Test Antenna Lumenier AXII Long Range with TrueRC X-Air terbang diAntara 4 tower | part 2
In this video I test the following antennas:
- Team blacksheep triumph pro SMA long range 1.6 db :
- Realacc Pagoda antenna 5 db :
- Truerc singularity long SMA 2.2 db :
- iFlight Albatross 150mm RP-SMA 3 db :
- Geprc Momoda long version 195mm mmcx 2.5 db :
All antennas were connected to a DJI FPV Air unit running at 25mw in 50mbit / high quality mode. On the goggles (see below) I used my high gain, low angle beam, directional antennas (2x prodrome helical 12t, 1x ZRC flat panel patch, 1x truerc sniper). All antennas (both on the Air Unit and goggles) were placed so that they were exactly in the same horizontal plane, thus being in the best possible receiving situation, radiation pattern wise.
The momoda was connected directly to the air unit, all the others had a mmcx to sma cable adapter in between. The Albatross had a further rp-sma to sma straight adapter.
For testing, I put my cheap ground station in one angle of my house, standing still, with all antennas pointing to the opposite angle of the house (lots of rooms and concrete in between) where I put the drone with the antennas to be tested.
For each test, I simply changed the antennas without moving the drone, and record a couple minutes video with the goggles DVR. The bitrate shown in the final Ranking was calculated as the arithmetic mean of all the samples of each recording.
As expected there were very few oscillations, considering that everything was still.
Results
1) Tbs triumph pro – 26.5 mbit
2) TrueRC Singularity – 20.9 mbit
3) iFlight Albatross – 17.8 mbit
4) Geprc Momoda – 16.2 mbit
5) Realacc Pagoda – 13.4 mbit.
Considerations:
- Don’t use the Db gain of an antenna as a performance indicator. The TBS, that clearly placed first, had the lowest db rating of the group, whilst the Pagodas (rated as the highest gain) placed last.
- The Albatross had an added rp-sma to sma adapter that should account for some signal loss, but nothing game changing. Nevertheless, I have ordered a mmcx to rp-sma adapter and I will use it in the next tests, in order to make things as fair as possible. The Albatross, sadly, is also the heaviest of the group, though.
- I don’t know how “scientific” this test is, one antenna could be better than another in LOS but worst in a “obstacles” situation like my test scenario, also keeping into account possible waves reflections. But I think that, in the end, those values are very close to “tell the truth” about the “global” antenna performance, and for long range in particular, which is my goal.
- I am making some tests “in the field” with the same antennas tested here, trying to fly in the same path and altitude and see the results, we’ll see if those tests will be in line with the results of this test.
In the next round I will change "side" and test the antennas used in the receiver (dji goggles), th test will include the actual 4 antennas used in this test, plus the Truerc Volcan MK ii 20db (4 sniper in 1 !), VAS pepperbox extreme and VAS Helical 12 turns, it will be fun, stay tuned. About the test:
- The DJI Air unit was mounted on a Mavic Air 2 drone which I set to in order to avoid video interference
- I used the same unit of DJI V1 Goggles in each test.
- The goggles were placed in the exact position.
- I tried to follow the same flight path as much as I could but there are some sync issues between the two videos shown due to winds and human errors.
- On the DJI Air Unit I used the stock antennas.
- Air unit was set on all tests to 25mw, 50Mbps, High Quality

Lumenier AXII Antenna Testing and Comparison (New Micro AXII)
On this test, I have set the output power of the DJI goggle V1 to 25mw.
RX antenna on the Flywoo BabyQuad is stock LHCP antenna.
Side by side comparison of the X-Polarized configuration and the conventional configuration.
Quad remains at 2-3meter off the ground and 3 blocks of 10mx6mx6m concrete are blocking the line of sight from the goggle.
As you also noticed that the flight time of the LHCP/LHCP configuration is more than the LHCP/RHCP configuration as during my first round, the quad completely lost the video on the turn where the signal is so weak so I have to punch up to regain the signal, then redo the same path again.
