The SALOMON XA FORCES MID is a lightweight, all conditions tactical boot for moving fast in the most critical situations. IS IT THE BEST HIKING & TACTICAL BOOT AROUND? Based on Salomon's iconic XA PRO 3D, the upgraded XA FORCES MID is a Special Forces oriented boot that is more durable in every way, and also has a beefier outsole than the traditional XA PRO 3D. the XA forces have a WEIGHT of around 490g or 17.3 oz The OUTSOLE is a Contagrip MD with a Dual density midsole that has what Salomon calls "EnergyCell" technology. This provides high performance Lightweight cushioning, stability and motion control which also has built in shock absorption as a bonus. Contagrip is a combination of rubber compounds and aggresive lug geometry that optimizes grip in rugged terrain. Maximum traction rubber combines with high-durability rubber added in zones that receive the most abrasions and wear and tear. These boots have a plastic 3D Advanced Chassis that is Puncture resistant. When you see the term "EN" in the name, that means that the soles are Anti-static, anti-slip, and have anti-puncture capabilities. EN stands for European Norm and this just means that the boot meets strict European safety standards. The UPPER MATERIAL features an Anti-debris Mesh with a Medial protective abrasion pad on the instep, Non-reflective materials which won't give away your position, a Protective mudguard, and PU coated leather. The UPPER CONSTRUCTION features a Gusseted tongue to help keep dirt out of the boot, a Lace pocket, and a Protective toecap with the SensiFit system. This sensitfit system connects the midsole of the boot to the quicklace kevlar system that keeps you from banging the front of your toes against the front of the boot. I can attest that this sensitfit system does minimize blisters, rubbing and bruising on your foot over periods of long wear. This Boot's LACING SYSTEM is kevlar Quicklace which provides a standard anatomical fit for less foot slipage in the boot. The built-in lace garage keeps everything tucked in and out of the way during operations. For instance, when climbing ropes or scaling structures of different kinds, these boots won't allow your foot to get caught on rogue objects and they will not cause abrasions. The LINING MATERIAL is Mesh with a Molded OrthoLite sockliner is a fairly basic insole, but still comfortable to stand in for long periods of time. Salomon is based in the French Alps & they have been designing outdoor products for over 75 years. They do have both a Gore-Tex version which is more suitable for wet & colder environments, and a regular non-goretex option is available as well. This is the go-to boot when you need to be light, quick and fast on your feet. These Salomons are my favorite boots for both hiking & mountaineering where I live in Colorado. The terrain is rocky and rugged, which demands a certain type of sole and boot. These XA forces are comfortable to wear for hours on end, yet breathable enough to allow your foot to vent extra heat in extreme temperatures. I've had these two pairs in coyote brown and ranger green for almost 4 years now, and they are still going strong without any major damage to the boots and soles. These are simple, no-nonsense shoes that are rooted in backcountry mountaineering design, yet good for a variety of real-life urban applications weather on special operations, law enforcement and swat team applications. There are other boots out there that you might prefer from other manufacturers and outdoor companies. However, these Salomons are my top choice and my favorite lifestyle boot for the mountains. They are a rigid, well-rounded boot that I know will not let me down whether I am working around the offgrid property, hiking miles in the backcountry, or hunting. Heavy duty use is certainly not a deterrent for these boots! Coming in at just over a pound, these boots are geared for support in fast paced missions. Anti-debris mesh upper and High Abrasion Resistant Textile cut down on weight while providing breathability and protection. the XA’s outer skeleton consists of Rubber Toe Cap and Mudgard. The Forces 8’’ GTX EN is an adapted version of the XA Forces line. Special forces will appreciate the uncompromising dynamics and versatility of this lightweight, athletic high tactical boot. It combines the ease of walking and comfort of a running shoe with the support and protection of a tactical boot. The tactical boot officially meets the test standards of ISO 20347:2012 and the associated standards for anti-puncture, anti-static properties and for slip resistance. The 8 inch ( cm) shaft is subjected to additional forces, such as movements of the wearer’s body or external influences. Cushioning, additional protection in the ankle area and a soft collar lining material have been incorporated to ensure comfortable wear. The entire upper consists of a non-reflective material mix of anti-debris mesh, full grain leather and single-layer mesh. The underlying GORE-TEX® membrane makes the boot an ideal companion in all kinds of weather. The 3D rubber toe cap protects the foot from shocks and ensures high comfort in pathless terrain. The SensiFitTM system cradles the foot from the midsole to the classic lacing system with closed hooks to create a secure, precise and almost customized fit. The inside of the boot is reinforced with an additional material to support climbing and fast rappelling. The performance and stability of the sole construction play a crucial role in the field. In combination, the Contagrip MA outsole, 3D Advanced Chassis, anti-puncture Enigma Zero HT2 insert and anti-static technology provide an optimum response to all requirements. An OrthoLite inlay sole ensures a comfortable fit and additional damping in the boot, while perforations in the sole support a pleasant foot climate. The XA FORCES 8” GTX EN is a lightweight, athletic and modern boot that will make operations in the harshest environments feel like a walk in the park.

My experience of these boots is the soles are solid and have lasted well. Unfortunately the glue used to stick them together is shockingly bad and they are falling apart. Pity as they are the most comfortable boots I’ve owned.
