magicshine Seemee 180), a flexible side hook and three different length o-rings provided. It’s a nice detail to see which allows the taillight to be mounted on most bikes. A non-slip rubber coating on the rear of the taillight prevents the Blinder V from moving around. Our only complaint is that there is no angle adjustment or built in angle offset to account for the fact that seat posts are angled backwards. That means the Blinder V sits parallel to your seatpost instead of being perpendicular to the ground. With a V profile, the Blinder V was designed to be a sleek and aerodynamic rear taillight. It’s a clear evolution of the Knog Mob V with the same rectangular profile and large front face. The most obvious improvement with the Blinder V is the use of a COB (circuit on board) LED design which has multiple small LEDs embedded into the face. Not only does this setup look sleeker, but it creates a more uniform and attractive illumination pattern. Knog offers two versions of the Blinder V, the Traffic that we have here and the Bolt which has a bolt illumination pattern. The reason this is called the “Traffic” is because the three block illumination pattern is inspired by traffic lights which have a red / yellow / green pattern. ... Since their 2012 introduction, the Knog Blinder Road lights have been a popular light among road cyclists. The Blinder Road lights are known for their compact lightweight designs and have been offered in various configurations over the years. In this review, we’ll be looking at the latest Blinder Road 400 which benefits from numerous improvements in design and LED technology. The headlight retails for $ and offers 400 lumen output from dual CREE LEDs. Each LED has a specific beam shape with the left-hand-side LED having a narrow 12 degree beam while the other LED offers a wide 32 degree beam. As with the previous versions of the light, the Blinder Road 400 has a clever integrated flip-out USB-A connector for cable-less charging. One of the perks of Knog products are their stylish yet functional designs which is clear to see with the Blinder Road 400. The light has a wide and thin profile with rounded corners that places the LEDs side-by-side in a metal housing. Metal fins wrap around the housing to help with heat dissipation and break up the otherwise smooth housing. The flat lens housing has a translucent surround and frames the dimpled lens reflectors. Despite the impressive IP67 rating, which allows the Blinder Road 400 to be submerged under certain conditions, there are four visible bolts on the lens face attaching it to the housing. The rear of the light has a rubber coating that makes it easy to handle the light but seems to quickly attract dust. The Blinder Road features Knog’s unique fastening system that uses a multi-piece strap mount with a durable clip design. One side of the elastic rubber strap is removable to allow for the Blinder Road 400 to be installed on 22-28mm diameter bars as well as a longer strap for 29-35mm bars. The straps attach to the light using flexible attachments which allows the Road 400 to easily be used on non round bars as well. An over-molded poly carbonate clip connects to one side of the strap and slides over the hook on the other side of the strap for a secure and durable mount design. It’s a clever design that can easily be installed or removed from handlebars but requires about 2” of open handlebar space. We’d recommend considering the $ Blinder adapter which is a simple cylinder connected to a GoPro adapter which allows you to mount the Blinder light onto out-front mounts. ... Knog’s Frog bike lights are perhaps one of their most iconic designs and was one of the first silicone bike lights to enter the market back in 2006. In this review, we’ll be looking at the latest iteration of the Frog light which has been released as part of Knog’s 20th anniversary. The main new feature of the Frog is the brighter and more modern COB LED setup. Retail price for the Frog lights remains an affordable $ and they are offered as a 40 lumen headlight or a 20 lumen taillight. The updated COB LED lens allows for a number of creative and eye catching light output modes which includes sweeping and sparkling modes. With this latest version, the Frog lights have USB-C charging ports and runtimes up to 60 hr for the headlight and 80 hr for taillight. What makes the Knog Frog lights so unique and popular is the silicone design. Rather than requiring separate mounts or tools, the Frog lights have a flexible silicone strap built into the front of the light that slides over a hook on the other side. It’s a highly versatile design that can work on bikes, scooters, backpacks or nearly anything that you can wrap it around. The headlight and taillight variations are identical, which means you can mount the taillight sideways on your seatpost, seatstays or even saddlebag. For the headlight we preferred to mount it on the fork as a secondary light but you can also place it on handlebars. The only downside to this design is that it’s a uni-directional mount, unlike the Topeak Headlux which offers a dual sided design. That means you cannot mount the Frog lights on an out-front mount like the Topeak UTF unless you have some sort of cylindrical attachment. True to its namesake, the Knog Frog lights have a compact frog like design with a protruding forward facing lens and narrow grippy silicone legs. Like a frog, the Knog Frog lights have a non-slip finish that can easily be mounted in nearly any orientation or surface. The exterior of the light has a silicone finish except for the transparent hook on the rear for the strap. Knog offers the Frog lights in a variety of colors from standard black and gray to more unusual pastel colors like turquoise, red, green and blue that can match nearly any bike. With the latest version, Knog has updated the lens to a modern COB (circuit on board) design with multiple individual LEDs laid out in a two row horizontal configuration. Branding is limited to Knog de-bossed into the top of the body of the light. ... There are many factors that can help you dominate the darkness and keep you night riding into the depths of winter. The most obvious thing to look for is how bright the light is. But, as you’d expect, more lumens often means more money. From our experience, 1500 lumens is the lowest output at which you will still feel comfortable riding a blue graded trail centre style run. Arguably more important than brightness, is light projection. Spot lights focus the beam onto a particular area at the expense of being able to see across a wider spread. Spot lights are best suited to being mounted on a helmet because the light shines directly where you’re looking rather than casting its power more widely. As the name suggests a floodlight illuminates a large area, helping you pick lines or see obstacles and the wider beam helps you see around corners and further down the trail.