Take note that only the V1 has the "receiving only" port on the lower right (Antenna 3) where I installed the X2-Air RHCP. And the Antennas 1,2 and 4 are the diversity antenna ports switching only 2 antennas and make it active depending on which has the highest gain. This is part 2 of my FPV antenna test (Part 1 of this video: ), this time focused on the receiving antennas , here’s the list :
1. TrueRC X-Air 5.8 MK II LHCP RP-SMA, 10 dBi, beam width 120/68° :
2. ZRC 5.8 flat panel LHCP RP-SMA, 14 dBi gain , unified beam width 40° :
3. 12 turn Helical, LHCP, RP-SMA,14 dBi, unified beam width 30° :
4. TrueRC Sniper II, LHCP, SMA, 13.5 dBi, beam width 80/45° :
This test scenario is similar to the one in Round 1 : The drone (with the TBS Triumh Pro Long range antennas, who won the first round of tests) in one corner of the house (set at 25 Mw, 50 mbit and High quality), and my fixed ground station on the opposite corner, through a lot of rooms and concrete.
The ground station is connected to the googles with four 2-meters long SMA cable extensions. There is a lot of signal loss (I will make soon a specific video on this subject, and thanks to RCShim ( ) for pointing out this aspect), but for the sake of this test we are only interested in the differences between the bitrates of the antennas tested, and not in the bitrate absolute values.
The first test was with the 4 stock antennas mounted, and after that I pulled away one stock antenna, and made 4 other tests, every time mounting the antenna to be tested and then replacing it with the next one. For each antenna, I made 2 DVR recordings of roughly 60 seconds each, changing where the antenna was connected to the goggles (bottom left and upper left connectors), to see if I found any difference between those two. For “left” connectors I mean the ones on the side where the Channel indicator leds are.
For each test I took the arithmetic mean of the bitrate samples of the recordings, which were long enough to take into account the inevitable bitrate oscillations. Here are the raw results :
• All stock antennas : 24.2 mbps
• X-Air in bottom left connector : 27.0 mbps
• X-Air in top left connector : 24.4 mbps
• 12 turn Helical in bottom left connector : 27.0 mbps
• 12 turn Helical in top left connector : 27.5 mbps
• ZRC flat panel high gain in bottom left connector : 30.9 mbps
• ZRC flat panel high gain in top left connector 29.8 mbps
• Sniper II in bottom left connector : 32.4 mbps
• Sniper II in top left connector : 34.8 mbps
From this test I don’t get a conclusive result on the differences between the top left and bottom left connector of the goggles. The top left is supposed to always be active and TX/RX, while the bottom left is always active and RX only. I guess that it needs a more accurate test to see if there are actual differences between them, for the moment I remain with the strategy to put my best antenna in the bottom left, and my second best in the top left, which seems to be the general consensus in the community. Keep in mind that this applies to the V1 DJI Goggles,
Performance wise, in order to establish the ranking, I took the mean between the two tests of each antenna, and this is the final list :
1. TrueRc Sniper II : 33.6 mbps
2. ZRC flat panel : 30.3 mbps
3. 12 turn helical : 27.2 mbps
4. TrueRc X-Air : 25.7 bps
5. Stock antenna : 24.2 mbps
Final considerations :
The X-Air is a “mid range” antenna, meaning that it has a little less gain than the others, but has a wider beam angle. As such, it is more indicated in situations like mountains / clouds surfing/climbing/diving, where you usually perform also a decent amount of side and vertical movements with the drone, so you need an antenna that has the necessary angle coverage and doesn’t force you to stay continuously pointed to where the drone is.
I expected more from the 12 turn Helical, but maybe there were other aspets that I didn’t factor in, that caused it to have a lower-then-expected performance. I will make another test when I receive some other antennas that I recently bought, one of whom is another Helical, and I will give it another chance at least in comparison with another antenna of its kind.
Also, I’m planning a test session “in the field”, with fixed positions of the drone and goggles like this one, in line of sight without obstacles (about 1 Km), to see if the results are consistent.
