I know you're wondering what's gotten into me lately. Am I crazy? A little. But I believe in what I'm sharing with you. I touched on this topic in my previous video, and a member of our very own Fresh Squad (Kenneth Royster) asked if I could expound on it. Here's the topic: there are certain fragrances that come from brands that we commonly refer to as "niche" fragrance brands, and many of their offerings simply do what a lot of designer/mainstream fragrances for two or three times the price. Therefore, I don't believe these are niche fragrances. They are simply luxury fragrances. If your number one reason for wearing fragrances is to get compliments, then you don't necessarily need to spend that kind of money--just go for mainstream designer fragrances. However, if you wear these fragrances primarily because you love the way they smell, more power to you. If you're interested in true niche fragrances, then I believe I have 10 wonderful brands you should consider, and you can find just about find all of their fragrances for the same prices you would find these very hyped luxury fragrances. Today’s video is a follow-up to a video I did about a month ago, and by popular demand, we’re back. I’ve got 10 of what I call my “holy grail” fragrances that I’m recommending to a beginner. Across YouTube, these types of videos across often include your typical options: Blue de Chanel, Dior Sauvage, Nautica Voyage…maybe even Parfums de Marly Layton. All good fragrances, but… …I have decided to skip all of them. While I see the value in taking the slow road through Mainstreamville, I don’t think the journey has to be done only one way by everyone. Some of my choices will be easily digestible by almost anyone, while others will need some growing into. This is why I encourage decants when possible. To offer guidance, I’ve assigned each fragrance to a specific life occasion/scenario. I hope this gives pragmatic direction, rather than the widespread theoretical sentiment, “this smells good so you should buy it”. It goes without saying that our sense of smell is immeasurably powerful, and the human mind is a marvel of endless wonders. Put these together, and we've got a LOT to talk about. But we'll keep it brief for this video. I wanted to highlight how one could choose their fragrance based on the way they perceive the world and how they live their life. These observations are generalities, and they are purely subjective. But I hope you find a bit of yourself somewhere in this video, and at the very least, enjoy it. One of the reasons I got into fragrance reviewing was because I simply wanted to share what I love--the fragrance journey is a rich and colorful one, and along the way we stumble across scents that truly alter our perspective and experience forever. I didn't want to make this I'm glad I did. In my experience over the past couple years, seasonal fragrance videos have been dying. You guys have shown me that by your decreased engagement in them as well as your opinions on them in the comment I ain't even mad at you.
